[NG Survivor] Challenge 2 Results

May 25, 2001, 6:46pm
Well, the week is winding down, and weekend is approaching. You guys have
worked long and hard building a camp (even 2) and getting your votes in. In
the end, one of you will join Chuck's Party out of the newsgroup game. Every
even challenge, however, comes with a choice, a chance to save a life. Let's
get straight to business:

Factor got a REALLY large head start and rally, getting nearly 100 votes
within the first hours of the challenge. Typo quickly recovered, but only to
be crushed once again. Factor wouldn't go down, and would not let Typo win.
But, in some twist of fate, Typo manages to get up one more time after a
brutal fall. Now, Typo would still be losing, for it not for the...BONUS
POINTS...dun dun dun! I'd just like to inform everyone that no one, except
for myself, would be aware of the bonus points unless you were phycic when
reading my last stat update. The tribal building contest played a crucial
role in this. For handing in pictures first, Typo would gain 100 votes. It
would also gain 50 points for handing in the MOST pictures, thanks to a last
minute submission by kellee. 5 random people NOT in the newsgroup were also
polled. Factor tribe would win 300 votes for having the best pictures and
camp. But, kellee's camp site (NOT Wing's however) would take Best Picture
and Best Camp, giving her and her tribe mates 500 points and immunity. In
the end,

1.) Factor's 1510 44%
2.) Typo's 1775 51%
3.) neither 184 5%

Close race, but a good win. Typo wins immunity, Factor wins a free trip to
Tribal Council. Sorry Factor friends, I have to be fair.

Typo tribe, you also win THIS offer. You can accept this offer by ONE OF YOU
replying to me in email before tommorow night. Take a look at the current
poll results, as you see, the option with the highest votes was "5 from each
tribe," regarding about who would make the merger. Typo, pick 5 people from
the Factor tribe, the 5 you think will make it to the merger, preferably.
The other 3 people on Factor will gain immunity. But, along with the names
of 5 Factor members in the reply to me, place 2 names of people on YOUR
tribe you might like to see go to tribal council. Those 2 will also trek to
tribal council, but they will be jury members, voting along with the 8
Factors against one person from the Factor tribe. Remember, if you should
accept this offer, you're giving 3 Factors one step closer to the merger and
winning the game. But also, those 3 Factor members will automatically become
jury members at your NEXT tribal council. Hopefully, you'll make it to the
merger, and those 3 jury votes will never happen. But you never know.
Anyways Typo, if ANY of you want to accept, the first person to email me
with what I need will automatically place Typo into this offer. One last
rule to this offer, you cannot choose yourself as a jury member. Think
carefully however, what might sound good at the begining might not be a good
decision.

Factor tribe, council will begin tommorow. If there is no word from Typo,
you all face the vote. If there is a word, 3 of you will be immune this
vote, but can also vote.

Factor waits out until tommorow to see if word has come out yet if Typo has
accepted "the offer." If they haven't, we all email me the votes, and the
community votes on the site like last time, making 9 votes total, hopefully.
If they have, we still do everything I just said, but 3 typo members also
send in their votes. One of us Factors will be voted off by Sunday. :)

For now, enjoy your potential last minutes on this game and write some
diaries. ;)

Hey Yall

May 25, 2001, 11:04pm
The little preface [NG Survivor] or [NGS] means that the post and the
ensuing thread all have something to do with the Newsgroup Survivor game
we're playing right now. It helps as a warning that the post is somewhat
off-topic and anyone not wishing to waste their newsreading bandwith can
choose NOT to open it. For everyone else, it shows that something is going
on in the game whenever a post is posted.

For more information, go to
http://www.active-worlds.co.uk/survivor/ngsurvivor.html It should clear the
game up if you're still curious. But I think all you were asking for was
what it meant. :))

[NG Survivor] Time to vote, Factor...

