Hi everyone :o)
I am configuring a Xitami server to host op's to coincide with the worlds I
also host.
Have looked for this error code and believe it is related to an http error
in my setup config, but cannot find description of 1403.
Any techies out there who can help?
Thanks,
LJ

Hi :o)
Go to start, run and type in netstat -an 1 and a DOS box will pop up that
shows all IP's connected to you and the status of the connect.
Handy little tool and requires no xtra programs installed. Also good to
keep running in the background if you suspect you are under attack.
You can pause the scroll, copy and paste if you see something suspicious
(keeping in mind that AW uses 5670 and 7777 ports).

Hi :o)
Over the last 5-6 years I have maintained my grown children's Dialup ISP
accounts as Christmas presents, etc. and have paid by credit card.
Last summer my prime credit card company had their server compromised and
they issued me a new credit card number. During this time I also *bought
down* several other credit card accounts for a lower interest rate and was
issued new account numbers.
I phoned all the ISP services with the information and was told that the old
cc numbers would not be on my account records or on their dbase and got an
authorization code to this effect.
Received 2 bills today (identical), except one had the cc# from the account
that was closed June of last year. Thankfully this account is maintained by
a family oriented Credit Union I have been a member of for almost 20 years.
The charge was for a magazine subscription. My daughter was online in her
dialup and signed up for a 3 issue free trial for this and when the trial
time expired, they auto billed any Credit Card number that popped up
relating to my ISP accounts. (don't blame her cause I have done the same
thing).
After a total of 5+ hours on the phone to 5 companies (mostly on hold), much
to my dismay discovered the ISP's not only had a record of all my outdated
CC numbers, but that they revert to them at will.
Guess you would like to know the point of this story :o)
If you are paying for internet service using a Credit Card, keep track of
what you sign up for..... most especially trial offers and expect problems
straightening it out when the trial period is up, or as was the case in this
situation, being billed before the trial period is expired :o)

Yup! Tried to renew my Classic today and searched for the link to do that
and it is no longer there :o(
Don't mind making the phone call ("mind your pennies and the dollars will
take care of themself") but is this necessary?
Dialing into AW would be an added expense, especially from overseas.
Sincerely hope you change you mind and with a little luck the renew Classic
world link will be up and running again before the 24th :o)

My concerns are the price increases to come (not mentioned) in the long
newsletter that for some
strange reason was not sent out to user via email, but masked in a IO
message?
How many merchants put a product on the shelves without a price tag
attached?
That is exactly what is happening here.
When the 3DHomepages went into action and the owners had no idea what the
cost would be until a few days before renewal that was almost unforgivable,
but realized it must have been a rush job so blew it off.
Now we are hit with a 1 day notice for tourists (at least with some info
about costs/500% increase)
and a month alert to current citizens with no details on cost?
This is akin to price gouging/war profiteering during a time when we have a
very untidy real world to cope with.
Protests, coups and rebellions and a whole lotta very angry good people in
VR should not be an issue, but due to the way this was presented to us it is
a real mess.
What I am not reading in the *non standard* sent newsletter are what will
the world costs be, will the citizenships associated with worlds be
affected, etc.
If AW is able to pull this off my suggestion would be to hire a Marketing
expert and a PR professional (not just programmers) to keep the community
that may or may not still exist informed in a timely and honorable manner
about changes.
Work with us Rick :o)
We are not children and do not like to be treated as children.
I am confident that most citizens would be up for an increase, but not of
this magnitude.

"uni-" does not imply possibilities or impossibilities, the prefix means
one, but this is by no means implying exclusivity (as in "only"). There
could be infinite universes, each a separate singular entity. A universe is
an enclosed system to be sure, but not necessarily the only enclosed system
in existence.

Going to assume you mean the data21 account?
If that's the case, how were you able to log into the ng's? :o)
Email support at activeworlds.com with the addy you had under cit options, the
real life info you gave when you registered and the type of credit card you
used (not paranoid about sending mine in email to support) .. lol.. but if
you choose not to do that then just send the last 5 numbers on it.
Hope it goes well for you and when you are able to get back in do change
your pass (make it at least 8 characters with a combo of letters, characters
and numbers). Most pass scrambling fools won't waste the bandwidth to spend
20-30 hours deciphering it :o)

Learned the hard way that if anyone in AW *gives* you anything, ie: world,
citizenship they are still the owners and also have the responsibility of
the worlds, accounts and can retrieve them at their choosing :o)
By responsibility, the owner of any accounts/worlds that they choose to give
away will be liable for any illegal acts committed even if they are not at
fault.. (something to ponder).
I have given many citizenships away or bought them for friends, neighbors,
etc., but also am cautious about the person's behavior before I sign on the
dotted line.

