Thank you for verbalizing what I have agonized over since reading all those
complaints about all the monuments/memorials in AW. You have eloquently expressed exactly what I felt. I was ticked off when I read those complaints. Since when does ANYBODY have the right to dictate whether or not to make any kind of memorial/monument or how to pay respects???? Does it REALLY matter what nationality, religion, political or ethnic background the victims of a tragedy are???? Or the people who want to show their respects??? If those astronauts were Palestinian, French, Russian, British or Iraqi, there would still be people who would want to pay their respects. And who are WE to say there aren't any people in AW who don't know family or friends of the deceased???? They might be tourists in AW or citizens. We should respect those who want to pay respects to a tragedy, whether we agree or not with their monuments. Just because the deceased doesn't represent your particular country or political views, their death and the respect shown them should not be belittled. ;-"/ [View Quote] To All the Whiners (was Re: Memorial)Feb 3, 2003, 11:03pm
I think what bugs me the most (as an afterthought), is that all the whining
and bickering that is going on about all this in the ngs.... have we considered, even for a moment.... that perhaps one of their friends or family is also reading all this and how it is making them feel???????? ;-"< A Theory on Posters and FlamesFeb 25, 2003, 10:10am

Goodbye AWAug 5, 2003, 5:05am
Whoever gave you the copyrighted avs should be the one taking the heat for
you hon. They should stand up for what is fair. I mean afterall, its not like you profited from those avs. When you opened your world it was for a fun game of bingo and you asked for DONATIONS for the prizes. I'm sure there are some knowledgable people in AW who can easily straighten this mess out. It's not fair that you were the one asked to leave. Obviously those people don't read these newsgroups much. I'd hate to see you leave AW over this when there are others out there who are not speaking up on your behalf. It would also help some if the person to whom those avs belong would understand the circumstances and not press the issue. It is obvious you are trying to correct whatever mistakes happened. Understanding and Tolerance are virtues that not many AW users have demonstrated lately. You have tried to make AW a better, more fun place to visit, and opened your world to ALL adults, not just a specific group of people. You will be missed by a lot of people Innie. Not just for your world Pleasure, but mostly for your friendship and the smiles you bring to the people that you meet. Please don't leave over this. There are other avenues to take. Most of us know the difference tween right and wrong and know in our hearts that you didn't steal those avs for your own gain. It would be nice if more people came forward to speak up for you or at least clear your good name. ;-"/ [View Quote] To All Things... An EndingAug 15, 2003, 2:45pm
I totally agree with you Baro. AW should be a place for never ending
creativity and self improvement. We have enough committees and politics in RL. AW has sooooooo many wonderful builds in every world, but there is always someone coming along who creates something different and amazing. For years I've wanted to learn how to model but lack the time in RL to learn it and practice it. I hope somebody reading your post gets the inspiration to learn modeling and create more exciting things or at least provide those new models for others to create fantastic builds. Weebo, if you're reading this, you have a terrific imagination and I believe you'd do great at modeling. You have the foresight and the creative juices to amaze all of us. I think you should hold onto your world and let your dreams flow. The hell with problem solving. ;-"D [View Quote] Lotto?Sep 1, 2003, 11:00pm
I don't think anybody really knows "who" Lotto really is. All I know is that
he is a jerk to anybody unlucky enough to receive a telegram from him. (Not even sure its a "he"). Poor Weebo lost his PK cus of Lotto, the very same night Lotto gave someone in bingo a hard time in whispers and the bingo host (who wasn't Weebo by the way) had to eject him. I have yet to hear from anybody that Lotto is a nice person. If you like, I can gram you with copies of the grams he sent me. Might surprise you to find out he doesn't care how old someone is. According to what he told me in gram.... " if the person/kid is "hot", who cares?". Disturbing. 0_0 [View Quote] Lotto?Sep 5, 2003, 3:16pm
Thank goodness. But what about what happened to Weebo when he tried to do
