Look at this wing.... We're sooo sorry Internal Affairs that we aren't as
financially well off as you. And in fact, some of us that you are referring
to as children are indeed legal adults in charge of their own monetary
capital and also have things like tuition to take care of? Like me. In
fact, I just upgraded to a 733 mhz processor in February, when it was new on
the shelf in my neck of the woods. So be careful who you insult. You seem
to be awful at that sort of thing.
And figure out what "today's standards" really means. Just because your
friends may waste money on the fastest processors that none of today's
applications take advantage of doesn't mean that slower ones are yesterday's
news.
And just becuase someone has a differing opinion of something than you do
doesn't mean their wrong. Figure it out guys. Come on. Why do I even post
anymore? <ego>Oh.... right. I'm trying to make a difference. *sigh*
Being a leader is so hard these days... </ego> =P

In 3.2, AW loads everything to your visibility limit loads when you're
moving. In 3.1 when you move, objects only load when you're 10 meters away
from them. Then when you stop it all loads together. Lot of things to
render = slower Fps.

Well... every time I start 3.2 my visibility is set to Floating each time.
And each time I have to set it back to 120 meters so it doesn't lag me so

I don't know about the Santa Cruz... but that SB Live Value... wasn't hte
"value" part the sacrificing of the wav table midi synth and other features
to keep the price down? I have an SB Live! regular card and the midis sound
as good as they did on 3.1. I don't think the older cards had very good
midi definitions on them either.

You need to set up Active Worlds in this version. Go to Options-->Settings.
Select the Video tab. Either Direct3D, OpenGL, or software renderer will be
selected. One of these will probably make everything work correctly. The
other two probably won't. If none of them work, reply here again.

Software renderer mode is basically 2.2 with lights, move, and rotate
commands. If that's slowing your computer down, either something's wrong or
you need to get a faster processor.
NOTE: One thing that could be slowing 3.2 down is that you may have your
visibility set to 200 meters. Turn it down to your old visibility in the
Settings menu. Do not use the Visibility drop-down box. That is only for a
quick change. Any changes you make to your visibility limit will not stay
if you close the browser and reopen it.
JPG and BMP files in the cache have been "converted" to .ras since at least
3.0. Change the extension to jpg or bmp to get it to open up in an editor.
And as far as skyboxes go.. they were never meant to be set by the user,
only the world owners. I think some confusion was created when someone
posted here saying they wanted 3.2 to let the average user set the backdrop
and not the world owner.
Lastly... if you haven't read the help files, please do so. :)

Yeah, I messed up there. Haven't a clue. AW uses a proprietary RAS format
I think... I tried opening it up and Paintshop Pro and it didn't work. Why
do you want to look at the textures anyways?

I've heard of it, but banality doesn't pass for sarcasm these days. I guess
I got you a little rattled... hit a raw nerve, did I? *smirks*
So, tell me, Mr. eep, just how much time, money, or computer hardware did
you donate to your local public library, or your local public school system,
in the last 5 years? Do you just talk the talk, or do you really walk the
walk? Inquiring minds want to know.
> Second, if you can't keep up with computer advances you shouldn't be using
software that utilizes them. It's that simple. You don't survive very long
in the computer industy by using obsolete hardware. <shrug>
*laughs* I was a computer operator before there was even such a thing as a
monitor, keyboard, or a mouse. Hardware isn't everything, kind sir, but
likely you've relied on it for so long, you've grown accustomed to your
crutches. Poor thing.
> Evolve or die, twit.
As far as evolution goes, I'm certainly way ahead of you on that score, Mr.
eep. *winks*
There aren't many people around who could keep a P166 with W95v.1 running
for 5 years and running the latest software on it. Obviously I am doing
something right, so apparently I'm not such a twit after all. On the other
hand, were you as hardware poor as I am, I doubt you'd even be online or
find your way into Usenet... but then... perhaps that wouldn't be such a bad
thing, hmmm?
Aine
(*I have no doubt that Mr. eep will never let someone else get the last word
in. And yes, dear readers, judging from the emails and TGs of support I've
received from many of you, I can hear your applause from all the way over
here.)

Aine, welcome to the Filtered-by-Eep club! That was sooner than I thought.
:)
Really eep... why are you deflecting those accusations by zeroing in on
Aine's intelligence level? As far as I know, computer donations are not the
government's responsibility. There is a reason why non-profit goodwill
organizations exist.
Perhaps you should reevaluate some of your values, because you seem to be
increasingly egocentric.

Odd... your system should work fine. Go into your Multimedia control panel,
and on the audio tab, try to select a different MIDI output device. See if
that helps.

Ok... maybe you're right. I shouldn't have tried to involve everyone in it.
The fact that this has been going on for six months and there's been no
public outcry (zero, zilch, nada), and the fact that this guy is as slippery
as a banana (and you guys bought his bs answer) got me frustrated. I don't
respect him because he won't answer a simple question with a simple, direct
answer. Maybe I can get him to come on Talking Points or something, where
it'd just be the two of us. You know me, always jumping into the nitty
gritty stuff.
BTW, there's this thing called a privacy policy that most companies have to
protect their customer's identity. I doubt AWC would hand over Just In's
records to me, or even his name for that matter. Either way, this public
servant is screwed.
