Not really an "old timer" to the ngs, but older and a bit wiser in real
life. I too have noticed how much flaming is done in here and that is why
even though I am tempted often to tell people off for being too judgemental,
I keep it to myself for fear of being flamed to a crisp. Funny how some
people can be so critical of others and yet they don't see the mistakes they
make or that they are reacting so harshly. Part of growing up and maturing
is being more tolerant of others and their mistakes. That is part of being
human, .....making mistakes. That's how we humans learn usually. I hope that
we all soon learn that by judging others we too must allow ourselves to be
judged by others. ;-"D

Sorry you had to be criticized like that. Not all of us are as calloused and
cold as some other people in here. There are some people who enjoy picking
apart posts that they "feel" don't belong in here. They forget the
definition of "community", whether it concerns an AW cit or not. For all we
know, those people who were shot may have been AW citizens or relatives of a
citizen. It is not our place to judge these posts. Don't worry chiklit, your
heart is in the right place. Just remember that that kind of news usually
makes its way across the national and international news broadcasts in most
homes, not just online. ;-"D

Am back and rrrrrrrrrrready to rrrrrrrrrrrumble!!! Had a frustrating couple
of weeks here in Real Life when I got slammed with a nasty combo of getting
sick, almost losing my job because of a dictator boss, my child needing help
with her homework, and we had our phone cut off because I forgot to pay the
stupid bill on time. Because we had no phone, we also had no puter. It
seemed like forever not being able to check our emails, do online banking,
AW, or just plain surf the web. They have computers at the local library but
they close at 7pm and I don't get home usually till 7:30 most evenings. One
day Lion and I traveled to a nearby mall to use their sad little excuse for
a public computer. But it was a buck for 4 minutes. After shelling out 4
bucks to do both of our emails, and look up some things online, we decided
to just hang in there a little while longer till they hooked our phone back
up again. He and I got a lot of Xbox time in during all that "down time".
hehehe. Funny how dependent we've become on our online status. When we don't
have that access we don't know WHAT to do with ourselves. I personally had
panic attacks because I didn't have any access to AW. Sheesh!! Talk about
dependency issues!!!! ;-"/

What can I say?? Obviously it's impossible to show up if your isp or phone
line doesn't cooperate enough to allow me access to anything online. Poor
timing if you ask me. Especially right before an important immunity
challenge. (By the way, we didn't regain our isp until early evening the
next day) I hold no grudges against those who have voted against me. It's
all in the name of the game. All my votes against everyone are deeply
regretted, but its one of those things you have to do to play Survivor. I am
proud of the fact that not once have I cheated. I have won a tshirt. And my
daughter enjoyed indirectly participating with me and reading the postings.
Hopefully I have not made any enemies. I have developed some nice
friendships during the course of this contest and hope to retain those
relationships. Twice I have voted for myself because I couldn't bring myself
to vote for my tribemates, which is now a detriment to me here, near the end
of the game. I, like the other 3 contestants would love to win a world of my
own. I've never had my own world. However, if I get voted off, I will be a
good sport about it all.

OMG!!!!!!! Yer really 17????!!! But I thought you were really 12!!
SHEESH!! hehehhe. Maki, one of the many reasons you and I could relate is
that you like to make people smile, even to spite yourself in the process.
I, too, have had NUMEROUS situations where I was ostracized for comments or
actions that were only meant to make people smile. I have definately learned
not to call people "idiots" in mixed company. Ya never know who will go
ballistic on you in whisper by using such foul language it makes yer ears
blush just by reading it. I have also learned not to make fun of someone's
lack of typing skills more than twice in 5 minutes or someone will think you
are singling out that person and trying to tear them down. And I have
learned never, EVER, try to be funny by saying you are sorry to hear they
come from a particular state or country. There are a LOT of people in this
world hon, who don't share our sense of humor and they never will. Remember
also that some people have mental illnesses that prevent them from knowing a
funny moment when they see one. (seriously) Thank God I don't have an
illness like that and neither do you. And also depending on how you phrase
things in chat, people will have a different take on what you say depending
on their perception of the intent or what they read. Unfortunately for some
people, that problem is exacerbated by substance abuse. hahahah. (for the
humor impaired, that was meant as a joke) I formed my own opinion of you,
Maki, and I like ya. Now don't go getting all mushy on me hon. I've seen
some of yer jokes. Especially the one where I was the ONLY one left standing
on the pole and everyone around me was eliminated from the contest. (You
know what I'm talking about). But you have never insulted me in any way, or
hurt me or lost my trust. You have shown me so many times that you are a
compassionate person who loves to help others, who has more common sense
than some adults I know, who loves to please people and make the world
smile. And THAT makes me think you are a terrific young man who will make an
outstanding example not just in the AW community but in real life as well.
Don't you worry hon. We ALL make mistakes and "some" of us even learn from
them. Maybe one day we will all realize just how short life is, and
sometimes you have to do "something" to make people smile and not take life
so seriously. ((((((((((((((((((((((((Hugz))))))))))))))))) ;-"D

