You make lots of sense, SW... Well said... :o)

(I was going to say "common sense" but sense hasn't been all that common in
the ngs lately... *G*)

As yet undocumented seq/avatar information

Jun 30, 2002, 7:43pm
From HamFon::: One of the things that I did in the new animation code
was write some stuff to allow you to translate limbs (as compared to
previouly allowing rotation only) - so now you can REALLY have a basketball
player with moving basketball, etc. I made a demo animation (called
"Explode") on the Tourist in HamGlaze, if you want to see it. Also, that
animation is an example of the Text (NotePad editable) Seq file - so you
don't need lifeforms any more. You're welcome to check it out of
interested. I'm putting together a little download that gives an
example.

When the damn news server tells you it couldn't post your message because of
an error then WHY in hell does it save the message to post after you finally
figure out WHAT the damn error is????

*grumble, cuss, cuss, grumble some more*

Sorry about all the posts.. :o(

Jun 30, 2002, 8:08pm
HamFon: Oh, btw - not sure how well this is documented - but avatars.dat
supports Specials avatar descriptions - so you world owners don't need to be
limited to a single gesture, and you can name the geometry anything you
like.

More from HamFon.... :o)

Jun 30, 2002, 10:39pm
This is moreless of a repeat of my "multiple" (cringe) posting above but
this one has the addition of an URL you can go to for an example file using
this Explode code that is new to 3.3... :o)

Telegram from HamFon, sent 20 minutes ago:
I added text-editable SEQ files, and also the ability to "explode" avatars
(i.e., limb or object separation, for example an avatar that can shoot a
basketball where you specify the translation path). This is built in to AW
3.3. You can see an example in HamGlaze world, Tourist avatar, Explode
gesture. Download a copy of this easily editable file from www.hamfon.com.

AWLD independent director vote results?

Jul 13, 2002, 2:43am
First, let me comment on the obvious:::

Welcome back to the newsgroup, Eep!!! Someone must like you.. :o)

Second, it's my opinion that the said document is some legal mumbo-jumbo to
secure or "reposition" the outstanding shares of stock, among other things,
and possibly to distance "the company" from the Juno.com lawsuit so "the
company" can move forward more easily...

Rick and JP haven't gone anywhere... They are still right there at the helm
so all your nay-sayers and doom & gloom advocates can put away your party
hats till the next rumor comes along... :o)

I don't work for the company and I'm certainly not a lawyer but it's my
opinion that there isn't much in that document that seems threatening to
life as we know it in Activeworlds.. :o)

Ok.. Back to building or gossiping, everyone!!

*hugs for those that want them*

Linn, you have to have half-way decent pucker-up abilities to get into some
of the jobs in some of the groups around AW, depending on who is holding the
reins at the time... No different than in the real world, huh??? ((I'd
give you puker-up lessons but that's something I never learned how to do
properly... hehehe))

You're doing terriffic in AW though... Your hard work and generosity shows
that you truly care about the community -- and it does pay off... Maybe not
in getting a "prestige" job in a community group but in the personal
satisfaction that you did your part to help maintain this GREAT community,
to keep it fun and to keep it growing!!! *Smile*

*hugs*
Daphne

PS... The 2nd paragraph of this post applies to many, many of our AW
users... Generous and hard working!!! Great assets to the community...
If you feel that you too have earned this accolade, then by all means, it's
meant for you too and thank you for being a part of it all... :o) *hugs*

cy nominations out

Sep 1, 2002, 9:16pm
**spoof**

By all means, use the original submitted nominations as the voting list!!!

EVERYONE, go over the Nominations page then send your votes to Baron
VonShrike if you can figure out just what the hundreds of nominations are
for, where they are actually located so you can view every one of them and
if they actually do belong under the catagory they were nominated under...

Actually we expect Baron VonShrike to make every effort to decifer all the
nominations, find their actual locations and verify the reason for their
being nominated. Then he will update the nominations list with that info;
or at least update his nominations list with that info and use it for
verification purposes as he does the job of handling nominations...

We expect Baron VonShrike to make sure all nominations he accepts votes for
ARE actually in the catagory they belong in because he can't really expect
or trust the voters to have done the checking...

Then Baron VonShrike is to go though all the votes that have passed that
criteria to be sure that the person that voted for each nomination has
indeed been there to see it.. Baron VonShrike is not allowed to take their
word for it even though trust was implied by allowing them to vote.. He must
be sure they can prove they went to each place they voted for.. (A jpg sent
to Baron VonShrike of each voter at each site they voted for would propably
be proof enough but they should try not to make them real big in size
because, if all do their job, Baron VonShrike will probably be getting
thousands of jpgs as proof.)

Once all votes have passed the requirements, Baron VonShrike will then tally
all the votes for each nomination under each catagory then announce who the
winner of each catagory is.

Make sure you go to each site though and provide proof that you did view it
because even if we HAD voted for you to BE the ones to do that job, that
doesn't mean we will trust you to have done it...

Enjoy the hours and days of world hopping and location hopping that await
you!!!