his job??? Due to circumstances with Lotto, Weebo not only is no longer a PK, but was frustrated and disgusted with the unfairness of it all and gave away a bunch of cit accts and his world too. I think Weebo is overdue for an apology from some people. Dunno if Weebo would accept his PK responsibilities back again after the way he was treated, but it SHOULD at least be offered back to him. It might be a different matter if PK were a paid job. But it is voluntary. One is aware when applying that there are moments that one will run into problems. However if one is doing what they should, one shouldn't be treated like the way Weebo was treated. The guy lost sleep over all this. Not to mention days and nights of worrying about it and feeling like he was the one being punished. And all the anger he felt and the feeling of being deserted by his peers. I think the PK's should have supported him better and perhaps a series of group meetings should have taken place, right away. Not wait for a few weeks. I"m sure Lotto isn't the only person like this to cause problems for the PK's. Nor will he be the last. I'm afraid that if things don't improve soon, you'll find more PK's leaving out of frustration and then you'll find nobody wants the job. [View Quote] Things you hear in AWSep 5, 2003, 3:20pm

I think that's a great thing yer doing Bowen. ;-") Not everyone owns their
own world and have to rely on public worlds to build in. During the years I"ve been a cit, it's always bothered me that the ONLY huge round object for large sculptures is the stupid hot air balloon. It would be great if we had various sizes of spheres to use. It would be nice to NOT have a cursed hanging basket getting in the way all the time. Rocks/boulders are nice sometimes but they are very lumpy and pointy and sometimes very flat on their sides. If I want flat I'll use walls and panels. I see a renewed surge of creativity in AW especially since 3D axis was enabled. ;-"D We now have a whole new realm of commands available. Imagine the possibilities with a bunch of different sizes of spheres. Currently, besides the hot air balloon we also have a couple of huge roof objects, some large misshapen rocks, and a cloud. We really don't have many spherical or curved shapes to choose from. It would also be great if we had extra wide columns and columns WITHOUT the darned square piece at each end getting in the way. And recently while searching the OY's I noticed there is nothing thinner than flagpole.rwx to use when you need a skinny pole type object. Flagpole works ok but its kinda wide for some things like wires or rope...... and there is the matter of the wide base of it and the ball on the top end. Also there isn't anything that I've noticed that is smaller than button.rwx. Would be nice if we had flat round objects available. LOL. (Sorry, on a roll now ;-"D) And I also noticed we need smaller clear panels or glass objects. Didn't see much available there cept for pieces that were taller than my av. And a lot of our current objects don't take color very well cus they are already textured. For example using goldcurt on an already textured object looks awful when yer trying to achieve a smooth appearance of gold. Would be fantastic if we had some plain white or solid colored objects available. And how about some more varieties of pine trees???? Taller plants too, like ferns or ornamental grass or ivy??? Ok, ok, I'll stop now. I could go on and on. LOL. But even a contribution of some actual (round) spheres would be nice. ;-") (But make em solid color please??) anybody out there is able to contribute anything, perhaps my suggestions will give you some ideas. ;-") Hurricane Isabel and our CitizensSep 18, 2003, 12:44am
Eastern Pennsylvania here. Thanks hon. We'll be ok here. Only minor
flooding, some wind, power outtages and a ton of rain. But I'm worried about our AW friends south of here along the coastline of Delaware, Virginia and North Carolina. Also concerned about AW folks who live near easily flooded areas such as valleys or rivers or creeks. Although some of us don't think of rain as a life threatening issue,....... if a creek overflows its banks, the current is powerful enough to carry a car downstream, not to mention take out the foundations of a house next to it. Seen both happen and it ain't pretty. Virginia and North Carolina have beautiful mountains where people will be safer, however water usually drains down towards the valleys below, creating rivers that werent' there to begin with and mudslides too. So, there really isn't a safe place during a hurricane. Cept maybe an attic accompanied by a sturdy boat, some food and water and a laptop and cell phone just in case. hehehe. Hopefully nothing like that will happen to anyone. Thank God its no longer a Cat 5. I just hope people use common sense when deciding to stay or go and while traveling. ;-") [View Quote] Hurricane Isabel and our CitizensSep 19, 2003, 5:15am
On the lighter side of hurricane season ;-")Sep 18, 2003, 12:54am
Living in Florida