May 25, 2001, 11:06pm
Well, Casay from Typo has responded to the offer, and here's what she had
voted for. She would like to see these people make it to the merger:

Kah
Ananas
Leaf
Syntax
BirdMike

Unfortunately, one of those Factor members will NOT last another week here
in the newsgroup Survivor game. Nornny, Gamer, and Alphabit ALL gain
immunity on the Factor tribe along with the Typo tribe. Casay has also
selected three members of her tribe to vote with Factor as jury members:

Wing
Spark
Kellee

You three members do NOT risk any loss in the game, you are simply there to
vote, not to be voted on. Again, the community also gets 1 vote, and through
logging on http://www.active-worlds.co.uk/survivor/ngcouncil.html and
pressing the "Cast your vote" button, you have one chance to vote off a
member of Factor.

Things to keep in note about our 5 castaways up for the council:

Ananas answered incorrectly on the Trivia Challenge.

Leaf has made strenuous amounts of diary entries, which he can use at any
moment to turn his back on someone.

KAH hasn't been around lately.

Neither has BirdMike.

Syntax plays the game a little TOO much.

Good luck on your vote Factor.

[View Quote]

No tourist allowed?

May 31, 2001, 6:57pm
Look, let's put it this way:

With tourists being able to post here, we would statistically grow in huge
proportions. It's bad enough there's barely enough experienced posters to
help out newbies, it takes TIME for newbies to get acquanted with how this
place works.

The newsgroup will look very unclean and unorganized. Considering all
newsgroup, we are extraordinarily tight and responsive. We just wouldn't be
able to help out others in a clean manner with an influx of new tourists.
You would get tourists asking and posting the same thing OVER and OVER
again. most likey headers (through research and experience of other
gaming/chat/ and similar newsgroup that i've been involved in)

1) ACTIVEWORLDS SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!

2) HELP MEEE!!!! (repeated 10 times over)

3) OOPS, SORRY, MY SIS PUT THAT THERE 10 TIMES

4) NO ONE IS STILL HELPING ME!!

5) YOU ARE ALL *** ***** ****, **** OFF

6) STOP YELLLING!!! (in an attempt of a newbie trying to prove he is
supeiror to the other newbies)

Look, I know morally, we're going to hell in a handbasket by not accpeting
tourists, and we're closing our gene pool just a little by doing so too. But
we all take posting in the newsgroup as a priveledge. We pay 20$ to get our
voices heard, and although it doesn't seem like it at times, they do get
heard. By AWCOM, by other members of the community, and everyone else.
Tourists who "refuse" or "aren't ready" to pay 20$ don't neccessarily
deserve it in most cases. They're not "morons" per say, just experienced
users in training. Gotta look at the glass as half full, folks. ;)

If you want to fight for equality for all users in AW in this newsgroup, get
us non-moderated ALL the time. We are now, and look at the flame wars
around. Tourists are not our equal, for the sole reason that they don't pay,
due to various reasons. I think if citizens felt this was unfair, AWCOM
would open it up (they like torturing us like that), but we kinda like our
nice inner society. We LIKE getting new and challenging questions, not the
same ol newbie FAQ questions (such as this one). Plus, there are also
technical and other various reasons why we don't allow tourists. Tourists
are given limited rights to get a "feel" of AW. If you can't fork it, don't
even live your life as a tourist, it would be degrading. Letting tourists
here would just throw away the excitement and neatness of a cit even more.

Don't like the reasons? Do something. ;) But hey, you're asking as if we CAN
just change the rules, when you know we can't.

Nornny

No tourist allowed?

Jun 1, 2001, 8:42am
Well, in the corporate world, the big heads always have a trial to have
users say "WOW, this is cool!", only to be stepped on like tiny shrimps by
regular users (ie cits). It's just the way of life. It even promotes
tourists to become citizens and gain the superiority complex many have
achieved.

As a tourist, they try to make it seem you can "do whatever you want" as a
cit, and the newsgroup is just another ploy. After a fairly small payment of
$20 a year (considering the magnitude of the program), they see it's not all
THAT great, but still worth using.

