more water controll

Jul 7, 2003, 2:39pm
Right now we can turn water off by cells using the terrain hole.
But we really need a way to control the under water color and gravity in
them cells also.

For instance if you want no water in a cell you make a hole their, but doing
this only makes the water surface disappear and you still have the under
water color and under water gravity.

can there be a few more options in the terrain edit box for this.
Ex.
If you set a hole in it, there will be 3 more features for a hole.
Water [yes, no]
Set gravity [water, land]
Under water color [yes, no]

The under water color will still be fully controlled by the world features,
this terrain feature will just let you tell it weather or not to display it
in that cell or not.

I must have missed that post then cause it's not on my computer anywhere and
I never deleted or cleared any posts during beta.

errors and forced reloading

Jul 9, 2003, 8:58am
Can you make it so we don't have to reload everything when you get errors
and the browser is forced to shut down?
This is really annoying cause 3.4 still has so many bugs creating illegal
operations forcing it to shut down allot.

errors and forced reloading

Jul 9, 2003, 8:25pm
No, it's something buggy still in the AW browser that needs fixed.
it's always one of the browser dll files or the aworld.exe that's getting
these errors.
I think they released 3.4 to early.
I know it was in beta for a long time, but there are games and other
programs that I have seen in beta for much longer to make sure it's was as
bug free as they could possibly make it.

Per world minimum browser option

Jul 15, 2003, 6:10pm
Why would this be needed?
Universe owners control what browser build versions can enter the universe
with a newest setting and a minimum setting.
So if they where created by world owners no mater what you put in, the
universe settings would always override it.

Per world minimum browser option

Jul 17, 2003, 5:16am
much needed? I dont think anyone will like this idea at all.
you say it would be good for game worlds.
If I see, you must downgrade to version 2.2 to enter my world or something
like that you wont get many visitors.
This idea to me is not a good thing nor is it really worth doing.

what's to stop this?
if you make a world set to only allow say 2.2 you must downgrade, but them
if you want to leave and go to another world you will be kicked out cause
your version is not good enough.

This whole idea is not logical.

Per world minimum browser option

Jul 18, 2003, 1:44am
hmm ok putting it that way, it could be a good idea.
But how would you be able to override the universe settings?
Say your world is set to allow all versions of the browser or just 3.3 and
up, but the universe only allows 1 version the newest one?
Four this idea to work they would have to take it out the universe options
and add it to the world server options.

more language for chatting

Jul 17, 2003, 5:09am
The ability to chat in all languages our world has.

Some languages if you try to use them show up in the AW browser as a list of
question marks cause the browser don't know what to do with the information
you gave it.

That is where I 1st saw a perfect reflection, I was like wow that is good
and told AW a year ago about it, not sure if they looked into it or not yet.

There is also another mirror in that game in the federation part of
scavenger level where you dress up like one of them to walk around freely
just to get the info you need and leave.
That mirror is the most realistic one I ever saw, you can walk by it, jump,
run, turn and the reflection of yourself moves like you 100%

Well they should add it and put it optional in the browser settings to show
them or not.
Why should AW be slowed down and kept behind just to keep people that don't
upgrade there computers happy?
All you really need is a 350 MHz CPU and about 128 MB ram and a good video
card like any of the G Force cards.

Here is a picture of that mirror from that star trek game and I don't lag
near or around it at all.

I actually like the environment mapping better though, but as long as AW
makes it look good and real looking I will be happy lol

The Xelagot bot can do this.

Propdump tool request

Jul 26, 2003, 8:46am
Once you scan the world or area and save it to file it's done already it
saved everything about each object you scanned over [position, who built it,
how its rotated, etc., everything]
When you are done scanning save it to file, when ever you wish to reload it
go to project then merge project
The xelagot reads all that it scans and it will be their in when you save
it.

Or they could just allow all known sound formats and let the user pick what
one they wish to use.

feature for next water update

Jul 25, 2003, 8:44pm
Can we have a setting to allow no underwater color or a way to make it
clear?
Some stuff I built underground is now flooded with water and I do not like
that.

