Ok. Have you counted all the people you have "met" that are mentioned on
this list?? More importantly, have you proof-read this list yet???
According to you, you met yourself more than 8 times. You also "met" the
Customs Aide and the Immigration Officer. You also met someone named: ...
Sound Guy patiently waits for all items to D/L before restarting AW. Several
people that you have "met" are actually people that occasionally (for no
good reason) change their names. Like Tiffie for example. Same person- 4
names on your list. You also met NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO",
"NOOOOOOOOOOOO",ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
and "BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO". I also counted at least 9 bots in there. According
to that list you met [Summer Bash], and [Sumemr Bash] (no that wasn't a
typo from me). How efficient is VB code if one doesn't read through these
things???? Another silly question: How many years back have you saved all
those chatlogs????????????? And why???????? ROFL!!!!!! ;-"D Note: for
someone who is always concerned about bandwidth and whether people snip.....
you sure didn't take much time to proof read that list hon. hehehe.

Hmmmmmm.... read the website and agree with all that is said. But got a
nasty visual of my boss and family's reaction to me taking the day off and
not taking care of things as usual. ROFL!! My daughter would refuse to do
her homework. My husband would want well earned time for himself. So would
I. And my husband and I would get fired for taking off work to spend quality
time on ourselves or our family. LOL.
Some very valid observations brought up in the website however, about the
emotional, mental and physical costs of "downsizing" that is going on in the
states the past decade. It's affecting our families and our health.
Mandatory overtime and longer shifts are becoming a way of life here in the
states and its killing us and our relationships with each other. Marriages
are falling apart because of it and kids are not getting the attention they
need from their parents. But I did think of a question while reading that
website. After reading all those valid points, why would ANYONE with a
family want to spend time ONLINE to chat about not having enough time to
spend with your family or yourself. Shouldn't you be doing something in RL
instead????? Like spending real time on yourself or loved ones?? LOL. Just
MY 2 cents worth. hahahaha. (cowers)> please don't flame me. ;-")

I know ya were but you weren't in the eastern half of PA. And I didn't have
the money to travel to Boston.
We were lucky thank God. Only had the wind (35mph sustained and gusts of 55
in places). The rain and most of the storm went to the west and south of us,
although we were prepared for all the flooding and trees down, etc. Since we
had recieved more rain than the ground could handle, the past month or two,
the trees were easily uprooted and the creeks and rivers were already
swollen. They even canceled school for us cus most of the kids here are
bussed. There were scattered power outtages in this area from branches and
trees falling, but nothing major. Round here we were preparing for something
like what we got in 72 from Hurricane Agnes, but Isabel weakened a lot
before it got to us and it moved through pretty quickly. However not too
far to the west of Philly they had some major flooding just two days before
the hurricane from all the rain, but thank goodness Isabel didnt' produce
much rain for eastern PA. ;-"D

Feel like you could possibly get a job working in IS if only you were old
enough or had a degree?? Feel like helping new people learn the ropes
without committing yourself to becoming a GK or PK but not sure how?? Got a
skill relating to AW you would like to share with others??? Need a welcome
break from all the flaming that goes on in the newsgroups??? Got a question
for those more technically skilled than you are in building or bots??? Or,
do you just need some fulfillment in your poor, devoid, and boring life,
knowing that you can help AW newbies learn how to get around and watch as
they take their first babysteps towards "AW-addiction".
If any of this interests you at all, please check out VS Jonno's new website

with some of their questions and to develope some FAQs. Thank you~ ;-")

Not sure which "kid's" programs you watch on a regular basis, but here in
the states they DON'T allow shit or any other cuss words to be used. The
news is a different matter and if and when such language is used, they
usually bleep it out or at least try to. There are still a lot of people
that are offended by words such as that. AWI still has to follow certain
guidelines here in the states in order to allow users of ALL age groups.
Even though some kids in the states use that kind of language when they
arent' in the presence of their parents, I would say the majority of them
are conscious enough to "watch their mouths" when their parents are within
earshot. However, when parents are not present while their child is
chatting, their kid will try to imitate Chris Rock and pour forth a
paragraph so foul, it'll burn yer ears. THAT is why AW is so strict on the
language thing at the gate area, where all the new folks enter for the VERY
first time!!!
C'mon... Use some common sense. Put yourself in the shoes of a parent of a
10 year old, who is checking out Active Worlds for the first time, to make
SURE their child will be safe and if it is worth investing in. Would you
want your kid to come on and think its ok to let burning sewage emanate from
his or her mouth????? Not only does it earn your child a bad reputation with
others, but it also slanders you as their parent because you didn't teach
them manners.
And whatever happened to just plain ole "decency"??? Why do we feel the need
to offend others??? Can't we just accept the fact that we should all try our
best to NOT offend? Or do you find delight in seeing how many people cringe
when you say these things?
If people feel these words building up inside them to the point of iminent
combustion, then those people can, and should utilize the PG and R rated
worlds that are available for that purpose. In the meantime, bite yer tongue
while in the G worlds and get a grip. Realize why it is like it is, and
don't obsess over WHY you can't cuss words in front of children. Obviously
people who don't mind hearing words like that have no trouble going to those
other worlds, while folks who mind it will tend to stay in the G rated
areas. And I'm sure this isn't a thing that only happens in the states hon.
It's just good manners. ;-"D