Anyways, I say we try to get those cits who have been hiding here for years
and never care to contribute because of all the stupidity in here first
before we add any "more" posters.

You need to read the newsgroup charter. Not the Content guidelines, silly.
That deals with content in AW. Tony m will be happy to repost it multiple
times again.

> Therefore is this newgroup an *anything* goes? Then whats the problem with
> tourist being able to post here?

1) it's NOT an anything goes. We ARE moderated at times.

2) A tourists means more hassles for AWCOM in moderating, keeping the server
clean, and all that. For me, I just see arguing and debating like this
TOTALLY wiped out by stupid remarks and posts. Somewhat stereotypical and
ignorant? yeah, sure, I would think so. But look at the tourists and tell me
they aren't the same way? After all, they are jsut beginers.

> As for banning since there are no guidelines how could you ban someone
with
> nothing to show them .

I think the charter states it somewhere that if you misbehave, you can get
banned. It's similar to breaking the Conduct guidelines in AW. Eep has been
banned a few times over, I believe. never helped any, Eep still ended up
winning, but anywho, I'm getting sidetracked.

>Isn't that like arresting someone for going into the
> wrong bathroom when no signs are displayed saying which is which :)
> *shrugs* again

Hey, if you're stupid enough to play the roulette wheel in times of potty,
you get what you deserve. Just do it in the bushes or another bathroom or
something if you need to go that bad.

[NG Survivor] Challenge 3

May 30, 2001, 10:47pm
Two weeks have past...
Two have gone...
Now it's time...
To get your emails done...

Be quick and assertive...
That is key...
To win immunity...
You must get in contact with me...

This challenge is as simple as pie. :) After two weeks of braving the
newsgroup, team morale and assertiveness can either go down, or go up. This
is the challenge to prove which one is which. This is a simple emailing
relay race. Well, as simple as Survivor challenges go. lol.

Each team has 7 members. The objective of this game is to email me IN ORDER.
The first team to email me all 7 emails wins. Communication will bring you
down, or let you pull ahead.

All of you were randomly chosen in order in your tribe to email.

Typo:

Wing
SW Chris
Casay
Spark
Agent
Tony
kellee

Factor:

Kah
Gamer
Leaf
Alphabit
Syntax
BirdMike
Nornny

About me in this contest. Seeing that I'll be collecting the votes, it will
not be fair for myself to email me as soon as I see BirdMike's email. So
here's the catch for me: I must be notified in a separate email or telegram
in AW by one of my teamates to email myself. Should my tribe forget to
inform me, I must sit back and watch Typo win immunity. :( Anyways, here's a
recap of the rules again.

Each tribe has had their order announced.

KAH and Wing are first. Those two MUST email me asap with the subject line
of "[NGS] Challenge 3, My Email" Any other subject line will NOT be accepted
and it must be resent. I will not tell you if you put the wrong header
though, so you must be aware of that.

After they have emailed, they must find a way to contact the next person in
order (ie, Gamer and SW Chris) to email me (nornny1 at home.com if you didn't
know yet). Should someone email me out of their turn, meaning I did not
recieve the emails from the people before them, it will not be regarded.
Should someone mass email me out of order, the tribe will lose immunity.

Whoever finishes the email chain to me will win immunity.

Well, it's either the water or last tribal council, but Factor tribe was set
ablaze in a hasty determination to win immunity this round. Within less than
a day's worth of time and only a slightly rough start, all the members of
Factor had chained email to myself before Wing and Typo could even hand off
their torch. There's nothing more to say than that. KAH would be a little
late in sending his email, but once he did, everyone re-emailed in order and
rushed to the finish line. Factor, you most deservedly win immunity this
time. Typo, tribal council will start early for you tommorow and end on
Sunday. Check the newsgroup for your tribal council instructions on Friday
night. Good luck.

Eep....and his f*cking mouth

Jun 2, 2001, 11:33am
All the links seem to be in place for me, at least the important ones to his
tuturials and philosophies. If you mean links to outside sites, probably, I
didn't check those.

