Hi TZ!
I find your concept quite interesting. For me, the biggest draw to it, which I gather would have to happen under your concept, would be the ability to rotate objects in *any* direction. How else could someone build upside down, with some of the current objects? Slanted roof objects, for instance, would need to be turned upside down in order to fit the size of the house., etc. etc. That into and of itself, would present at least some more challenging design configurations. I think however, that the ultimate objective of COF to not provide new objects.. like geez.. what about basic horizontal building beams??... is so that one will purchase a world and make their own, ergo increasing profitability. However, at some point, any business has to realize that not everyone can be a world owner and that customers that are non world owners will need something more challenging. Granted, starting new COF worlds adds to the building challenge, but the universal appeal of some of them, decidely is not there. Look at the counts of people in various worlds. AW still draws the most people. Based on all of the above, I would love to see the ability to rotate any object in all dimensions. Zzzzzzzzzzz [View Quote] Reality is too boringJun 22, 1998, 2:34pm
Hi Marvin..
Would be great to be able to hand another person an object. Imagine giving flowers to the one you love and actually being able to *Give* to them!! Yes, I too agree that need is there for some more reality based things first, some refinements to the software overall and new objects and textures! But some other fun stuff can be thrown in along the way. I still can't understand why basic real world building objects aren't part of the model set... ie.. crossbeams, TBars, I Bars.. all those types of things that are indeed used to make a building real world. hahaha. Amazed that all those unsupported roofs and ceilings have not yet fallen down!! This is virtual *reality* .. stress on the reality. <g> Zzzzzzzz Join Enhancement Needed!Jun 22, 1998, 2:49pm
Actually.. I would much prefer that a telegram request pop up when a person
tries to join. I consider it downright rude for anyone to issue a join request without contacting someone via a telegram first. I will not accept such joins and usually respond via a telegram my thoughts on the subject. You have no idea what the person might be doing. If they are in a meeting, etc. Ergo, I would not be in favor of having everyone that has me on their contact list given the ability to know on site if they could join me or not, especially just cause they feel like joining someone. A telegram pop up would cause the person to at least be polite and ask to join first. [View Quote] Join Enhancement Needed!Jun 23, 1998, 4:46pm
Sorry zero.. but not accepting joins doesn't make one anti-social. Isn't
it a real world common courtesy (read polite) to call someone before you go to visit them? Sending a join without calling first is rude. Man.. lots of cyber relationships would really be ruined!! Sooo.. <eg> Perhaps there should be something by someones name that says.. Yellow - Exceptionally Rude, joins without calling first? hee hee Zzzzzzz [View Quote] Join Enhancement Needed!Jun 25, 1998, 4:24pm
Actually.. it is a great idea for not only joins, but telegrams as well. :))
If I am in a meeting or some such thing <g> like a building frenzy, I hate to be rude and not answer telegrams. But there are times, when it is difficult to answer right away. I am on call all the time with the GK's so there are some I have to answer. Hmmmmm even having a way to personalize an away message would be great. :)) Tho, lol.. I could just imagine some of the away messages that might be written. <G> Zzzzz Select many, enter one animation or one object name change.Jun 28, 1998, 11:33am
With the new ability to select multiple objects, whether using the shift key
or the control key, I would really really really love the ability to edit the file name and/or the animation area at that point. I frequently have created something in a basic texture and then decided that the whole framework of the building might look better in something else. I would love to select a whole area and change the walk001h.rwx to walk028h.rwx. Viola, from walk to grass! Also, there are times when I want to use something other than the basic object textures. Would be great to edit the animation command box to change all the objects I want to *create animate me astrotrf. 1 1 0* at one time instead of having to copy paste the command onto each and every object. Wow... from dead grass to one that now looks like I watered it!! Select many, enter one animation or one object name change.Jun 30, 1998, 1:44am
<g> yep.. had a feeling by your name that you build a lot.
Many times I have done a whole building.. like my phallic (can I say that in here? <eg>) ok.. circular column like guest home. I did the whole thing in one .rwx texture and decided that I really didn't like the final outcome. I ended up going through piece by piece and changing the whole thing. I think there could be many more usages for the multiple select other than the current delete and move functions. Copy would be great as well. Of course, I realize a lot of people wouldn't want anyone else to just copy and move their hard work over to their own land, but the ability to copy one's own work and to move it would be great. I am currently working on twin towers in one location and quad towers in another. I would love the ability to copy one tower and paste my own work right next to it for the twin towers. As I have many ideas for the two areas on which I am working, this would save me quite a bit of time and toil. I could then go on much more quickly to adding the inner workings of both buildings. Zzzzzzzzzz Selection PropertiesJun 30, 1998, 1:49am
TZ..
I do agree with you on this one!! I selected a whole range of wall, started to move it and rotate it. After moving and rotating it, it was only then that I noticed I was now using the center of * all* of the pieces. It would have really thrown off what I was trying to do. Also, with the control select function, I have (granted in haste and amidst a flurry of telly's) selected a whole block and moved it, before I realized that I had done that. I had to select the block again, hoping that I didn't pick up any new pieces and move it back. I would love to see an edit function that says.. *undo last command* which would have put the right pieces back in the right places. :) Zzzzzzz [View Quote] NG for AW ChangesAug 15, 1998, 4:35am
Not sure if this has ever been posted here, but I would love to see an NG or
even a web page strictly for changes made to AW, primarily with textures and objects. Something, anything. Part of this stems from the recent frustration at finding out by going back to some of my original building areas from about a year ago, that anything on which I had used chilli. 1 1 0, the object was no longer visible. The old texture, sans mask, brought about a gold/yellow color on non textured objects. I now have pots, awnings, kitchen cabinets, a car, etc. for which the objects are still there, but don't show because chilli. 1 1 0 is now toting a mask and only the red pepper shows. The yellow is gone. Quite frustrating. Have looked high and low to see if this change has been listed anywhere, but can't seem to find a posting. Ergo, a suggestion to have a specific location where in any and all changes, especially those affecting standard AW building could be listed. <sigh> Got lots of work ahead trying to figure out where I specifically used that texture and my time could be better spent elsewhere. -- ****Peace Love, Chocolate and Donuts ***** |