to quote a "tourist" who pops in at the gate area from time to time... "GK
MARY THE B!*&% CAN SUCK MY F%$^#* DICK AND THEN STICK IT UP HER WET P^##Y
AND THEN SUCK ON IT TILL IT C*#S ALL OVER HER FACE!!!!!!!" (end of quote)
..... there's many more quotes I can put here. Including those immature
people (kids?) who just pop in every once in a while to say F%$^ or S#IT
or something equivalent just to be funny.
I have an open mind. I usually don't cringe when an occasional "cuss" word
comes spilling out of someone when they are angry and feel the need to
express themselves. But I truly believe most people in this world are raised
with better morals than the asswipe that I quoted earlier in this post. I am
also sure that other countries are trying to teach their children those same
values. In some countries it is considered rude to point a finger. In some
countries it is considered rude to burp in public. There ARE a LOT of kids
in AW. Not just little kids like my 11 year old, but there seems to be a lot
of 12-15 year olds who are still in the process of learning how to be
responsible and polite adults. How can we adults set examples for our young
people today if we let go of guidelines and standards??? Is it so difficult
for people to simply NOT "cuss" in public???? Even among what we believe to
be adults??? Or does the act of using these words in public make us feel or
appear more grown up??? Maturity to me means being able to control oneself
when needed. I don't go around scratching every bodily itch when I'm in
public. Some people wouldn't mind. But I don't want to embarrass myself by
scratching certain areas of my body in public. People would look at me like
I'm some kind of degenerate. (no comments on that please ;-"D) My mother
always taught me... "If you can't say something nice, don't say it at all".
Of course this was coming from the same woman who made me eat soap for
cussing when I was a kid. I taught my child to choose NOT to use that kind
of language in public. I taught her that people think it's rude. I can't
guarantee she doesn't use it when she's with her friends. But she does know
how to control it. I've witnessed her stop herself. When we chat on any
online program we somehow lose the controls we normally have. Maybe it's
what virtual reality does to us. The bot serves as a reminder to us all to
remember that there are people there who do not want to hear that kind of
language. Tolerance goes both ways. There are standards for a reason. And
Carlin was right when he said they are "just words". However it's what we
picture in our minds when we hear certain words. What do you think of when
you see something like what I posted earlier???? Am I being narrow minded???

Yep. Guilty as charged. It was disturbing enough to read that quote the
first time without all the substituting symbols. I figured all we needed was
the first letter of the words to tell us what was implied the first time
around. And yes, we all need some practice at thinking before speaking.

they are angry to the point of not being able to think straight or when they
are intentionally trying to show someone disrespect because they are upset
over something or in any number of other very distasteful situations. I'm
guessing that the words with symbols other than letters in them were not
spelled with those symbols by the person you were quoting, but rather
censored to some degree before you posted the quotes. Because of the ways
that such words tend to get used, many of us have learned to think of them
as generally distasteful regaurdless of context because they subconciously
(and often even quite conciously) remind us of such situations and of the
feelings invoked most commonly when such words are encountered. It's a sort
of verbal prejudice, actually and as such we should be careful not to go too
overboard with it, but prejudice used in moderation and examined after the
fact to see if it was best can often keep people out of trouble, so it makes
sense to teach a certain amount of it to children. For example, avoiding
words that tend to be heard in violent situations will not remove all chance
of violence occurring but may very well reduce the likliness of it. There's
also something to be said for thinking before speaking rather than speaking
before thinking. :)