I guess evryone who is new here is so hardpressed on a person's personality
that they forget that you can always ignore the personality, but you can't
ignore the accomplishments. Eep never starts up something unless it's
justified, and everyone ELSE usually goes into a tithy and cause larger
flame wars then we could ever need. Just take his brash advice and never
talk to him again if you must. It's very hippocritical to say that he bashes
people too much, when this whole thread is devoted to getting him bashed.

Eep without his upfrontness wouldn't be Eep. VERY bad without Eep. I mean,
without Eep, nimwits rose in this newsgroup almost 50%. 1 out of 4 of you,
I'm predicting, joined AFTER the Facter/Eep war, and have no understanding
of what went on there.

While YOU complain about Eep, he's constantly knocking on AWCOM's door to
provide new and improved features and not stupid fun stuff like move and
rotate. I mean, none of us has a resume compared to Eep, and none of us has
the right to kick one of the most important members of the community out of
here, unless you think you're just as good as he is. He's hindered and
angered by incompetence, nothing more. We're not here to be nice-nice and
exchange birthday posts. Eep's kind of hardened us to hte reality that this
newsgroup can do something, if we're as upfront as he is. I was quite
disappointed he stayed so quiet and let so many newbies get by so easily so
now they think they can post anything stupid because the charter or some
rule allows it.

I've been an avid Eep supporter. You deserve whatever Eep throws at you half
the time because you replied to him, knowing what he'll do. If you haven't
figured it out, he doesn't HIDE any of his annoyances.

Nornny

PS. This has GOT to be the 10th or 20th debate post this week that has been
debated 10 times over in the past. Does anyone research anymore?

well, if this newsgroup said alt.binaries.community.activeworlds, then I
wouldn't mind HTML posts, but we're not here for binaries and non-text
files. Some of us have bandwith to conserve.

Get off YOUR high horse and see that Tony isn't trying to be any higher than
anyone else. He's just informing people what is proper etiquette in this
newsgroup when no one else is or will.

You seem pretty big yourself when you go out there encouraging people to do
the opposite of what Tony says. Just take the advice or leave it. Don't
criticize it.

REMOVAL of PORN from INACTIVEWORLDS

Jun 2, 2001, 9:45am
I don't get it...

AWCOM DID do something in removing the porn. You said they did remove it.
After they were given notice that porn was available there, they closed the
account and removed the porn objects.

Granted, it takes some times, but hey, it's only an army of a few against
millions of coordinates of lands that they own. Can't get everything done in
haste. If you had never told them, most likely, they would've never known.
They can't really keep track of that stuff really.

especially in the area of diaries. Been kinda caught up, but expect a more
organized website as today goes on. :) Some of the pages are getting quite
hefty.

Typo, welcome to your second trip to Tribal Council. There's nothing new or
any twists with this round of Council. All I need is an email from all 7 of
you with the subject "My vote: <who you want to go>". The address is
nornny1 at home.com like it's always been. Write a little confessional at the
bottom if you see it fit.

Anyways, keep this in mind:

S p a r k has returned and is rearing to play. But will this tardiness cost

Wing's email problem might've been the cause of Typo's immunity loss this

The bots newsgroup is far from dead, it is read very often. If they can't
help you, try the worlds beta and other bot worlds to get some one-on-one
help. I mean, why don't you try thinking every once in a while too. This
community newsgroup is cluttered enough as it is, and out of ALL the Preston
users out there, you can't seem to find any in AW or in the bots newsgroup.
Amazing. I mean, it's one thing if you need help here and it's a real bot

mess?

Jun 3, 2001, 11:32am
Are you trying to get us or something?

First off, no one responded to Mike's post because it was just as off topic
as all of your posts. We've told him many times that bot questions should be
answered in the bot forum. Even so, we helped him anyways, and now he thinks
he can just post bot questions in a community newsgroup. Which is a nono.
I'm sure he understands that and will get the hint eventually.

