To further illustrate AW's intentions on just who is responsible for minors
in their universe, version 3.4 allows parents to password protect their
children's browser rating, therefore allocating the proper responsibilities
to that child's parents, as it should be.

I couldn't agree more, sweets. My Xelagot (Lini) has been my partner and
companion ever since XelaG and Canopus got together in late 98-early 99 with
the idea to create a "universal" bot program. My world partner, SilverDragon
(also the designer of the default AW world flag image), was one of the
original beta testers for XelaG and she worked to bring me up to speed with
my bot copy. Those were some hilarious times back then. I'm pretty sure that
SD was the 1st to ever write a 3-bot dialog that was triggered by a start
word. They went into a two minute 3 stooges skit (complete with eye gouges
and "Why I oughta..." and "I'll moidalize ya!") that had us literally
rolling on the floor under our desks! She had her bot ride on her avatar's
shoulder as a tiny dragon wherever she went in our world. We got very
attached to our bots and I cannot imagine running my world without mine now.

As far as I know, you cannot control the avatar's up or down viewpoint in a
building command. Maybe that would be a good Wishlist entry as I know I've
wanted that ability for a long time for my rides : )

Oh yeah! That would be an excellent idea! And it wouldn't be the 1st time
they did that either. I still have a CD they made of many of the worlds'
content running back during version 2.0. It helped a lot back in my dialup
blues days..lol. Unfortunately, I no longer have a copy of the version 2.0

Hi,
I just had a similar situation with a cit who came to me stating they
couldn't enter a particular public world. I could only think of these
reasons why a cit couldn't enter an otherwise open world:
-Like what was mentioned before in this thread, browser rating not set as
high as the world's rating.
-The user had been ejected recently and was still under the "time out"
period that the ejector set.
-The user had been permanently banned by a CT using the "Never" option for
the ejection time expiration for their cit#, IP# or PC ID#.
The user I was talking to about their problem (I don't know this person
well) insisted it wasn't the last two reasons so I was stumped for quite
awhile until I heard some scuttlebutt about this person and indeed, they had
been recently ejected from that public world. In fact, this wasn't their 1st
ejection from that world and the ejector decided they needed a more extended
"time out". I assume this person lied to me about not being ejected because
they didn't want to lose face with me (shrugs) but what annoyed me was I
wasted a significant amount of my own time chasing my tail over this problem
when I didn't need to. I'm not suggesting that your friend is lying to you,
I'm just suggesting it is possible they may have been ejected by one of
those mysterious "mass ejections" from certain public worlds that I've seen
posted here in the NGs lately.

I've found this to be true also in certain places that I visit. A partial
answer to that is the fact I noticed multiple linked files outside the
world's OP, such as linked jpgs and sound files and my guess was that the
bottleneck was at the server end of the linked files. Especially when there
are more than three that hang and stop anything else from loading until they
finally come through.

Good point, sgeo. Almost from the time I 1st joined AW, I've been interested
in any other alternatives to 3D communities online and have spent lots of
time visiting many of them. I used to get negative responses from early
loyal AW users when I'd tell them about my travels outside of AW and ideas
of somehow "bridging" the unrelated universes via weblinks and whatnot. I
learned not to talk about it except to known, reasonable and rational
friends. It seems now that the idea's time has entered into a more accepting
environment, based upon the fact that you weren't immediately flamed for
your suggestions (the 2 irrational negative responses you received here I
discounted, of course lol). We may be seeing the beginning of a universal
internet 3D environment that is described in the novel "Snowcrash" that,
btw, AW's original programmer based his ideas on : )

ROTFL, JP! On a related note, some time ago I created a humorous (a least to

two ppl standing side by side and one was saying to the other: "Pssst...ENZO

Hi Jetta,
A good compromise would be upgrade to 3.4, Build 498. There was a TON of
new features and updates in that version. I still gape at what's all listed
as new on this page: http://www.activeworlds.com/help/aw34/aw34.html
Even though the improvements in 3.5 and 3.6 are cool (for the most part), I
never felt they were worth the upgrade cost to uni owners at least. I spend
most of my time in 3.4 unis. When I am in AW and I see what's new in AW 3.6
it still doesn't get me fired up.

I totally agree with all here. I never had so much fun in an AW world as I
did last Saturday night in SW City. I was totally amazed at the fantastic
rides, games and RPGs that were running during their Birthday Fest. The tube
plunges were so mesmerizing, I could have played with them for days. That
shooting gallery in Mango Park really caught my eye too. What a great way to

Interesting issue. I'm not a complete expert at this and maybe it's been
explained already and I just didn't understand but...since the object file
is already inserted into the cache, wouldn't that allow it to be seen...at
least by the user who has it in their cache? Doesn't the registry simply
stop non-registered objects from being downloaded from the OP?

Excellent post, Heretik. Your ideas about online friendships are right on! I
have around 9 or 10, long term and good and trusted online friends (with a
few more canidates) that I have accumulated in the last 7 or 8 years. Let me
just say that in that time span I have met upwards to almost one thousand
different accounts (accounts, not people...lol) and it does take a lot to
truely trust and bond with a person just through chat text and email...but
it can be done! I am here to broadcast that, folks! What it takes is
dedication to the community you choose to be a part of. Look at my
record...maybe 10 trustworthy friends out of probably a thousand
aquaintenances? The bottom line is time. You can't expect to make good and
long lasting relationships online if all you do is show up a few minutes and
return emails. Commitment is what it really takes here, guys. Just like in
Real Life : )