Nor did I. Where I work a lot of inner city folks come to visit. Most of
them are unemployed, young men tween the ages of 18 and 35 who deal drugs on
the street or do them personally. Some would call them "gangstas". They are
concerned with their outside appearance and dress to look cool. However, not
even these young men talk like that. Nor do the drunks that come in. I do
have to admit that occasionally someone will let a word fly every so often,
but when they get the "evil eye" from someone (not always me), they quickly
clean up their language. Unfortunately we don't have the "evil eye" online
and if we did, I'm sure there would be some people who would be offended.
Let's face it, no matter how much you try to please people, someone will be
offended. Time and time again I am reminded of a famous saying... "Do as the
Romans do". Simply put, it means that if the majority of the people do
things a certain way, and you are a visitor, you should also make the
attempt to do things the same way the others do.Yes, there are some folks
out there who grew up saying phrases like "Holy s#!%!!!!" and "Holy
F&^*#!*% MOTHER OF GOD!!!!!!!! " as a second language. But do we say these
things in front of our mothers????? Or in front of our bosses or
teachers???? How about priests??? Not usually. Why not??? Because we
respect them too much to allow them to see the negative side of us. If we
can use restraint during those times, then surely we can use and teach
restraint at other times. Not just to children. It works both ways hon. You
are right, there are people out there who say certain things because that is
how they grew up. But if I grew up with a family who robs banks for a
living, would that make it ok for me to do it too?? Just because I do or say
a particular thing every day of my life, does that make it ok to do or say
in public???? Is it respectable??? Does that make it right??? Is it THAT
much of an effort to control oneself when speaking in front of others????
Sheesh!!! What's wrong with the world today??? It has nothing to do with
what country one is from. Or from what culture. Which culture respects
people who talk like that??? I wanna know. I come from a German background.
I know some people in real life who grew up in Germany. They cuss sometimes.
At times it seems like they don't realize they're doing it. I also have an
aunt whom I love dearly. You'd be amazed at the language that comes out of
her mouth. It makes me cringe for my child to hear it, and honestly it
embarrasses me to introduce her as my aunt sometimes. But she doesnt'
realize she's doing it. Other folks have told her to clean up her mouth. She
tries. Sometimes she catches herself and apologizes. But it usually doesn't
happen till someone gives her a dirty look or says something to her to
remind her. Yes, there are people out there with a problem. They need help,
not allowances.

Don't compare AW with TV hon. The Television censoring committees also
accept the concept of "rape" as being ok to show on prime time TV, but do
you REALLY think its appropriate to show it??? The same goes for showing
someone shooting somebody in the head. Is THAT acceptable??? Sure we as
adults can choose whether or not to allow our little kids to watch that
stuff. We usually know ahead of time or can pretty much see it coming and
can turn the channel to avoid having it seen, or can send the kids out of
the room. However, it is NOT acceptable to most parents of little kids to
have them think they can get away with using that kind of language. While
words like "damn" and "hell" might be considered slang to some people, there
are (believe it or not) a LOT of people who prefer not to use it or hear it
used, not just cus there are little ones present who are reading it, but
also cus it is considered offensive to them. How many of us parents sit
there using AW, visiting friends at the AW Gate area, and their child comes
along and either wants to crawl into Mom or Dad's lap to watch chat and move
their av around, or they come to give Mom or Dad a hug or ask a question but
the whole time have their eyes glued to the AW screen to see what's going on
cus they're being nosey????? And usually during that time somebody comes
along who thinks the word "shit" is everyday language or decides at that
moment to rape Mom's av cus it looks hot????? Not like we have advance
warning to shoo the kids away. They will see it. They will snicker and point
out what was said. (They might miss a lot of things, but they do NOT miss
when someone says a cuss word) Some of them know what the jerk is doing to
Mom's av and make a joke of it. Is that acceptable???? Don't get me wrong. I
know my child can handle the difference tween reading words like "damn" and
"hell" and knowing that she it isn't acceptable language to use to others.
Those words are mild compared to some others in my book. However my husband
grew up in the south in the "Bible Belt". His daddy was a preacher. To him
those two "little" words are just as bad as the others. It is highly
offensive to him to hear anybody in his family say them. I see him cringe
when he hears my insensitive brothers or my foul mouthed aunt talk like
that. I personally prefer not to talk like them. But I am used to that kind
of language from adults in my family. I have to admit though that when I
hear kids saying that stuff, my ears burn. Tolerance goes both ways. I do
agree that if a bot is ejecting people for use of those words, it should
explain to that person why they were ejected and which word it was that got
them in trouble. Perhaps also the reminder that its a FAMILY oriented area,
G-rated, or anything that the ejected person will understand. Especially
since the said person is not mature enough to realize that the word chosen
"might" be offensive to some people.
My 11 year old loves AW just as much as I do. She loves meeting people
from all over the world and is discovering the joys of building. She loves
to watch Mom visit buddies and laughs at all the funny stuff people say.
Especially at the gate area. And she doesn't miss a thing when someone comes
in and says soemthing inappropriate. There is rarely a moment when I leave
her side when she's using AW. And I always make her change her name when
she's at the keyboard, so that people know its her and don't gram me with
weird, inappropriate things. Or I mention to them that she is present. Most
people I know in AW (and I know a LOT) respect her when they know my child
is there. They restrain their language in her presence. And they restrain
sexual innuendos. As much as you claim "damn" and "hell" to be slang, folks
just know not to use it around little kids. At least most folks do. I think
parents are especially cautious. We try to mold our children into
respectable people who, we hope, will learn how to control their behavior
and choose their words carefully. We certainly don't want our children to
upset anyone with their actions. So why can't we set a good example??? AW
has a large population of young people. Mostly teenagers. Would it be
acceptable to allow them to think words like "shit", "damn" and "hell" are
accepted world wide and by all walks of life???? Did your mother teach you
that when you were young???
And just a reminder: people are also ejected for talking about drug use,
guns, politics, and sexual innuendos. Ask yourself why??? Hopefully you come
to the same reason as this particular conversation.

