Perhaps you should tell us what the US needs to do to change, as you put it.

Oh... btw would these plans somehow involve bringing one person to power
who's going to unite the world into a one-world nation after one
super-terrible event happens that has people screaming for peace? That's
what I'm hinting at with this Illuminati business. =P
All I can say is... bring it on. I probably won't be around to see it

Spoiled. That's what you are. Is your idea of treating users fairly to let
them do whatever they want to do as long as it doesn't get in the way of
someone else doing what they want to do? The very notion is insane and
counter-productive.

Nothing about Microsoft Agent there. It's not a sound issue per se. The
Agent's mouth doesn't move like it always did when he spoke. All my other
sounds work correctly, so it's not a driver problem.

To my knowledge, the only planets found via the Dopplar effect are huge gas
giants. There's some explanation out there why not solid planets have been
found yet. I think it's something like a solid planet is has too small a
gravatic mass to detect with the dopplar effect.

If I may make a point. Sounds cold-hearted, but since it's my taxpaying
dollars going to keeping these killers fed and clothed, I say kill em off.
Big I digress. On a more less-selfish point, when you commit a crime that
is the taking of another human life (or more), I think the old saying "an
eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth" applies.

If you'll do a little investigating, you'll find out that many of Bin
Laden's speeches/messages to the world have something to do with something
that occurred back in 1921, as he keeps saying they've been under the yoke
of American imperialism for 80 years. What that refers to, I'm not exactly
sure, but it would have been during the presidency of Warren G. Harding, so
apparently the recent terrorist actions have roots that reach back a long
way. What any of that has to do with Bin Laden, who was not alive during
that time, is anyone's guess. One of the really weird things about Bin
Laden is that almost all of his immediate family (who are fairly well-off
and very well educated) resides right here in the U.S. They've long ago
disowned this fellow from their family, and condemned his actions on
numerous occasions, but, as you can imagine, his actions have made their
lives a living hell as well. And no, I'm not forgetting the suffering and
loss of the people whose relatives were on those planes or in those
buildings that were destroyed in NY, DC, and Philadelphia. I know that
they, too, continue to suffer and mourn the deaths of their friends and
relatives, and that they, above everyone else, deserve to see justice done
with regards to the terrorists who perpetrate these sorts of incidents.
|
As far as prisons, the courts, and the death penalty goes... the European
Union has, as a body, unanimously condemned the death penalty as a
punishment for any sort of crime. They seem to have trouble understanding
why we here in the United States have no trouble with keeping the death
penalty as a punishment. To their way of thinking, we're supposed to be one
of the more advanced-thinking countries, and yet we continue to perpetuate
what they consider a backward mentality. Our use of the death penalty puts
us on a list of countries that includes Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Cuba, etc.
Is that the sort of company we wish to keep? *shrugs* Russia is currently
at the top of the list of countries that routinely use the death penalty,
the sheer numbers of prisoners killed there is outrageous, and yet our own
numbers of prisoners, our increasing numbers of prisons, and our use of the
death penalty will shortly rival theirs. Has this method of dealing with
crime and criminals been very effective? I'm not certain it has, and I have
no idea what method would work better, but it seems to me that what we're
currently doing isn't going to lead us into a world where we can "all just
get along."

It gives some background information about the goings on of 1921, it also
explains fairly well "Why We War" (which is the topic of this thread).
What do I think? I think many (note, I did not say ALL) Americans are
completely unaware of anything that goes on outside their front doors, they
rely on what they see on television, in the newspapers (if they bother to
read those), and they desire to be spoon-fed pabulum by the mass media (who
doesn't, btw, tell us everything, they only tell us what stories they think
will Sell). What Sells is not reality, what Sells is entertainment.
Do you remember the Nirvana song "Smells Like Teen Spirit"? In it Kurt
Cobain is expressing this idea that we Americans do not actually take the
time to understand and absorb the feelings and ideas that are important, but
that Generation X has numbed itself to what is really going on in the world.
He strove as an artist to wake people up to Really Living, to Feel with
their hearts and minds, instead of accepting that spoon-feeding. The song
was a statement... "here we are now / entertain us". Because he could not
reach through that numbness and make us see clearly the reality of the
situation, he became despondent and he killed himself. That's what that was
about. And that's what my post was also about.... trying to make people see
things for themselves.
What do I think? As a former "warrior" and disabled vet, I think war should
be the very last choice a nation should make and, only after all attempts to
resolve a problem have failed should it be undertaken, and then it should be
undertaken for very good reasons (and not just retribution) and then a
full-out, full-bore war should be fought until the situation is resolved. I
think the media and the politicians have attempted to paint the picture that
part of the reason that we are now in this war against Terrorism is for
humanitarian reasons... human rights, for example. Clearly, that is not a
motive for this war.
A look back over just the past ten years of the history of Afghanistan will
show you that the Taliban was put into place with U.S. money, aid, and arms,
streamed through Pakistan, because we thought the Northern Alliance (who was
the previous government) needed to be ousted from power. Russia has
everything to do with what is going on in Afghanistan today, and from what
I've been reading, they've already made a deal with the Northern Alliance to
build a post-war oil pipeline right through Afghanistan to secure themselves
a mideast oil supply. Look into that. Look into what the real motivations
for this war are. Don't ask to be entertained.

Ok. You've got Russia's motive. What's the United States' motive?
Britain's motive? Pakistan's?
I think the US's motive is humanitarian in nature. Perhaps with a bit a
revenge thrown in, but humanitarian nontheless.

The song

Ooo... low blow. More European elitism. Ich. Europe is no better than the
US. Likewise the US is no better than Europe, all you super-patriot's. ;)
How can the age of a country be a factor in their maturity? Look at China,
Afghanistan, Vietnam? Cuba. Mexico. Etc, etc, etc.

Sound ideas to me. Perhaps running around to all the awcom worlds and
changing their world messages like it used to be done is the best way to do
it.

Um, I think that's going a bit too far on the politically correct side of
things. Who's going to be offended by someone announcing a birthday? One
or two people who are full of themselves and self-important, but certainly
not a substantial number.
Flagg, you continue to announce birthdays with the Uniserver message. I
dont' mind. And I'm pretty sure nobody else here does, either ;)

But the government isn't killing indiscriminantly are they? :) It's a form
