Idea for a bot..

Jun 24, 2002, 9:37pm
I cant program, and this may have been done before, but I figured I'd just
throw out the idea for anyone who wanted to make a simple useful bot. The
idea is basically a bot that translates vrt time into whatever timezone
youre in. For instance here could be a sample conversation:

Eric: //time pdt
[Bot]: It is now 10:45pm Pacific Daylight Time

Anyways something like that, just thought it might be intresting. :)

Feb 25, 2002, 7:25am
Ok, every friday I do some babysitting work at someones house, and when the
kid i'm babysitting falls asleep I can use their internet. Thats all well
and good, but theyve got a mac, and I was wondering if any of you knew of a
good newsgroup reader for macs that I could download for them and that I
could use while I'm there.

Thanks,
Eric

Cy Nominations Officially Open!

Jun 24, 2002, 9:10am
I don't get all this paranoia, but I just want you to rest assured that I,
(and I think I speak for everyone when I say) as well as the other members
of the committee (i know a few of them), are in nobody's pocket. I for one
will vote based on which entries I find most deserving by my standards and
by the standards set by the cy awards.. _not_ because someone whom I don't
know starts trying to get me to dislike people. I would greatly appreciate
it if you could, please, sum up this discussion because it seems that
everything there is to be said has already been said, and anything further
would just be flaming.

No offense intended,
Eric

venting about games.. pay litte heed

Jun 25, 2002, 6:19am
My computer doesnt suck. It's most definately not the best thing you can
have, but its got a nice hard drive, some good ram, and a decent video card.
I rarely buy/play new games nowadays, considering that the vast majority of
my net time is taken up by three things: aw, darkages (www.darkages.com),
and working on my website (which will open one day i promise). Therefore, I
spend most of my time at these things, and don't really buy new games
anymore. However there comes a time when I see a new game that I absolutely
love, usually before it comes out, and I follow it's progress, and then I
buy it. This was the way it was for Anarchy Online.. I fell in love with it
on paper, liked it in beta, then was extremely disappointed by it in
retail.. it just wasnt what I expected.

However, I remember how frustrating it was buying the game after beta, and
wanting to tear my hair out because of all the bugs and memory leaks and
whatnot. Now, It's worse; I just purchased the newly released Neverwinter
Nights, which I had been looking forward to because of its great DMing and
level creating capabilities, only to be extremely dissapointed and even more
frustrated by one small little error that prevents any creativity in
campaign editing (the toolkit access violation error with properties). Now
unlike AO, this seems like a great game, but it is just so frustrating how
whenever I seek to add to my small collective pool of multiplayer
experiences, it never works anymore. Come to think of it, I havent gotten a
good, stable multiplayer-capable game since Starcraft... and that was a long
time ago. They're have such great promises and potential, but they work you
up and then get you frustrated as hell with bugs and problems.

I wonder sometimes if its just me and my comp that can't handle this stuff,
or is it just the products coming out, with not enough time put into them
before release? Only thing I know for sure is that they _always_ end up
frustrating the hell out of me.. always.

Frustrated and near giving up hope,
Eric

ATI Radeon 32mb.. not a bad card.. definately not the best. As for war3,
I've been really hyped about that for a while.. but recently it just seems
that like everything else, its gonna be a bit of a letdown. =/

What to look for in a video card?

Jul 3, 2002, 4:38am
Ok, I'm looking into buying a new video card for my comp (i currently have
an ATI Radeon DDR 32mb), but I'm finding myself clueless as to what to look
for in a good card. I mean yeah, the more memory the better, but all that
other technical stuff boggles me to no end. So, what do I look for in a
video card, and does anyone know of any good ones (that are affordable) that
will last for a long time (or at least a long time as computers go).

Taking bets..

How many WTC memorials will be built within the next week?

Winner gets nothing besides an incredible ego boost. :)

Hell, I'll guess 14.

-Eric

Taking bets..

Sep 7, 2002, 1:38pm
I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm feeling as if all these memorials
are because everyone is trying to prove something, instead of everyone
getting together and expressing grief or loss. As for the bets, just a
mechanism to get a point accross. The death of those people is something I
take seriously, but the feeling I get of overpatriotism seems misplaced.
Just my view...

Taking bets..

Instead of replying to individual posts I'll just address what's become of
the entire thread. First of all I regret starting this thread, not because
of what I said but because I gave the flamers a chance to create a hotbed
for the america rox/america sux argument. The reason why I feel so jaded
about all the 9/11 ressurgance is simple: where was this feeling of
togetherness and patriotism before? I believe that as a nation, or moreso
as a global community, we should always be striving more towards
togetherness and unity. But it always fades, big tragedies happen and
everyone gets closer together and patriotic, and then after a few years it
dies off and it's not until another tragedy that it is sparked again. What
kind of patriotism is that? From history it is seemed the only thing
capable of uniting people together so strongly is a common foe.

Goober said, "whether you like it or not, it's going to take a *long* time
until we all get over it", well I sure hope so, cause if not it seems we are
just going to go back to hating each other again. I never went for the
whole uberpatriotism thing, because to me all is said was "america is the
best". Do I think America is a great place to live? Yes, I live there, and
am glad I do. Do I hate America? No, but I do not believe that the people
who live here are any better than any people anywhere else. In fact I would
rather be considered as a citizen of the world working towards it's
betterment than an American fighting for his country.

I remember, as we all do, when 9/11 happened. I wasn't there of course, but
I watched, I spent two days at aw gz relaying all that was going on, and I
was scared and hurt. But afterwards the overall reaction sickened me,
instead of "all these people died" it was "all these americans died",
instead of "we all need to learn to get along" it was "don't fuck with
america". All I saw, everywhere I went, was this feeling of "america is the
best screw you if you dont think so". Could I have taken it wrong?
Perhaps, but that's how I felt.

As for those who died, I can't see them wanting us to dwell on this one
incident, but I can picture them telling us to carry on as we were but with
a hightened sence of unity and working towards a greater peace, for that's
the only thing that can really prevent things like 9/11 from happening
again. On september 11th, I won't raise a flag half way up, I won't wear
red white and blue, I'll communicate. I will talk to people, everyone I can
get my hands on, and talk to them about the world, what they think about it,
and what can be done to help it in any way. And I won't just do this on
9/11, I'll try to do it always, as I always have.

To those who lost family or friends in the 9/11 tragedy, I give you my
sympathies, because someone close to you was lost, and that is always a
terrible thing. To Bush I would merely say I hope he knows what he's doing,
cause I sure don't. And to every person of arab decent who has been
wrongfully discriminated against since 9/11, I wish the best to you, and I
hope just as much as you do that one day we will realize that people of all
race, creed, gender, or sexual orientation can learn to live together
without prejudice or hatred.

I hope this clears up how I feel, as I shall not be posting again in this
thread.

It's easy if you try,
No hell below us,
Above us only sky,
Imagine all the people

Imagine there's no countries,
It isnt hard to do,
Nothing to kill or die for,
No religion too,
Imagine all the people
living life in peace...

Imagine no possesions,
I wonder if you can,
No need for greed or hunger,
A brotherhood of man,
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...