**end of spoof**

I did get a very good suggestion from Goober King just a while ago and will
be putting it to the Cy Committee... The suggestion is that the persons on
the Selection Committee send a telegram to the creator of each nominated
site they visit, when they visit, and let them know they were/are there...

Viewing the sites was not meant to be a social call and having to send out
telegrams will add time to the already time-consuming job, but if it will
keep ppl from accusing the Selection Committee of not doing their job, then
it would be time well-spent...

To the Cy Committee: A letter from an "old-timer"

Sep 2, 2002, 9:17pm
I found this letter in my mailbox early this morning but I feel that, by
it's content, it was meant for the Cy Committee, not just for me, so I'm
going to post it here, leaving off the sender's name because they wish to be
anonymous:::
-----------------------

One thing I've learned over my years building in Alpha (and wading through
the NGs) is that there will always be the very few who find problems with
anything one does. If things remain as they were then they whine. If there's
a change,
then they whine.

I just wanted you to know that the Cy Committee has the support of the vast
majority of Citizens (albeit the silent majority - as in my case, which is
why
this post is personal and not posted to the NG...) and (personally) I think
the
'conspiracy' is just the very few's attempt at 15 mins of fame.

IF I was to give any advice it would be to continue doing what you believe
is
best for the Awards. If you wish to change something, do it. If not then
ignore those who think you should. It's strange that those who make the
most
noise are usually the last ones to actually get in there and help with
anything
constructive. They can always find something that could be done better but
ask them to help out and they're nowhere to be seen.

The Cy Committee has the support of the Community. I have no doubt you (and
the rest of the team) have the very best interests of Alpha at heart. Do
what needs to be done and we'll be there for you. Ignore the whiners. I
know I've been doing so for years now. :^)

I've no doubt that this year will be every bit as good (and better - of
course.
:^) ) than in the past. Looking forward to the Event...
-------------------
(NOTE::: I've taken the liberty of changing a few "style" characteristics
of this old-timer's letter, leaving the content as was given, so that the
many of you that know him hopefully won't recognize the letter by his
"style" and "unmask" him... :o) )
-----------------
PS... Flame me for posting this here if you want but I don't care... It's
my opinion that "here" is the right place for this post, at this time...
The Subject line says it's a letter so if you read it then only blame
yourself if you feel you've wasted your time and bandwidth... :o)

To the Cy Committee: A letter from an "old-timer"

Gee, you are a fast reader but you are wrong as to your guesses of the
author.. *S*

To the Cy Committee: A letter from an "old-timer"

Sep 2, 2002, 9:33pm
LOL.. If you think I'm going to respond "correct or incorrect" to every
guess as to who the author is then you have it wrong... The content is the
message... Why "dwell" on the mystery author's identity??? :o)

It's time for dinner here... Going to go eat some worms or something!!!
:o)

Daphne

Thank You

Sep 4, 2002, 3:50am
The "experiment", as YOU call it, wasn't unsuccessful, just the support
behind it was a failure.. It was the remaining Cy core that let the ball
drop by not standing behind the policy that existed at the time the
Selection Committee was called to start the work asked of them... It was
the remaining core that didn't have what it takes to face down the
nay-sayers that pipe up no matter what someone else does... The strong
leader was gone and with her went the backbone of the group... :o(

The Selection Committee and the reasons it was called into being were
valid... The Cy Awards Committee core is what failed the Selection
Committee and the Community!!!

A few nice sounding words won't change facts or the feeling of betrayal that
some of us have... The word "trust" doesn't fit well in the mouth of the Cy
core right now so you might want to refrain from using it...

Also, please don't start coming up with "facts" about there not being enough
votes sent in by the Selection Committee... If that were the case then
Mountain Myst, the person that was on their receiving end and posted the top
choices, should have said so and NOT put up any top 5 nominations until
there were enough Selection Committee votes in... It's too late to claim
that the Selection Committee didn't do their job...

Now, I hope you enjoy your popularity contest... This is the last the Cy
core will hear from me about this subject...

A little piece of AW History...

Seren; sweetie, honey, sexy lady!!! :o)

You will be missed SO MUCH!!! You have been an abiding presence at AW's GZ
for so long that they should have erected a throne for you there!!! I
do remember you claiming a yacht that ended up there at one time though!!!
:o)

So many fun times we've had and so many enlightening conversations... Thank
you for being a friend whenever I've needed one...

You're one of the finest!!!

Re: Object path protection

Sep 10, 2002, 5:10pm
Eep, you are proving to be the 2nd grader here by refusing to accept the
truth and not understanding what has been said to you...

Sleepy E didn't post problems with the current version... AW Inc. is NOT
about to give details about security hole or tell how they fixed it... It
would be very "absent-minded" of them to do so!!! It was very good of
Sleepy E to let AW Inc. know about the hole and they moved quickly to block
it... THAT is all YOU or anyone ever has to know!!!

Pass through, Eep... No goodies for you today...

Daphne

Cys seem to be moving forward again...