And what radical movement made you try to PROVE we're hippocrates? Are you
so angry at this newsgroup that you just have to start something every
single day? Then, you complain about us being mean and hostile. Look at
yourself first. You're just as much of a hippocrate. If you want things to

Above what? I assumed it was the post above you, which also got no comment.
I had to look at what wyzard said to even get what was a big deal here.

Your first post didn't get a response. Well, that's obvious. IT DIDN'T NEED
A RESPONSE! It was just a plug, silly. Why would we go responding to plugs
and waste our bandwiths saying "cool, I'll check it out" or "who cares"

And still once again, you still don't seem to even care, as a typical newbie
poster does, that you're just wasting space and time posting silly charade
posts to get us to prove you a point. Did it ever occur to you that we NEVER
cared if you can prove us as hostile and resentful? We know we are, you just
can't deal with it for some unexplained reason.

Just grow up and stop trying to go "see! I told you so!!" You're not getting
much hits to your AW site by trying to create peace and love, but causing a
riot in this newsgroup while doing so.

Why is there so much hate here?

Jun 3, 2001, 7:27pm
Well, it's okay that you don't agree, we all do, especially regarding Eep.
You came into the newsgroup, I believe, at a fairly quiet time. A lot of you
newbies did. I don't think you have yet to see Eep's helpfulness, just his
angriness. We do need Eep, not all the time, but we do. And he's not
perfect, like everyone else, but he's usually justified in flaming a newbie
for lack of common sense. He doesn't look for millions of people to reply to
his flame, they just do, I guess. :)

I dunno, stick around for as long as you can, Eep might be his regular self
again. That Facter thing really silenced him for a while, and it was quite
disparaging. Crazy as it might sound, a lot of us here who's been here the
longest do need Eep. Not neccessarily LIKE Eep, but you don't have to like
someone to respect him.

If you're dying to understand Eep, I SERIOUSLY suggest you look at past
posts he's made, his bitter tirades, and all that. He really does have
something to say and he says it, unlike the lot of us, who really just
complain. :)

Sorry guys, quick post. Just wanted to say that Tribal Council will not be
tonight but rather tommorow, as soon as I recieve one more vote, from either
Casay (who already voted, but voted for herself, which is NOT allowable) or
kellee (who has yet to vote). Also, the community vote is tied between two
people, which isn't a problem, but if someone would like to break the tie,
or add someone to that tie, log onto
http://www.active-worlds.co.uk/survivor/ngcouncil.html and do it quick! :))

I'm sure this time you'll be just as surprised as who might go out of Typo
as last week, when Ananas left.

Nornny

Time for you newbies to do some homework

Jun 4, 2001, 5:03pm
Get off your high horse?? You wanted someone to address you about this
situation, and who better to do then from AWCOM's tech support??

I mean really, is it OUR fault that the community can't do anything about
your porn problem? Can we seriously do any more than tell you what you
could've done and what to do next time? The past is the past, you know what
to do now. :)

I can't believe though that there were so many options clearly available if
you just checked the Activeworlds site (where you should've immediately gone
if there was a problem you couldn't address).

AWCOM CAN'T solve all of your problems, they're not here to be your personal
caterer. Emails get lost or disregarded, there are bigger issues out there.
Kids WILL get into porn on the internet, and in AW. You should be happy that
they are relatively safe in AW from porn ads and spam. Things happen that we
can't control, kids will eventually bump into one if they're not careful. We
can't stop that, and kids should've been aware of that risk when they agreed
to use the AW program. You don't press the "I agree" button if you disagree
with it, silly, although I know most of you do.

AWCOM can't take the responsibility of thousands of users, not all at once
at least. They do their best to remove it. If it doesn't happen, it's too
bad, but it's NOT their fault. Even if they say they will remove it and
don't, it's still NOT their fault. You're blaming the wrong people here. Go
to the source and try to take action against who posted the porn. You won't
get support from a company who has to support thousands of other users, as
we here caught on to. :)