Trust me hon....AWGate is for everyone which is why it is a "Family Rated"
world. All age groups are welcome there, whether you're a tourist or not.
Some of us who like to welcome tourists and help them, like to hang out
there. There is a group of "Regulars" that come and go at the gate. Please
don't feel like you aren't welcome there if you aren't a tourist. ;-"D

And I thought I was the only one seeing the light. Best of luck to you
Chiram or whoever you are in Real Life. May the best of reality make you
smile and may you find wonderful friends to establish a REAL relationship
with. As for me, I will go as far as any cit extensions can take me but I
too will not pay all that money for a virtual reality chat room. It is nice
meeting people from all over the world. It is nice getting creative too. But
what do we really have to show for it all???? I've seen more broken hearts
and egos online than I have in real life. And you certainly can't preserve
what you create online indefinately. Tis more rewarding to create real
relationships and real objects in Real Life. I wish you luck and God Bless
you and yours. ((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((online

Take a valium hon and listen to me carefully and with an open mind. I am not
bashing ANYBODY on any VR sites. Over the years I have made wonderful
friends, some of whom I will consider friends for life. But the majority of
the people I meet are just aquainteces (sp?). With those people, there isn't
much in common and we rarely get to talk about much more than VR building.
Before I had to go back to working Full Time (before I split up with my ex),
I could spend my whole day chatting and building away in VR. To make matters
worse, I would spend precious hours in the evenings online and NOT with my
little girl. I also found myself staying awake night after night until 5am
or later which only allowed me 2 hours of sleep each morning. There were
some mornings I was so exhausted I couldn't even bring myself to take my
child to school. Is THAT a good thing???????!!! I lost about 45 lbs that
year because I was too tired to go food shopping or even make dinner. I
smoked nonstop and went thru a pack and a half each day/night, closed up in
a little room and kept the window open to ventilate, even if it was subzero
temps. I would sit there like an idiot wearing an electric blanket around me
puffing away like a chimney. Now does THAT make sense to you???? Two years
ago when my child and I went out on my own I had to go back to working full
time to support us. I STILL found myself wasting every evening online
instead of with her. She was growing up next to me but I wasn't sharing in
it. Nowadays because she has ADHD and is barely getting thru 6th grade due
to all her incompletes, I have no choice. I have to spend all of my evenings
with her to help her. I don't have ANY time of my own until she and my
husband go to bed for the night. The nights I am lucky to have time/energy
to log onto AW, I get bombarded with questions from people asking me where
I've been, but when I try to explain, most of them start talking to someone
else and don't really seem to care cus they dont' wanna hear someone else's
problems. Most nights I only have time for a 5 minute shower before I pass
out. Hence my husband is now not getting much time with me either. I have to
make a choice. I have to decide who is more important here. The nice people
I meet online and Virtual building???? Or my husband and child???? My
citizenship technically runs out in March. Unless I see that 6 month cit
extension from Beans, I won't be able to afford financially or emotionally
the cost of renewing. I would have a REALLY hard time coming up with a good
excuse to my husband as to why I prefer paying to renew AW over our marriage
and my daughter's time with me. Sure it breaks my heart to only be able to
visit as a tourist and not be able to view my friends builds or build
something of my own. But there is yahoo, AOL, ICQ, and email to keep in
touch with. Not to mention good old fashioned writing of letters and sending
via snail mail. Now then.... NOW do you understand where _I'm_ coming from
and why I'm "babbling" about not renewing?????? ;-"<