Aw_Avatar_Computer_ID

Jul 26, 2003, 11:19pm
That ID eject feature should be removed because you can quickly and easy
change the ID of the computer to bypass the ejection.

Avatars...

Jul 31, 2003, 7:44am
This could be done but it would involve alot of downloading from the users
computers.
Some with firewalls or routers that they don't have accuses to will be
triangles to everyone.
One chat program I know has done this for a long time is Excite chat, you
would have to use their VP places or Talk program as it was last called.
Excite chat is no where near 3D its just chatting and using any web site as
a chat room.
It allows each user to use what ever small picture they wanted jpg or gif
and all saw it when it was used.

This same thing can be done with AW and their 3D avatar also if they wanted
to add it in.
It would involve a user side avatar.dat file, seq's, textures, and avatars
that would be constantly downloaded from the user when ever someone came in
view of them.

Where do you see it's free?
All I see is free patch upgrades for users that already have that version.

Can also try AccuTrans 3D www.micromouse.ca

Old AW versions

Apr 4, 2003, 1:43pm
No one can even use them old AW versions.
If they try to in any universe they will be forced to upgrade never getting
to use the old version.
Even if the uni options say to let that build version in it will still force
upgrade them.
The old versions before 3.0 are not compatible with the newer universe
servers.

Time?

Apr 10, 2003, 12:57pm
The news server time is 1 hour ahead for me also.
The only thing that would cause this is not all countries do DST so if the
news server is in a country that dose not do DST there time will never
change.
Or like some said , the people that run the news server forgot to update
there time for DST.
But this is not the case if the server is in an area that dose not do DST
and its not because it's on the east coast of the USA.
It is set wrong because its Spring ahead 1 hour Fall back 1 hour for the
countries that do it.
Looks like some one set it ahead 1 hour like they should have, then someone
else came in and also set it ahead 1 hour with out asking if it was done yet
or not, this would be the leading cause of why it's 1 hour fast even for
those in the same time zone as the news server like me, the news server time
should be equal to my time and its not.

TS Question

Apr 10, 2003, 4:25am
This is done with the Lathe tool, this is found in the "model" tool group.
Once you select this tool you must pick a face to bend after you pick a face
right click the Lathe button to bring up its properties.
Next set how much of a bend you want and how many segments you want for it.
Next left click the Lathe button and it will add from the face you picked
and create the curve you want.
Note: try not to use to many segments or it will create lag in your world,
use how ever many makes it look good without causing any lag in the world.

There is also a Tutorial build into True Space that shows just how to do
this.

[View Quote]

TS Question

Apr 11, 2003, 4:20am
You can do them all at once by holding the Ctrl key while selecting faces.
Your object ends are one big face it may be better to do it that way rather
then selecting all the sides.

Bug or idiot?

Apr 17, 2003, 8:47pm
You have to increase or lower the numbers for the. Terrain surface ambient
and Terrain surface diffuse until you get the right lighting effect for
terrain you want to have.
These are found under the Ground options.

Sun Screwiness

Apr 20, 2003, 7:47am
Voodoo cards will have the following problems and probably will never be
fixed.
Not sure as to why, because Active Worlds has all the information they will
ever need about Voodoo cards unless they trashed all that information.
The Voodoo card information they used for 3.3 is still the same information
today because 3dfx went out of biznes in 2001
But anyway here are the problems you will have.

These are only if you are in a 3.4 world using the 3.4 browser.

[Water Opacity]
will not work in Direct3D with T&L off
will not work in OpenGL

[Coronas, Sky Light Source Texture, and Targeting Cursor]
makes you see 4 instead of 1 in Direct3D with T&L on
makes you see 4 instead of 1 in OpenGL

[Backdrop]
distorts and covers everything in the 3D window in Direct3D with T&L on

So to wrap it all up the only 100% working video mode is software for voodoo
users because all the other modes have 1 or 2 things messing up that active
worlds can't seem to fix.