Actually the ISP I was talking about is reputable :o) *will not mention
company names*
Is the same ISP that a few years ago kept overwriting the phone companies
servers when I cancelled their fantastic long distance package.
That fiasco took several months to clean up and the phone company finally
put a vice grip on my account to keep them from shoving the service of my
choice aside.
Just cause they are reputable doesn't mean they won't use strong arm tactics
to force you to keep their promo deals against your will :o)
My problem is why in the heck would they not delete an old, closed Credit
Card number after they have been given the information to do so *replaced
with a new #*, and after giving the customer an auth code # to confirm it is
gone?
One reputable ISP, not the one mentioned above, still hasn't cancelled my
account with them and they keep trying to charge my closed CC account every
month :o)
Sooooo, at the end of every month I call them and my old Credit Card
customer service dept. to report it again... lol... <-----have gotten in the
habit of doing this and possibly would miss the monthly farce.

Finally got to the bottom of the mess with the outdated, expired CC being
billed :o)
The magazine ordered via 3 Free Trial issues is a company affiliated with
Time magazine (owned by Time Warner).
The ISP pleaded the 5th when I asked if their company scans registries for
Credit Card info if a trial offer expires and has not been cancelled and the
also pleaded the 5th.
Contacted the NIPC (FBI computer crimes division) and reported abuse, just
in case and guess what?
When I called the magazine company again and relayed that info to them was
then told that .... yes... in fact... they do scan your registry for Credit
Card numbers to use for billing.
The really odd thing is my daughter bought a new PC last fall and did a
clean install from a new disc of the ISP service......*things that make you
wanna say hmmmmm*... lol
If these posts are annoying folks I apologize, but felt it was good info to
have and an alert to not give out credit card info for any trial program.
BTW, I only use this ISP for a backup in case cable goes down :o)

*fingers itching*
Just had to take this window of opportunity to thank Roland for all that he
has done over the years to protect our op's :o)
Still remember when all models, etc. were displayed and available in
anyone's cache.
Roland set out on a mission to mask them and to date only seq's and textures
need some work.
I know, I know.. there ARE ways to get around the ie: RAS files, but am
speaking for the average user who chooses not to spend endless hours on a
fools errand trying to figure out how to screw things up.
Thank you Roland

AW Prime is like the corner Pub :o)
Seems like when restaurants and bars do a complete makeover or expand the
club at the end of the street, the patrons disappear.
I do agree the GZ is an eyesore but look at how many people pass thru there
every day.
Just like the tourists being gone ... we ain't got nuttin to gripe
about..... lol

> Whoa! :-) I usually agree with your ideas, kellee, but not on this.
Granted I've become very discouraged with many of the business decisions AWC
has made. As I've told you before, as much as I love building in this
program (and on Alphaworld in particular) I could uninstall and walk away
from all this, including my buildings on Alphaworld, without a backward
glance. However, as long as the activeworlds program exists (and I hope it
will continue a long, long time) I really would not want to see Alphaworld
closed to continued building.
>
> Some see "eyesores" and "rubbish" all over Alphaworld. I see creative
things still going up on Alphaworld constantly. Alphaworld is vast enough
to hold it all. 99% of Alphaworld is still bare land, or so I've heard.
>
> Alphaworld is still the public building world of choice for most builders
who don't own a world themselves. And why is that? Maybe it's precisely
*because* of the eclectic mix of objects and textures (old, new, newer,
newest) that people can choose to build with. Maybe it's the sheer size of
the world - big enough to hold both rubbish (eyesores to some, unique
virtual history to others) as well as beautiful work (again, in the eye of
the beholder). Even after all these years and many other "prettier" worlds
people could choose to build on, Alphaworld continues to "live, breathe and
grow" very vigorously.
>
> To me, Alphaworld holds a unique place in a very unique program. As the
first, oldest, and for quite awhile, "only" world, *all* of Alphaworld is an
*ongoing* virtual "historical" event. I personally have always felt that
"rubbish" on Alphaworld should be left intact - not "cleaned up" as so many
have called for so many times.
>
> If Alphaworld is a drain on the resources, then "community" is a drain on
the resources, too. The existing builds by "Tourist", NAC, and by hundreds
of expired cit names/numbers all over Alphaworld, even if the build consists
of nothing more than a couple of overlapping floors or a sign saying "So and
So was here", ALL are part of the history of this most unique program.
>
> I know you are not saying delete them, kellee. You are saying just close
down Alphaworld to continued building. Let people just "bot" their builds to
another world if they want to. (I would not.) Certainly AWC could open up
yet another public building world and promote it as the "main" public
building world. Anyone who wants to "move on" to another public building
world can sure do that. But you know what? I'll bet Alphaworld would still
remain the most popular public building world, no matter what. AWC could
even go so far as to hide the world name "AW" from the worlds list, take it
off the teleport gate, not ever mention Alphaworld again. But as long as
Alphaworld exists for public building, I'll betcha' the majority of people
(new registered people, too) who don't own a world will find their way there
to build...on good old Alphaworld, warts and all.
>
> You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink. If the day
ever comes that public building is disabled on Alphaworld, that will be the
last day I doubleclick the Activeworlds icon on my desktop.

Here's how ppl can keep track of what they wrote in grams *a royal PIA*
sometimes :o)
Type your message, copy it, send the gram.
Type a gram to yourself, paste what you sent and add gram to: John Doe then
send.
