A!!CT World will drop Heartfall Sept.16

Stop being such a weirdo gnome, Insanity! We all know you're only one
person, running on inadequate servers (deducting from all the stupid
excuses you come up with whenever your customers want to do something that
you don't feel like doing), probably not so high bandwidth and giving
people bad service. It's been proved many times in these NGs, and each time
you reply to your disgruntled customers trying to justify and defend your
business you make a fool of yourself and give it an ever worse reputation.
If you haven't got anything interesting to come up with (in case you still
haven't learned, your SPAM is *NOT* interesting), PLEASE do not post.
Thanks in advance.

He's using bugs in the protocol and servers to come in as a tourist, then
he tells the devs at AWI about it and sometimes tells the public about it
after it's been fixed (or if the devs aren't doing anything about it, to
get them to do it before someone with bad intentions exploits it). He is
not dangereous, he doesn't damage stuff, he actually finds out how one can
damage stuff and warns about it so it can be prevented. He's found many
serious exploits in AW that have now been fixed, if script kiddies had
found it AW would've been much more plagued with evil cracks now. You
should be happy someone is out there trying to protect AW, without even
getting paid for it.

Flat-file: slow
Access MDB: slow
*SQL (MySQL, PostgreSQL, whatever): quick, optimised
other server-driven DB stuff: quick, optimised (generally).

You can access MySQL through Perl I believe, but you'll probably need some
extra stuff for it. In ASP I suppose you'd have to use ODBC to access SQL
servers. I highly recommend using MySQL and PHP, they're a powerfull
combination.

3.39GB is 3639984783 bytes. That would be more than a 32 bit integer could
hold, so I suppose that might be the problem. Overflows in AW create some
pretty interesting unexpected results (try setting terrain to something
like 500). I doubt the disk-space calculating code has been touched for
years, and hey, it's not that many years ago that 3.3GB was huge and nobody
would have such a large cache ;-))

In some cases (notably with negative numbers) it sets it to the inverse
maximum number. I suppose this is because the int is converted to an
unsigned int when it exceeds the max limit.

By supporting OGL and D3D (hardware and software), AW does support the 3D
APIs most people can use. Only people with 3DFx API supporting cards can
use that API, and since 3DFx are long gone (no updates of the API or new
chips for it, etc) 3DFx support would be a waste of time. You should try a
GeForce series card, you can get new ones with much video memory quite
cheaply, and they have good support for D3D and OGL.

Uh... No :-)) You don't need more than one font, and you can't be sure
everyone reading your post even has the different font available. If you
want to post code, use an intelligent newsreader that will let you disable
word-wrap in your post. Also, OE (I don't know if any other newsreaders
compose in HTML, maybe NS does) may use MS-HTML instead of standard HTML,
and it also overuses entities. You can get the same (better really)
readability without HTML, in less space and in a form in which anyone can
see properly. This has been debated over countless times, download a year's
worth of messages in here and search for "don't post HTML".

Well, hey, they are :-)) Just take a look at Windows. It's horribly
unstable, and in reality it's just a shell for DOS (don't tell me that it
isn't the case for XP, it is, they've just become better at hiding it).
Take a look at IE. It's appalingly unstable and very vulnerable to evil
HTML/JS/ActiveX. It supports a bunch of unstandard crap MS made up
themselfes. It doesn't fully support some good things (like PNG). Take a
look at Word. It's unstable, and bloats files. It has a HTML exporter that
exports to MS-HTML and not real HTML, making the code only work in IE. All
MS software is bloatware. They have crazy licenses and try to spy on you.
Do I really need to say more?

You mean "posterior", right?

You listen to what MS say? It is not an advance in technology, it's more
of a regression in technology. NNTP is designed to transfer news messages,
defined by a standard, NOT HTML messages, defined by another standard. If
HTML formatting is essential in the post, upload a HTML page and provide a
link. If MS conformed to the standards there would be no problem. Don't be
such a MS-is-God-newbie, Chris, you're more intelligent than that.

No, I don't say MS sucks because a lot of ("everyone" isn't appropriate,
most people still adore MS) other people say it. I have an opinion of my
own, you know! I gave a few reasons as to why MS sucks in that post, and it
arguments my point of view, so what are you complaining about? I don't say
that you have to agree, but at least respect my opinion as a valid one, as
I respect your opinion that MS doesn't suck as valid. The computer world
would be much less troubled with silly bugs and people who are clueless on
how to actually use their computers without MS.

Ok... How do you figure that? 1 character = 1 byte. That's not 3 numbers.
If you mean the decimal representation of the byte, then you're right, it's
3 ciphers (I know that's the wrong word for what I mean, but who cares?)
per byte. The binary representation of a byte is 8 ciphers long though, not
3. And the actual meaning of it is one character long lol.