I agree with you on what you said about children who cannot read yet.
However, usually a parent is with that child when visiting AW. As far as
children not learning anything from adult behavior you are wrong. Are you a
parent? What would you do if a ten year old asked you in whispers what
intercourse meant? It happened to me a couple of years ago. Apparently a guy
wanted her to "perform intercourse" with him in AW. I have never felt so
helpless in all my life, not knowing how to proceed. I could not answer her.
It was not my place to do so, especially since I didn't know how much she
already knew or possibly learned from her male "friend" online. Online is
NOT the place for a child to learn these things. And obviously it DOES
happen!!!! Because you have never seen it happen, does not mean it cannot. I
have met a few guys in AW who don't care at all how old a person is online,
just as long as they get their rocks off. Recently I burst someone's bubble
when I pointed out to him that he could be cybering with a 67 year old man
named Elmer instead of the person he was imagining. When someone logs on
with the name of HotToTrot or SexyLady, you can't just assume it is who you
hope it is. Yes it might be that perverted old man or that 11 year old girl
getting their kicks as you perv with them. Yes kids CAN learn things online
that they shouldn't. One thing they do learn from watching us adults online
is what is acceptable and what isn't. If they see us spewing out garbage
from our mouths, they will and do think its acceptable. If they see we use
restraint about certain subjects, they will also try to use restraint. We
can and should teach our children good values online. As I mentioned to
Kellee earlier, if people feel the overwhelming need to use foul language
and get their jollies, they should consider visiting a PG or R rated world.
Why do people feel the need to do that in a G rated world? They know little
kids come there. They know new people come there to examine the program.
It's just common sense.

<----------confused...... please clarify something for me? You said
"Most Americans seem to think the world started when

country? When did this happen? I'm an American and I never learned that in
history class. Are you American? Did you poll all those Americans? I don't
remember recieving my poll either. Maybe I live in the wrong section of the
world. (By the way, my ancestors were Native Americans, Germans, British,
Irish and Swiss and yes, the ones from Europe came here before 1776 and

My guess is that MS dropped the whole idea cus of Xbox going live. True you
can't currently customize an av on there as of yet or build yet, but I
wouldn't be a bit surprised if that is made available sometime within the
next year. But you can socialize with others on there thru the voice chat
(no typing whatsoever) and can participate in fun games with each other.

Are you a "skinhead" by any chance? That was one of the most prejudiced
remarks I've EVER seen in these newsgroups or in AW in general regardless of
any country insinuation you might be making. For one thing, ... anybody
....of any race ...could be a cold blooded killer. And there are murderers in
every country in the world. This country welcomes everybody, no matter what
ethnic background, race or creed. Just because you would never want to set
foot in the USA, you shouldn't be judging people who come here looking for a
better life or who have family already living here. Don't just assume a
particular group of people here are the violent ones. It might surprise you
to learn there are just as many caucasian, asian, and hispanic criminals in
this country and probably in yours too. You can also add to that group all
the different religious backgrounds of those criminals. Dunno what leads you
to believe what you said is true. But it sure sounds like stereotyping to
me. No one race or religious creed is better than the others in this world.
We all are capable of hate and also peace. And in case you didn't know, the
word "nigga" is one of the most hateful things you can say anywhere in the
world. It is very offensive to most people who wish for peace. If you can't
understand why people are offended by that word, please update yourself on
the history of the African Americans and of segragation. Don't just go by
"hear-say" in your own country.

