Well stated, Andras! As a matter of fact, within a week of my finishing
reading the novel "Snowcrash", I then found AW back in early 1998. It really
made me think about how the internet will evolve in the near future. I
really believe that withing the next few years, 3D virtual reality will be
the way most users will surf the net. A game, some say? How boring! Games
are for gamers, virtual reality is for the future!

I couldn't agree more, sweets. My Xelagot (Lini) has been my partner and
companion ever since XelaG and Canopus got together in late 98-early 99 with
the idea to create a "universal" bot program. My world partner, SilverDragon
(also the designer of the default AW world flag image), was one of the
original beta testers for XelaG and she worked to bring me up to speed with
my bot copy. Those were some hilarious times back then. I'm pretty sure that
SD was the 1st to ever write a 3-bot dialog that was triggered by a start
word. They went into a two minute 3 stooges skit (complete with eye gouges
and "Why I oughta..." and "I'll moidalize ya!") that had us literally
rolling on the floor under our desks! She had her bot ride on her avatar's
shoulder as a tiny dragon wherever she went in our world. We got very
attached to our bots and I cannot imagine running my world without mine now.

Hi folks...I'm inquiring about the possibility of getting a Tourbot script
for my Xelagot bot. I have not seen that subject mentioned here before and I
apologise if I missed any earlier posts about it. I'm not proficient at
creating scripts from scratch and was just wondering if there was someone
out there who made them/would make them? Compensation would not be out of
the question, if it makes a difference. I'd like a script that can give info
and further instructions as in teleporting to a requested site, waiting
indefinitely for further instructions after teleporting the visitor in order
for them to download the area and maybe give a short description of each
site. Thanks for any positive feedback I get here (even if the answer is
"No, sorry, no one does that.") : )
Feb 5, 2004, 8:08pm
Hi LNH...the only way I can think of to make that happen is to write an
action script that starts when the bot logs in and program it to do
something like paste a building command string like 'create noise
wavfile.wav' or 'create noise mp3file.mp3' into an object nearby the user
who types the codeword into chat or in a whisper to the bot. Unfortunately,
I have no experience in creating original scripts for bots.

My favorite bot is the Xelagot. As a multiple world owner and universe
CT, the Xelagot has saved my bacon as far as build features more times
than I can count. One of my dear world partners had the good luck of
being one of XelaG's original bot Beta testers way back in early 1999. I
had an inside track on that program and got some superb training on it's
use. The bottom line...I need a buildbot more than anything else and
from what I've seen (minus the new 4.1 versions), it copies and places
builds, filters cit numbers and objects and backs up and wipes property
and terrain in a snap! That's all I need (although the Xelagot will do
much more).
Jul 29, 2006, 8:26pm
Hello 4.1 Bot Programmers,
I work for a private (closed to the public) 4.1 universe and part of
my responsibilities are to obtain new content and bots for them. It's an
educational universe where grade school students come in and learn the
basics of 3D virtual reality. Included in the program are "Quests”,
which are simple lessons that the students do as part of the curriculum.
They are things like helping clean up refuse in a local area. In this
example, we would need a bot that would count the amount of times the
"refuse" objects were clicked to clean them up and when they reach a
certain threshold, the refuse objects would be deleted permanently or
moved to another area in the same world.
Another example: A student is working on a botany lesson where they
would plant seedlings in a garden and over time these plants would grow
or die, depending on how well they are cared for over the lifetime of
the project.
Another example: A student is working on a music lesson and the goal
is to click on certain links in the 3D space or even a 2D webpage list
to listen to various collections of music and to record whether the
student listened to the whole piece or just quickly went through and
clicked everything at once.
As you can see, what we’re looking for is a relatively easy way to
script what we would need as projects with robust web database support.
In essence, we’re looking for the latest generation of rpg bot that is
highly editable and fairly easy to implement. Our organization is
budgeted for services like this so we are willing to barter on price and
“editability” of the bot.

What's even more fun is getting creative and substituting more appropriate
(and sometimes hilarious) words for ones on the bot's "Censor" list. Makes
for some interesting and enjoyable chats. Heheh

I've been a cit in AW since early 1998 and in my opinion, the number one
reason that keeps established cits (and tourists) coming back here, no
matter how much they complain about other issues, is the ease of use as far
as 3D environment construction is concerned. I believe AWI understands that
as well and it will take a MAJOR change in some aspect of the program to
influence any kind of other issue related to citizenship in AW. Until that
happens, no matter how much people complain, building will be the primary
draw to repeat visitors and citzens. To put it more simply, AW's lifeblood
is, and has always been, it's relative ease of use as far as building is
concerned. What AWI needs to do is exploit this issue and drive that fact
home that if you want to create your own 3D environment, AW is the place to
be and no amount of hype about other factors involved even come close.

Cool idea! Personally, I'd like to see any kind of system that allows
objects and avatars to sync to the uniserver clock so we could have objects
follow us faithfully in warp rides. I wouldn't mind how it can be achieved,
as long as it can be done with building commands.

Haha! Great list, short and to the point. I would like to combine your
1. and 2. points and ask for a "sculptable" 3D zone. Something that I
can pinch and stretch, similar to terrain but a 3D entity that can be
sculpted in 3D (and that accepts an animated texture). I recently had a
task given to me to simulate a cloud of topsoil runoff into a river and
I'd love to be able to sculpt a random, undulating 3D zone that mimics a
stream of silt in the 3D water.

How about a set of 4 and 8 meter curved glass panels a' la Nomad? Glass and
Opaque maybe? Of course, since there's no 3-axis rotation in Alpha
(grumbles), you'd want to make some 90 degree rotated sets too. And the
rounded floors that go with them. I've had a ball with that old set for
years in my builds. Very versatile.
