Hello.
AW is cool, not for it's technology, but it's people. Cybertown/Colony City are cool, too, but I prefer AW. When the AmigaNG is released I would love to see AW ported to it. The Amiga community would work great in enhancing the best 3D community on the Net. One of the features that I'd like to see in big worlds, like AW, is channels. These channels would be available all over the world, and maybe the universe, and work something like IRC channels. Channels would have their own tab. This would be very useful, especially in events like VRML2000. People stay in GZ to stay in the chat area, but with this they can go all over the world and still chat with multiple people. In theory, you could stand at the AW GZ and listen > to the chat from the Tikki Bar in OW. Not like a radio station, but like a CB radio. I think this will help the AW community by helping communication between people exploring. Whisper is good, between two people. Look at how IRC totally dwarfs AW. When I get into AW I would like to join a channel and talk with everybody else in AW that are on that channel. The AW browser is too big for me to run it and my IRC program, XiRCOM. Then again would it be possible to integrate IRC into AW the way Explorer is? Channels inside worlds.Feb 25, 1999, 8:09pm

I can imagine it would be cool to have multi-layer places in the same 3D "space". The people that you want to see your VR home would get it. Everybody else would see an alternate location in the same place, like an empty lot. Or if somebody teleports in rather then using the front door they can have an entirely different location, but still in the same space. There is one IRC that includes real audio, a Web page, and more. There was so much downloading at one time that it was not usable at all with a 14.4 modem.:( I have a 3D chatroom at www.colonycity.com/home/cyborjim, but I still prefer AW. No, too big as in running any other program, besides small programs like
notepad, dramatically slow down AW. Thanks anyway. [View Quote] > By too big, I assume you mean screen real estate... > if so...I would suggest that you need a vPC - Virtual Personal Computer Objects for America.Feb 25, 1999, 3:30pm
I have a place in America, near 100n 0e:). I'm having fun since the Q
sets have over 100 surfaces to choose from. However, there are some objects that I think we need, but some I listed just for fun. Stairs: Several planks that go up would be good. The regular stairs have sometimes useless sides, and the spiral stairs don't go with any other America object. Rails: Yes, rails to go with the stairs. With matching rails for flat areas (like balconies), too. Fun textures: Q objects with colors like the radar tower or the spiral staircase. Fun colors, for fun people. And to make them even more fun, they can change from week to week. :) Whole house shells: You can have prefabricated two or three story homes and/or side by side apartments. There could be a few dozen of these set up in an out of the way area, and refer to it as the suburbs. :) The '99 VW Minibus: This would be cool as an object or an avatar. Why don't we have one yet?!? (This is even more important then getting "bike" AV with a girl rider.) Inside the Jumbo Jet or Statue of Liberty: I tried the jumbo jet, but it doesn't look very good. :( Avatars as objects: So we can populate our places and imagine that people are there. :) A hole is the ground: So we can put stairs down to the basement. :) We can have bus bots driving around between populated areas. If you've see how people chase the blimp at AW GZ then you can imagine people chasing a blimp bot all over Alpha World. And you should be able to ad this roving bot to your contact list, so you can teleport to it. That's all I can think of right now. *JimVideo *AmigaNG pick up objectsFeb 25, 1999, 8:15pm

It would make those shops a lot more fun than just > handing over fake money and getting nothing except a picture. Or you can run around in the AWSuperMarketWorld, with your shopping cart equipped AV, and pick out canned food. The stuff in the shopping cart. :) |
