No, it's a byte value, it's got nothing to do with numbers lol. BTW it's 0-
127 for standard ASCII I believe (certainly not any more than 0-255).

World ratings have existed for ages... Anyone can change them, but parental
blocks are about as effective because the parents probably won't be the
ones to install the game anyway. I believe that there's no need for any
such things as long as the parents raise their children well and actually
inform them about dangers and the bad shit out there, instead of taking the
easy route and blocking it silently (silly thing to do, because then it's
"forbidden" and it becomes more exciting to access it. The story about Adam
& Eve in the bible is a good example).

It's quite true that many disgusting and immoral people use the internet,
but they're overwelmingly outweighed by the "normal" people. At least some
of the disgusting people are getting punished for their illegal activities
now.

Buying clothes is a good idea! Since bots can override your choice of
avatar in 3.4 this would be quite easy to implement too. The bot would just
change your avatar back to whatever you wore before changing if you haven't
bought the right to use that avatar.

I really don't care much about SPAM anymore. Even though my mailserver
checks all incoming mail with two anti-SPAM services (RBL and ORBS) I still
get tons of it every day. I do reject the most annoying SPAM (anything that
matches words like "XXX" gets deleted) and the rest is easy to delete when
I get it. Adding SPAM-harvester fooling tricks to your email address just
makes it harder for some people to send you mail, and often the harvesters
have got clever methods for extracting the real thing. My advice is the
same as Brant's, don't bother with it, just delete it.

The server reindexed all the groups after they deleted stuff. That means it
chucked all the original message ids in the bin and assigned a new one to
all messages that were kept. Very annoying, it would've been nicer to have
it done like before, that didn't make all the headers bounce (downloading
20k headers in community whilst the server doesn't seem able to maintain
the connection with that much traffic isn't very funny).

KAH

Stop reindexing!

Nov 8, 2002, 4:52pm
E N Z O and friends, I appreciate the effort you do to remove offencive
posts very much, but please stop doing things that reindex the articles. It
creates a lot of trouble, like making me lose all data about posts that
I've read/not read/etc, makes me have to redownload everything (this also
uses much bandwidth over at your place), and is pretty annoying. If you
want to delete a post, please do it the way it's always been done which
doesn't cause any reindexing.

I'm not sure if it's possible in 3.2+, with the encrypted executeable. It's
quite simple, you just edit a string in the executeable. It's illegal, but

I happen to know this guy, and I'm pretty sure he isn't going to sell your
info to anyone. He actually bothered to write a privacy statement, and a
ToS. But there are many people who would sell it, especially spammers who
put that little note about unsubscribing by replying with "unsubscribe" in
the subject... Damn US laws making SPAM legal, while giving spammers an
opportunity to map live addresses in the act of rendering it legal.

Got a little update on the matter, from the author of the site himself.
Turns out the email addresses are only stored until account confirmation
has been completed. The motivation is just a fun little experiment, and
trying to form a little community. And protecting yourself with "NOSPAM"
isn't much of a protection, I bet all the SPAM harvesters automatically
parse it out.