Sep 18, 2002, 7:44pm
On again off again, then back on then off... Well, guess what??? They seem
to be back on again - at least the oh-so organized cy core is working on the
voting site and I was told they have reorganized!!!

So, community, are you enjoying the rollercoaster ride thus far??? :o) Get
ready to start marking your ballots ---- again!!! :o)

/whois Mr. Kwok Li

Sep 21, 2002, 6:00pm
Unless I missed something along the way as to why it should be anyone's
concern (pertaining to ActiveWorlds) as to who Mr. Kwok Li is, please read
the following:

July 26th, 2002

[3:00 PM CDT] Aladdin Systems Scraps One Merger Plan, Proceeds With Another

In May of this year, Aladdin Systems announced a proposed merger with
makers of virtual chat worlds, Activeworlds, Inc. At the time, there was
wailing and a gnashing of teeth from the Mac community, including TMO,
concerning the Windows-only nature of Activeworlds, and what that might mean
to Aladdin's excellent Mac products. Though privately told by Aladdin
shortly after we mentioned the announcement that such fears were unfounded,
any such lingering fears concerning Activeworlds can be put to rest. The two
companies have scrapped plans for their merger. From a short press release:

Aladdin Systems, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Aladdin Systems
Holdings, Inc., today announced it is terminating its letter of intent to
merge with Activeworlds, inc.. The companies had on May 6, 2002, announced
the execution of the non-binding letter of intent. Both companies reached a
mutual decision to terminate the letter of intent.

Aladdin also announced it is continuing its merger discussions with Erevu,
Inc., as announced June 27, 2002.

Aladdin announced it would be acquiring Erevu, Inc., a company founded in
2001 to develop help-desk solutions. Kwok Li, the chairman of Erevu's board,
is set to become Aladdin's chairman under terms of the as-yet-unclosed deal.
From the press release announcing this acquisition:

Erevu, based in Silver Spring, Md, revolutionizes today's labor/cost-centric
IT help-desk service model through automation of the portable computing
environment. Erevu is dedicated to create a best-in-class enabler for
corporate IT departments by creating a virtual partnership with end users
and their customers to improve efficiency and implementation.

You can find more information on Erevu at the company's site. You can find
more information on Aladdin Systems at its Web site.

/whois Mr. Kwok Li

Sep 23, 2002, 1:04pm
Yes, you are very correct, Goober King... AW Corp. is NOT AW Inc. headed by
Rick Noll and JP McCormick; the company that owns the software known as
ActiveWorlds... It is AW Corp. that is thinking of dealing with Wavix
Incorporated and Mr. Kwok Li, therefore Mr. Li is not likely to have any
interest in this 3D VR universe we call "ours"..... :o)

Shame on the Cy Core/Committee...

Oct 27, 2002, 2:58am
I understand some R rated worlds won Cy Awards... I guess now AW is
expected to show them off to everyone as the best??? I'll go to AWTeen and
see how many there want to see what the "Community" says is the best to be
had in some categories...

Now that these Adult worlds are "showcased" by being given a Cy Award, I
will begin adding a warning to anyone I speak to about ActiveWorlds
suggesting that they bar their children from accessing AW if they do
download it; and I do speak to quite a few ppl about trying out
ActiveWorlds...

I am VERY VERY ashamed of the Cy Core/Committee for the way they have
mishandled, bent and mutilated the rules and policies during this round of
the awards... I am even more disgusted than I was before they tried to
blame their many shortcomings on other ppl and other groups --- not to
mention personal insults directed at me by the Cy Core... I've heard
from others that they too were personally insulted by the Cy Core when they
dared to disagree with the Cy Core...

This is just too, too much... If they can't get their act together for the
next round I would suggest to the legitimate AW Community that they boycott
the event.. If things don't change and good rules are not written and
adhered to, it will just be another farce like this one was... They have
jerked the Community around real badly this round... Let's try to insure it
doesn't happen next round, if there is a next round...

Yours in disgust,
Daphne

Tourist on Alpha Prime

Oct 27, 2002, 8:54pm
I agree 100%... Let tourists come back to Alpha!!! It's worth whatever
hassle a few might cause because most of them bring good things to this
community...

Re: Need Your Input Please:)

Nov 5, 2002, 8:37pm
In for a penny, in for a pound??? I see a trap...

From my ngs post of Oct 30, 2002
Re: Cy Awards - My public reply to those who would talk about me behind my
back
<snip>
Why doesn't someone do as you mentioned at one time and do an awards show
that are only for R and X rated worlds??? (I still contend, as I said in
an e-mail to AW Inc. several months ago, that if AW Inc. in any way sponsors
such an awards show, their "Family Oriented" claim will be further
corrupted...)
<snip>

All categories/areas of interest you mentioned EXCEPT the "Adult" worlds
already fall under the umbrella of the CommunitY Awards... I do not
advocate starting any other awards event UNLESS the Cy Awards do keep
allowing worlds that purposefully flaunt AW Inc's content guidelines and
promote inhumane treatment...