Great idea hon but as many here can probably tell you, it IS possible to use
nobody at nowhere.com as an email address. My husband uses it once in a while
and so do I. Cuts down on spam and is acceptable by most websites. If
somebody wants to post porn, I don't think there is too much that can be
done about it, unfortunately, cept maybe people constantly visiting the area
and looking for any unusual signs, etc. Sad I know. ;-"<

I've been a citizen now for about 3 years. I am an artist in real life and I
don't mean computer generated art. I've found enjoyment in building in 3D.
Mostly because I think, it allowed me to be creative in a way I can't
illustrate on paper. I could actually walk or fly around inside my builds. I
could get closer to those objects and on occasion put my "face" up against
them to look at them close up and enjoy the realistic quality of the
textures. I could manipulate walls and panels to make my sculptures look
like nothing anybody has ever seen before. The recent addition of light
effects and color hues, not to mention what is possible with some texture
commands, give more interest in building and sculpting unique structures.
However, I too have felt the limitations of what I can do. Lately I haven't
had the ambition to build cus I've run out of ideas. You can only look at so
many houses or buildings before you get tired of seeing them. I live in a
city. I don't want to visit 3D buildings online. Sure its nice landscaping,
but with the selections we have, there isn't much to use. I'll admit, I
don't know much about Demeter terrain.rwx or bots. But I do have a couple of
ideas that might work to improve things a bit for "everyone". Why all this
talk about Demeter???? Why can't we simply add some larger hills and
possibly a mountain or two to the object list??? I've seen them. I know they
exist. They don't take up THAT much space. Currently the largest object
available is the hot air balloon. That's ok for some hills, but try to build
with that stupid basket sometime. It gets annoying. Or perhaps maybe a huge
sphere object???? Recently I was fortunate to have the opportunity to build
in The Beans which has object rotation. What a joy!!!! I had sooooooooo much
fun with using that command. I found that my creativity was vastly
increased. I felt like I had no limits to my imagination. Will that command
really negatively impact all of the citizens in AW??? I can't imagine how.
It will not improve the interest of the building community again but think
what that will mean to the business end of AW. When people hear that
rotation command is available they will reconsider renewing their expired
citizenships, and perhaps invite their friends to register. AW would no
longer be boring or have to compete with NewAW, There or Peace City. There
would be more support in the community and people would be more willing to
compromise on their needs/wants. We wouldn't need all the objects we
currently have if rotate command was utilized. We could get rid of most of
the slanted stuff cus we would be able to create our own angles. For
example, one particular size boulder is currently available in two
positions: vertical and horizontal. And another example: the quarter piece
of that small hill. We wouldn't need 4 choices anymore. We could get rid of
one or more of those positions. They would be obsolete. Wouldn't that free
up some space on the back up??? You don't have to delete it completely. That
would wipe out a lot of the older builds I know. But perhaps just not offer
it anymore to the building public. Like I stated earlier I don't know much
about the technical things of building. I would appreciate not getting
flamed on this, but would like to know what kind of negative impact those
two suggestions would have on the community. Just a simple builder with some
ideas but open to explanations. ;-")

WHOOOOO HOOOOOO!!! you GO girl!!! And in getting back to topic... this is a
PERFECT example of why political discussions should not take place at the
Gate. It's easy for some people to say censorship at the gate is not
necessary, however I wonder why they never stay long at the gate, if they
visit that area at all. One or two visits there can not begin to enlighten a
person about why censorship is needed. I highly recommend you go at least 4
times a week for about 2 months. Get fully immersed in the whole idea of
what the Gate is all about. And THEN you will understand why censorship is
needed. The whole idea of AWGate is to welcome new tourists and allow them
time and freedom to get to know how to move around a bit. The G rating is to
allow people of ALL ages to visit AW. And yes, children as young as 8 come
to visit with their parents. Not everyone is expecting to see foul language
or sexual content in AW chat. Imagine being welcomed to AW at the Gate,
finding out that it is family oriented and then some idiot comes in and
propositions you to do things to his body??? Not a good impression. Neither
is a political debate, especially now. Whether you berate President Bush,
Saddam Hussein, or the french, you will most likely insult someone. So why
do it in front of people you just met and why do it while in the same breath
of welcoming new tourists to the program????