We're about to enter the peak of the hurricane season. Any day now, you're going to turn on the TV and see a weather person pointing to some radar blob out in the Atlantic Ocean and making two basic meteorological points. (1) There is no need to panic. (2) We could all be killed. Yes, hurricane season is an exciting time to be in Florida. If you're new to the area, you're probably wondering what you need to do to prepare for the possibility that we'll get hit by "the big one." Based on our experiences, we recommend that you follow this simple three-step hurricane preparedness plan: STEP 1: Buy enough food and bottled water to last your family for at least three days. STEP 2: Put these supplies into your car. STEP 3: Drive to Nebraska and remain there until Halloween. Unfortunately, statistics show that most people will not follow this sensible plan. Most people will foolishly stay here in Florida. We'll start with one of the most important hurricane preparedness items: HOMEOWNERS' INSURANCE: If you own a home, you must have hurricane insurance. Fortunately, this insurance is cheap and easy to get, as long as your home meets two basic requirements: (1) It is reasonably well-built, and (2) It is located in Nebraska. Unfortunately, if your home is located in Florida, or any other area that might actually be hit by a hurricane, most insurance companies would prefer not to sell you hurricane insurance, because then they might be required to pay YOU money, and that is certainly not why they got into the insurance business in the first place. So you'll have to scrounge around for an insurance company, which will charge you an annual premium roughly equal to the replacement value of your house. At any moment, this company can drop you like used dental floss. Since Hurricane George, I have had an estimated 27 different home-insurance companies. This week, I'm covered by the Bob and Big Stan Insurance Company, under a policy which states that, in addition to my premium, Bob and Big Stan are entitled, on demand, to my kidneys. SHUTTERS: Your house should have hurricane shutters on all the windows, all the doors, and -- if it's a major hurricane -- all the toilets. There are several types of shutters, with advantages and disadvantages: Plywood shutters: The advantage is that, because you make them yourself, they're cheap. The disadvantage is that, because you make them yourself, they will fall off. Sheet-metal shutters: The advantage is that these work well, once you get them all up. The disadvantage is that once you get them all up, your hands will be useless bleeding stumps, and it will be December. Roll-down shutters: The advantages are that they're very easy to use, and will definitely protect your house. The disadvantage is that you will have to sell your house to pay for them. Hurricane-proof windows: These are the newest wrinkle in hurricane protection: They look like ordinary windows, but they can withstand hurricane winds! You can be sure of this, because the salesman says so. He lives in Nebraska. Hurricane Proofing your property: As the hurricane approaches, check your yard for movable objects like barbecue grills, planters, patio furniture, visiting relatives, etc... You should, as a precaution, throw these items into your swimming pool (if you don't have a swimming pool, you should have one built immediately). Otherwise, the hurricane winds will turn these objects into deadly missiles. EVACUATION ROUTE: If you live in a low-lying area, you should have an evacuation route planned out. (To determine whether you live in a low-lying area, look at your driver's license; if it says "Florida," you live in a low-lying area). The purpose of having an evacuation route is to avoid being trapped in your home when a major storm hits. Instead, you will be trapped in a gigantic traffic jam several miles from your home, along with two hundred thousand other evacuees. So, as a bonus, you will not be lonely. HURRICANE SUPPLIES: If you don't evacuate, you will need a mess of supplies. Do not buy them now! Florida tradition requires that you wait until the last possible minute, then go to the supermarket and get into vicious fights with strangers over who gets the last can of SPAM. In addition to food and water, you will need the following supplies: 23 flashlights. At least $167 worth of batteries that turn out, when the power goes off, to be the wrong size for the flashlights. Bleach. (No, I don't know what the bleach is for. NOBODY knows what the bleach is for, but it's traditional, so GET some!) 55 gallon drum of underarm deodorant. A big knife that you can strap to your leg. (This will be useless in a hurricane, but it looks cool.) A large quantity of raw chicken, to placate the alligators. (Ask anybody who went through Andrew; after the hurricane, there WILL be irate alligators.) $35,000 in cash or diamonds so that, after the hurricane passes, you can buy a generator from a man with no discernible teeth. Of course these are just basic precautions. As the hurricane draws near, it is vitally important that you keep abreast of the situation by turning on your television and watching TV reporters in rain slickers stand right next to the ocean and tell you over and over how vitally important it is for everybody to stay away from the ocean. Good luck, and remember: Its great living in Paradise. ....SO MOVE TO NEBRASKA ( AND THEN ONCE YOU MOVE THERE, BUY A TRAVEL BROCHURE THAT TELLS YOU TO MOVE TO FLORIDA TO AVOID TORNADOS! ) Absolutely free Field and Stream magazine for 2 yearsSep 22, 2003, 8:15pm