Thank you for bringing that to my attention. I am well aware of that tyvm. I
do have a lot of friends who are African American. It's one thing for THEM
to joke around about that word. It's quite another to say something like you
did. Heck, I'm blonde and am always making comments about my blonde moments,
however if someone says they can't stand blondes cus they're all F***ing
dumb it is offensive and full of hate. Or a Jew joking about their customs
even though a thoughtless remark from another person such as "They're
f***ing selfish pigs" is very hateful. Think before you speak. You never
know who might read your comment and feel racially or religiously offended.
By saying what you did... ( > > > who would want to go there just to get
shot by some fucking nigga?<<< ) You insinuated that they are the only ones
who would attack a visitor to our country. And you insinuated that they do
it on a regular basis. Here where I live we have "drive by" shootings. We
have all the other violent crimes too. The people who do something like that
are all different colors and backgrounds. In this area we have African
Americans, Hispanics, Hindus, Native Americans, Asians, and people from
several European countries including Russia, Italy, the Ukraine, Germany,
........ the list goes on and on, and this town isn't as large as NYC. Its
just a small example of a typical city with typical problems. You can't just
use words like that around here without people getting offended. If you were
to say what you did, in the manner you said it to an African American, not
only would that person feel hurt and angry with you, that person would look
upon you as a reminder of all the bigotry done to them by your particular
race. If you say the wrong thing to the wrong person who might be a crazy
nutcase you'd be the next victim laying in the city morgue. Doesn't matter
what they LOOK like or what country you are in.

You Better Watch Out: The Hazards of the Season
By Joel Achenbach
Washington Post Staff Writer
Friday, December 5, 2003; Page C01
No, Virginia, there isn't a Santa Claus.
Drop the twinkling angel ornament and come out with your hands up.
The state of Virginia this past summer adopted new fire codes that prohibit
certain apartment dwellers from possessing a freshly cut Christmas tree. The
rationale is that, in buildings without sprinkler systems, dried-out
Christmas trees can become lethal. A fir so easily becomes a fire.
Naturally the new codes, when publicized this week, triggered widespread
hysteria and protests. Some state and local fire officials responded by
saying they wouldn't enforce the ban.
That would be tragic, because, in addition to building roads and schools and
waging the occasional war in a distant land, the obligation of the
government is to protect citizens from freak accidents that kill a handful
of people every year in a country of 280 million. This new law should be the
catalyst for a sweeping crackdown on all the hazards that make Christmas
notorious as the season of misery and death.
Here is a list, compiled over several hours of careful risk analysis, of all
the things that must be banned immediately before someone gets hurt:
1. Eggnog. Hideously fattening; leads to coronary artery disease. When
"spiked" it incites the drinker to turn to more dangerous holiday beverages,
including mulled wine, hard cider and schnapps.
2. Decorations. Broken glass ornaments can lead to fatal bleeding in
hemophiliacs. Strings of lights offer unusual electrocution opportunities.
Extravagant outdoor lighting displays can cause automobile pileups on the
street and/or blindness. Live animals in a manger might bite children.
3. Carols. Hypothermia risk. Certain high notes are hard to hit, causing
embarrassment, stress and other harbingers of early death. Religious themes
of carols could prove offensive to some listeners and inadvertently trigger
a clash of civilizations.
4. Sledding. Involves a kinetic event that would more properly be described
as skidding. Any close analysis will reveal that sleds not only have poor
traction but are expressly designed to have minimal grip on a slick surface.
Should be every bit as illegal as dangling a baby from a balcony.
5. Hearths. The ultimate fire hazard. People often use them to have open
fires, complete with exploding embers that can land on furniture, on heavily
gelled hair or even on a small furry pet that could suddenly go FOOF! and
turn into the Yowling Fireball of Doom.
6. Menorahs. Still more open fire. Why not just pass around blowtorches and
cans of gasoline?
7. Artificial Christmas trees. Fairfax County assistant fire marshal Mike
Reilly, defending the ban on cut trees, said Tuesday: "I just put up my
nine-foot artificial tree. I don't think it's a major inconvenience when you
look at the risks." Obviously, plastic Christmas trees are growing to
enormous size these days, and anyone who stands under a nine-foot colossus
runs the risk of being crushed.
8. Gifts. Small gifts are a choking hazard. Large gifts lead to hernias.
Coal in the stocking of a person who has been bad poses a severe fire risk.
CDs have wrapping that requires the use of knives and scissors in a manner
that can lead to the loss of a finger. Shopping leads to excessive debt,
anxiety and compensatory high-risk behaviors such as smoking, heavy drinking
and attempted gift returns. Improper gift-buying, such as when a
well-meaning male gives his sweetheart something unromantic, like a
Dustbuster, or a 52-piece socket wrench set, or a jumbo can of Dr. Scholl's
Foot Deodorant Spray, can lead to domestic violence.
9. Mistletoe. The number of unwanted pregnancies resulting from the
placement of mistletoe on the ceiling and over doorways has never been
properly calculated, but is surely astronomical. Tongues are a choking
hazard.
10. Shopping mall Santas. A strange man wearing a disguise who asks small
children to sit in his lap. You make the call.
11. Reindeer. Lyme disease vectors.
12. Elves. Ideology and political allegiance unknown. Terror risk?
