CP, its because of stupid posts like this (among with other things) that
people hate you, Bots do have to do with Community and Worldbuilders. Lets
see. Without a community to use it; there would be no reason for the bot.
The bot also helps worldbuilders because of its many functions. Now a smart
little NG troll would take a hint and shutup, especially since XelaG and
Baron have been making bots before you were ever on AW. So just incase you
don't know the community NGs are for community related discussions,
ANNOUNCEMENTS, and other misc. community related items.

The lady just for my own personal amusement when you play pac-man do you
email the creaters saying, pacman should be a democracy, where ghosts and
pac-men work together, and it is my right to declare my independance from

Your right, ignorance is never a defense, but ignorance doesn't even come
into question here. Ignorance would be letting the prostitute in the car to
do 'her thing' and then saying you didn't know it was illegal. So the only
remote chance they can find you guilty is if they can prove intent. That you
were meaning to pick her up for a certain reason. Now of course it is almost
impossible to do this. Even if they get the women to lie, just by your
defense that you brought a homeless person all the way to chicago, you
volunteer at a salvation army, and was just looking to help one more person
out, by offering food, you would almost definitly be aquitted right there.
So as long as you can arrange the travel, I am sure that you would even be
able to go into that hearing without a lawyer and still win. The legal
system isn't against you, they almost always give the innocent the benefit
of the doubt :)
Good luck TZ!

prosicution, because ignorance of the law is no excuse, but traveling costs
money. Fortunately, I have looked up the law I was accused of, and know
that I did not do anything even remotely breaking it. As for the evidence,
or lack thereof, the only whitness would be the girl they arrested along
with me, and she knows I'm innocent. Yes, I am concerned about the
possibility that they may offer her an incentive to lie against me, but I'm
hoping that will not happen. I have done nothing wrong, so it would take a
pretty twisted mind in my opinion to stoop to dishonesty in order to get a
conviction. All I was doing is being a nice guy. If I am prosecuted
dishonestly, I will be found guilty of a crime I did not commit, and there
is nothing I can do about it. If I am given a fair trial, they will find
that a mistake was made and an innocent man was arrested.

it until the police brought it up. Neither subject had not been discussed
between myself and the girl I was accused of soliciting prostitution with,
nor between myself any the person I had driven to Chicago, nor between
myself and anyone durring my trip to Chicago, nor between myself and anyone
durring my time in Chicago, nor between myself and anyone at any point in
time between the moment in which I first met the man that I drove to Chicago
and the time I got arrested, nor petween myself any anyone at or around the
time that I met the man I drove to Chicago. I can safely and honestly state
all of this to be an absolute fact without hesitation, because before the
police arrested me and accused me of soliciting for prostitution, the
subject of prostitution was not something that I had ever spent much time
thinking about or discussing with anyone. Also, since I find the idea of
selling or buying sex to be revulting, I would not have entered into a
discussion about it without strong feelings of disgust. Unfortunately,
whether I like it or not, I have to deal with it now. I have nothing
against prostitutes, but I do feel bad for those who feel that they must
allow themselves to be degraded in such a way, and I feel bad that any
prostitute or any other person may ever feel they must participate in the
degradation of others in order to earn money for survival. I did not see
the girl I was helping as a prostitute. I saw her as a person who had asked
about food and may have been hungry and in need.
>
> In case anyone reading this might tnink I haven't made myself clear
enough, I will add the following statement of fact: I have "never" done
"anything" whatsoever for the purpose of prostitution, nor have I ever taken
part in any act or acts of prostitution, nor have I ever intended to take
part in any act or acts of prostition, nor would I even consider taking part
in an act of prostition.

I didn't use AWProxy mainly. What you fail to realize that i have had that
since 3.1 and what would make me suddenly go and use it, I don't know, and a
less prominant version was given out freely by others(3.1 only, not the
3.1/3.2 version), and once john got it, I think EVERYONE got it. Mainly what
I am trying to say, although the encryption has been changed the password
encryption has not. So untill it is changed anyone who has a tiny bit of
knowledge and time, can keep making these lists =\ but then again I really
don't think it is going to be a problem, I don't think many people know how
to get the encrypted op pw to decrypt, and since that list is how old I am
almost positive they haven't figured it out.

Well kah I always try to leave the past in the past, and would like to think
that I moved on from that, and also apologized to the world owners. The fact
is once I started making objects I realized how much work people put into
this, and although I was pushed to the breaking point by some *InSaNe*
person to post that list. I really wish it wouldn't have happened. That is
the past though...not now. I really wish that strike would leave me out of
these coversations and debates, especially when I didn't do anything :(
Either way I hope AW takes some time to change their password encryption to
solve these problems :)

Yes but the law applies completely differant to the internet. This is
seriously like saying, If M A T T did something illegal in ActiveWorlds, and
decided to go play Warcraft III and stayed in there Bruce could sue Blizzard
for harboring criminals. That is completely wrong. You can't harbor a
criminal online. It is impossible, Ecomencher would need to go to matts
house, take him to his house to hide, and then he would be harboring a
criminal. This claim would NEVER hold up in court.

