That seem to be a valid point there Hal9000, people see what other
"Community Long Timers" conduct them selves and see this as the "norm".
I personally consider that anyone in any position in the community should
always set an example of how to conduct in either the forums or within the
environment.
Its a case of leading by example.
I do not consider bad grammer or spelling any great point if the argument if
there. This is not a newsgroup for acedemic excelence, its one where people
regardless of education, background, race or any other group can have a say
on issues relating to the subject of that newsgroup without fear of
intimidation.
As you state, when people are allowed to post flames and intimidation it is
sadly seen as the excepted, also this can be seen as a reflection of the
total system of Activeworlds by those who will read the newsgroup and are
not a member, after all this is a public newsgroup that anyone can read.
Personal conflicts have no place in newgroups.

lol I prefer a more direct method instead of Webster's terminology and ask

This way it avoid all the confusion and self diagnostic interpretations over

Personally anybody that has spent time and money making something for all
the aw community to enjoy and play, and in this case perhaps be a recipient
of a prize deserve praise. How many of the people that shout and scream have
put their money where their mouth is?
Regardless if its a one man business or someone starting out in business its
brought something legal that can make aw more interactive and brings people
into aw, I say well done and give the guy a break and time to improve.

I know at many time I hear that teen/young adults are a pain, cant agrue
without reuslting to vulgarities.
We have seen them shouted at, insulted and told to keep out of NG's
But when i read some of the input in some threads they show a responsiblilty
and reasoned input that some "older members" could take a leaf from their
books.
All the younger people I have had dealings with have shown respect and
interest.
Well done for showing the way.

It has always surprised me that many protagonists of threads in this
newsgroup profess to be educated and respectable members of a community, I
have seen many good points raised for discussion and debate.
As with many newgroups there is always some that cannot debate or discuses
without taking it to the "personal" level and from observations activeworlds
newsgroups are no different then many others. If people cannot contribute to
any discussion with resorting to taking it to the personal only makes people
consider the possibly of perhaps hiding facts or the facts stated or true
and will try to discredit the protagonist through personal attacks.
If members of any community feel threatened by this it is a sad reflection
of structure of any community where the freedom of speech is restrained only
by fear of flaming and ridicule. A community is one where all have a right
to be heard, all have a right to voice opinions, all have a right to debate.
When I observe disapprobation about events or about a structure that has
been in existence to receive sarcasm and personal attacks only brings about
questions as to the organisation (no matter what organisation it is) and its
people.
But then from what I have seen it is a very simple process in many groups to
insult, riducle and threaten someone your would never do in a face to face
situation.
If my memory is correct I beleave Flagg himself said "No personal attacks"
in the newgroups.

Would be nice in a cyawards debate to have some legal represenative insteed

Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be
in silence.
As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull
and ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons;
they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for
always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble, it's a real possession
in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs,
for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue
there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full
of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about
love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantement, it is as perrenial
as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of
youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not
distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and
loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of
the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be
here.
And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as
it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life,
keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it
is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

Hi all, firstly this is not any attempt to start any flame war or anything
else. This is just a observation from recent discusions.
I am wondering how many people support anyone that would conduct themselves
in any fashion that results if revenue been lost for aw.inc?
We all know the situation this year that resulted in price increase and been
delisted from Nasdaq.
The point is should revenue be lost by reason of people or person conducting
them selves that result in lost worlds and members?
If people conduct themselves that result in lost worlds/cits this is
destructive to the very community as at the end of the day it all helps to
mantian the sustainablilty of the software.
Yes discusions for and against some topics may not be to everyones liking,
but from some follow up postings some cannot leave a topic in the newsgroups
and proceed to follow it into the Universe.
To me any person that proceeds to follow on with any hate campaign does not
support the success of the Universe, quite the opposite, it is destructive.
Yes I know this happens from personal experence, but its water of a ducks
back to me.

True, I used it as a example to reflect changes made this year, perhaps when
people where panicing (some) many unfound fears and rumours where been breed
like the easter bunny.
I'm glad its back in someones hands that cares 100% for the software, not
saying it never was.

As I submitted in another thread the point of discussion what is deemed a
rating for a world by members is irrelevant.
In the end it is what is rated by a professional body. I know all good
intent is meant by the thought's as to what a world should be rated. This
way a specific guideline can be applied to a world rating system.
There is some good site's on the Internet :
http://www.esrb.org/online_about.asp
And in a more simple explanation:
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/misc/rateguide.htm
The later been a official Government site with easy to understand ratings
for web sites and games.
Hope this helps

Well I think there is a case for Uncle Enzo to create a new newsgroup for
all those world owners that wish to advertise their events.
Then all can advertise to their hearts content their activities.
