If you're looking for such a professional job, that is going to be free of
charge -- why are you doing it all in ActiveWorlds?
I'm a programmer, but I'm far too inexperienced to compare with Strike, so I
wouldn't be any help myself.
If you do, however, have any other positions avaliable, I'm avliable for the
next several months.
I have been with AW for an incredibly long time, and have experience in game
development.
Please contact me via AW or email (xeroer at gmail.com) if you would like to
acquire my services.
Thanks,
Josh.

Hi all,
Just wondering if it is possible to convert models from Grand Theft Auto
games (GTAIII, Vice City or San Andreas) to usable formats in
Because of the game structure, please only reply if you have experience with
the game.
As you know, the files are saved as .txd and .dff (textures and models).
Please reply with some rough instructions on how to convert, if you know of
any.
Thanks,
equin0x.

Greetings,
I have held a world which has quite a lot of builds in it, that are also
interlinked with bots and such.
The system the server was running on had a power failure, most likely during
the time the server was writing to cell data files.
This causes an error of something along the lines of "Unable to read cell
database - run convert!".
The convert.bat program that it suggests, simply says "Invalid path" or the
like, a few times before closing within the half a split second that it is
open for.
I have a cache of the world, but I believe the method of transfering the
cache to a propdump has been long taken away from AW, as people were using
it for illegit purposes.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
I really don't want to start over again.
Dec 2, 2005, 2:02am
So people donate and then need to pay $10 to get to use their own objects +
other donated objects?
I think it would be nice if it was donate and you get free access, others
would need todo something in return - even at least provide a reference to
the world.
Any objects that were previously donated could not be included with the
world if it charged $10, as the modellers donated them for free public use,
knowing that there are donations accepted, and everyone knows how much money
donations gather.
They didn't make the models to be sold for $10 per month, if they did,
they'd be selling the objects themselves.
AWI should really assist with the world, renewing it and such. The world is
non-profit and is helping the customers of AW, so what else do AW want? It's
basically the world owner doing AWI's work and paying them for it.

The real point is, its a free world, and it was designed to give out things
for free. When it was created, and every time it is renewed, the person
paying the price understands that they are doing so.
It's nice to be nice, but the world owner/funder/caretakers aren't posting
on these NGs complaining about it.
I'm not saying that the world should stay free, I'm just being the devil's
advocate and trying to explain the other side of things.

If it was changed, then SpiralMatrix may be getting more visitors than
ever... but most likey, they'd just be visiting to check out that world..
They would come, get the objects they need, then leave.
I think $14.95 (is that still the reg. price?) is a great bundle deal price
for access to SpiralMatrix as a citizen, and subscription to the world
'Freebie'.
Think that as the fee for keeping the world running. :)

My citizenship expires in Janruary, so I want to renew, but their "customer

I will be trying to set this up in another universe.
If anyone has or can model some Poker objects, it will defintally help the
development.
So far, I really need the following objects:
A deck of cards (just the deck, solid thick rectangle object)
Poker table (and seats)
A deck of cards, individual.. Jokers aren't required, but I guess it could
never hurt.
(Need each one, e.g. Ace of spades, heart, diamonds, clubs and so on with
each number/royale.)
Dealer button
"Push" buttons - Fold, Bet, Raise, Check, Call
Generic "poker room" objects.. E.g, wall, floor, roof and the classic poker
lights.
If anyone actually does respond to this and does any work, it is highly
appreciated, and it is one more person than I ever thought would do it.
And no, I'm not expecting someone to actually make those objects.. Just
saying what I'd need if there are any modellers out there who want to help
make a poker game.

Just been ejected from AWGate, because you Americans seem to consider the
words "hell" and "damn".
Having a telegram conversation with the ejecting Gatekeeper, Frosta as I
type this, which has just blocked my telegrams, after sending me a very nice
one and making sure I cannot reply to it.
My point is simple. Hell and damn are words you will hear on Simpsons and
such, rated G.. AWGate, rated G, and we have to keep it suitable for
children under the age of three?
Any parent in their right mind wouldn't put a child under ten years old, at
the youngest, in a large chat environment such as ActiveWorlds.
We have all these problems in the world, and all these senseless gatekeepers
have to worry about is some kid saying hell instead of replacing it with the
pre-schooler term.
I'm getting sick of this. I just want to keep typing more, due to my
extensive frustration.
And for the record, Australia does have a real tight outline on what is
considered swearing.. The words which I was ejected for, are far from bad
langauge.
-Equin0x.

Cultures are different.. Here we have ads promoting Australian Jam (what a
great example), rather than the American brands.. The TV commercial, airing
any time of any day - including prime time for kids, bares the slogan whilst
yelling it at you, "GIVE A DAMN ABOUT YOUR JAM".
Thats the easiest example that came into mind, sorry.
As you all know that there is differences in cultures, that was the problem
at the time -- I telegrammed Frosta asking about that, which a reply came,
"Doesn't matter where I am from goes for all".
Quite inaccurate.
On another note, if I would be a Satanist, freedom of religion, no matter
how much religion should not be bought into the gate, if someone comments on
their religion, they are fine.. If I make a comment on my religion using one
or both of the worlds, I'm gone.
I believe context is good.. but thats why we have Gatekeepers, thats why the
CA bot doesn't have those words in its dictionary.
If we use the words as in "It is as hot as hell", then I see no problems
with that. If I tell someone to "Die and goto hell", then they, by all
means, should be removed.
It's not the word, it's the string of words that matters.
Hence, why we actually have humans patrolling the gate.
-Equin0x.

I would imagine that should only go for words such as f -- erm, you know
what I mean.
For someone who wasn't familar with how bad you are with censorship over in
the States, I would appreciate a better warning system.
If America is so bold on what words can be said/typed, whilst other
countries are more laxed, shouldn't AW have it's own system.. I would
believe that the word "Hell" wouldn't be on the blacklist.
And don't give me that whole "American cultures first." thing. AW has
promoted itself over the years of being a multi-cultural community.
Another citizen told me that s/he was ejected for quoting Shakespeare, "If
you prick us, do we not bleed?".
I say, lets stick to teaching users how to use ActiveWorlds in the Gate, not
scaring them off and booting them away because they ask someone "Is there a
Hell themed world?"

Was actually me who posted the thread..
I see just about all of you have very intelligent points, whilst some points
are making me wonder about what you guys are on about.
While I can not agree with all extremities, and all of which lackthereof, I
fear that there isn't going to be any resolution to the original post.
It just depends on the Gatekeeper, or any other form of authority,, If they
are in a good mood or not (typical, I guess), their view on the offence, the
guidelines set forth detailing the offence, and so on.. Sadly to say, some
may even take in the relationship with the offending person, which may also
result in an abuse of authority powers.
I cannot say that any of those variables are what I suffered from, but
rather just a lack of thought.

They should do a public beta real soon..
The current total of active citizens is equal to that of the 3.0 beta.
I'd say, since we're the loyal, and more costly-paying citizens, that are

ProtonMedia all over again.
AWI will be very happy that houndreds of their users are flocking to their
large client's (which could easily be a rival) universe, spoiling their big
4.1 surprise.
What more, you can always have fun there by making some edits to
controls.ini to get a user list and such up, which is really good for
finding friends.
Edit AW files at your own risk though!