: And your point is? SM cannot be an accessory to crime...think of it this
: way. This guy hangs out in a coffee shop, he pays for meals and coffee
etc.
: but one day he walks out across the street and shoots a guy. Is the coffee
: shop an accessory? NO. Better stop screwing with SM or its owner will
: probably sick lawyers on you. Horny ones at that!

I am clearly no expert in the law. I took a course in Entertainment
Business and Law in college, which could be good or bad... however... I do
believe that an employee of the coffee shop could be considered an accessory
to that crime if they had prior knowledge of the possibility of a crime or
if they continued to serve the customer while knowing he/she was the
shooter. (Anyone have some good links on criminal law? ;-) So do not
discard mrbruce's accusations quite so quickly. I believe he is basing his
claim on one of those two cases. Either a representative of Spiral Matrix
knew of the crimes beforehand or permitted the guilty party to continue
using the SM service despite the knowledge of the aforementioned crimes.
You might be quick to disregard this whole matter as it pertains to a
virtual world. Be aware that violations of end-user license agreements of
software can be punishable by real-world criminal law. While a quick read
through the ActiveWorlds EULA might help... I'm going to run off of memory
and common sense: Tampering with or otherwise abusing licensed software to
the extent of causing diminished quality of service for other licensees and
obtaining unauthorized account access through fraud or theft are most likely
violations of the EULA "signed" by all users of the ActiveWorlds
technologies, whether they be through the primary AW universe or even Spiral
Matrix. Of the parties in question, it is unclear to me (a reasonably
informed third party of sound mind) that any one is guilty of the violations
mentioned above. Yes, it is reported that citizenship accounts were stolen.
Yes, worlds have been taken offline via DoS or other security holes. But I
fail to see any evidence to suspect any of these parties specifically.
However, M a t t did admit to email-bombing mrbruce, among other targets, if
the chat log posted by mrbruce can be verified. NOTE: mrbruce's attempts to
obscure the source of the chat log do give me pause when accepting its
validity at face value. Never the less, email-bombing, along with spam and
other abuse of email technologies, may not be considered illegal as of yet
(that is, pending laws introduced by the FTC), they are very much grounds
for cancellation of Internet access and privilages by most ISPs.
----
(If you are skimming this post, please take the time to read this section.)
What is very disturbing to me is the presence of what may very well be
tantamount to death threats. These should not be taken lightly by any
means. Those of you who may be guilty of such a crime, take pause.
Consider your words as powerful and as binding as the action. You can be
assured that criminal law makes little distinction between the two. People
are still people even if your only contact may be through an email or
newsreader client.
----
In summary, I see a lot of people arguing. I see a lot of hate. I see the
anti-Internet. I always felt that the Internet was about community with
people around the world. True, it has become a great target for commerce
and debauchery (ooh... did I spell that one right?); but at the heart of it
remains the chat rooms, the video games and the virtual communities that
draw together people who might never meet each other by other means. Let us
not tear down what has brought so much good.
The most I would ask any of the parties involved in this dispute is to
extend a hand of future friendship and nothing more. There is no reason
that everything will be fixed in the morning or any pretending that this
never happened, but you cannot begin to come together and resolve the issue
if your backs are turned to each other. Forgiveness is something that I
feel is too infrequently taught and even less often used. So, please, take
this disagreement off of the newsgroups and apologize to each other in
private. Take a vacation from ActiveWorlds if you feel you need time to
heal. The rest of us will be glad to welcome you back to this "digital
fellowship."
P.S. Hugs are optional. ;-)
P.P.S. Typos are unintentional. :-P
P.P.P.S. Moose bites can be pretty nasty.

I believe he just doesn't like getting brought into something he has nothing
to do with, he like you paid a lot of money, and more for his universe, and
doesn't want to be involved with the problems of AW. He loves his community,
and cares for them. When people threaten to sue him for defending his
community and himself against such posts (not from you) saying that his
universe is cracked and illegal, he gets upset. I am sure anyone would, I
know I would. I just wouldn't think too much into this and just let it go,
no need to keep these flames going, no matter how fun they are to read :D
Because no one has a lawsuit against anyone here, except MAYBE against Matt,
so just let it go :)

*sigh* Don't get the file, (as if you didnt know) some people are so stupid.
That is just a packed file, that will install matts trojan. This will shut
down your virus scan, and act when your comp starts up in attempt to flash
your bios. Can't do any better matt? :P
