DotSoul/My first experiences with 4.1 BuildingApr 26, 2006, 9:22pm
They would do what ever AWI instructs them, because they are the ones who
have been granted access to 4.1, so unless they want to lose their own testing privileges, they would comply with AWI. As to why AWI would do such a thing, it would be obviously because they are not ready to reveal 4.1 like that.. They wanted the building and all that to remain a secret for a little longer. If everyone went to that universe and were using all the features, there would be little surprise when AWI releases 4.1 oficially. I've had previous arguments in that same universe, stating the same as you..
Yet I still hear its a galaxy, back from the same people.. They believe a galaxy can have two worlds.. not bloody likely. [View Quote] Growing Up AWstyleMay 6, 2006, 10:31am
Podcasting Community Into 3D Chatting - But IS NOT Doing It On ActiveWorlds...May 14, 2006, 9:35am
What a great community AW is.
Depressing ;)May 12, 2006, 10:38am
As much as that sucks, and as much as 4.1 will be a major release, I doubt
it will get *that* many new registrations.. It is essientially AW, no matter what version it is.. To make it comparable with any other favourable 3D chat, would mean a new 3D engine, and pretty much a new AW all together. What we have now, is AW.. what we have in 4.1, is AW. If little pay for it now, not many more will pay for it with the upgrade. I don't know how to explain it in normal terms, but I guess I mean that a high percentile of new-citizens have little to no expierence in the features that most would think they'd join for. What that means is, to know how good AW is, they need to pay for it at least once.. Likewise with 4.1. The only way to save AW would be for AWI to play their cards properly and salvage what they can, which with some projects (little of it being 4.1), is what they are doing. Keep in mind though, a lot of damage has been done already. [View Quote] Depressing ;)May 12, 2006, 10:42am
Have to add more onto that (sorry, I love to argue over this stuff) --
In IT communications & e-commerce class, it teaches that it takes 80% of the pay from the business to obtain new customers. It is taught to all aspiring CEOs and business owners that they should always invest in keeping their existing customers. For example, you goto a barber, they will do your hair amazingly well the first time.. after several visits, they lack their great performance.. What happens? You change barbers. Thanks for listening to my complaining.. Bad thing the people who need the advice will never read it. Depressing ;)May 12, 2006, 10:02pm
I'm pretty certain that something like this did happen.
Otherwise, those dreams are pretty contagious. [View Quote] Grand Theft Auto ProjectMay 18, 2006, 5:27am
Greetings,
We are currently working on a project in AW which is pretty much a Grand Theft Auto - orientated world. I thought it would be good to let the community know what we are doing so far, and what our goals are. My [currently small] team consisting of RoxRox, Darkel and myself have built a small testing area in RoxLand, which so far includes quite a few cutom objects, as well as many well-recognized GTA models. RoxRox has set up a few xelagot bots to mimic some AI, until we work on our own bots, which will come at a later stage. What we aim to do is create a modern city with a great deal of playability. Although we are still planning the future of the project as we go along. We are developing the world openly, so all are welcome to drop by and visit us in RoxLand world. Before I let you all comment and criticize alike, I do have a video of what we do have in the works. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVoFq8uuoQw Grand Theft Auto ProjectMay 18, 2006, 7:59am
Thanks for the positive reply all. And yes, Rox does love the bloom effect a
little too much. Playability is what we aim to accomplish, giving the user - well, something to play, rather than exploring. We do have plans on how this will work. [View Quote] Grand Theft Auto ProjectMay 18, 2006, 10:43am

Yes, the problem with explaining the playability is that we are still
working on it.. We can't say postively what type of playability there will. We want to keep it as graphic as possible, and steer away from the text-based system used in other worlds like AWRPG. This is particularly hard with AW. Any ideas for the project, including how you would like to see the final product playable, are all greatly appreciated. You can either reply to these posts or telegram me. The same goes for anyone who wishes to help the project in some way. Sorry I cannot answer your question too well at this time, SWE. I'll keep everyone updated at the project gets more in-depth. Thanks, Equin0x [View Quote] Grand Theft Auto ProjectMay 18, 2006, 6:35pm
I appreciate the feedback.
Of course you must remember that Active Worlds is limited with its game-like ability and thus, if we wanted to, would have a diificult time adding in features as violent as Sweets highlights. I do share some of your views on violent video games, but I believe as long as they're in the right hands, the mature gamers, then everything is fine. No one will play a GTA game and then go kill someone, if they did not originally have the intent to kill them anyway. As some games do belong in the proper mature gamers' collection, rather than sitting next to Elmo and Big Bird, it is not my role to monitor the game, unless it was my own release. I personally have no problem with Grand Theft Auto, and I even am studying to be in the NSW Police. I'll conclude by saying whatever track we take with the project, it will be carefully thought out. That is the old, old 2D GTA that can date back as far as almost ten years
ago. From 2001, GTA has been a very different game in that sense. [View Quote] Grand Theft Auto ProjectMay 18, 2006, 10:07pm
The world is currently R-rated. This is not due to the horrific project
we're running but rather the profanity that some of the people are using in there. [View Quote] Grand Theft Auto ProjectMay 19, 2006, 1:10am
Same here in Aust.. Most likely because our goverment is derived from yours.

Thanks for the support, much appreciated. It really encourages us to strive
for the best. In reply to Sweets, GTA:SA was banned in Australia for about two - four weeks. It is now sold at the retailers again. Anyhow, thanks again for the feedback all. Grand Theft Auto ProjectMay 19, 2006, 9:59am
The reason why murders and such are linked to violent video games is because
lawyers use it as a scape-goat, attempting to lesser the potential charges which their client faces. People who don't know what they're talking about hear "murder" "violent video games" and they use their logic and add up half the story they've been told by the manipulating media. Grand Theft Auto ProjectMay 19, 2006, 11:17pm
Good discussion. Could imagine how good it would've been if the project was
Postal 2. Grand Theft Auto ProjectMay 20, 2006, 12:19am
Not sure how much people will agree with you there.
I agree sex isn't as bad as violence. But then again, I don't see video game violence that bad at all, if handled the right way. [View Quote] Grand Theft Auto ProjectMay 20, 2006, 6:38am
Thanks for your views and your strong comments.
I can say on the behalf of all my team, that the words you give us defintally promotes us to strive to bring the best out of what we do. The team and myself are very ambitious with this project and we will make it as much as a success as the browser will allow. The problem we face now is not the technicalities of the browser or server, but a world problem. We have been doing the project in a world that was given to us, which has expired. We then made astonishing progress in a trial world, which only has about 19 days left. We came this far in the last ten days, so in the remaining time we hope to get something really good to be demoed, hoping that someone will see it and would donate to the cause. We will take each step at a time. Thanks for the encouragement once again. Josh. here we go againMay 26, 2006, 9:45pm
here we go againMay 26, 2006, 11:52pm
You will see a slight jump in activity in AW.
Followed by a slight drop in activity. People come in, have fun. Then it goes back to normal. Thats the only guess I've got. [View Quote] contactsMay 30, 2006, 4:04am
I would hope that if there they make a webpage for citizens to 'clear' their
contact list. This would be simple, after validating your login information, it just needs to delete the contact list file for that account. Would save me trouble deleting my big list. [View Quote] I'm turning blue...May 30, 2006, 3:23am
In Australia, it is now 3:22PM, 30th May.
AW offices don't open for another five or six hours, so you still have that final waiting period. Cheers, Equin0x [View Quote] |
