For those looking for a cheap C++ compiler... typically, you can get=
great
discounts by one of three ways:
(1) EDUCATIONAL DISCOUNT PRICES: Walk into educational bookstore=
near a
university, wearing student attire. Sometimes student ID even asked for.=

(2) COMPETITOR UPGRADES: Example trade in your old DOS/WIN Borla=
nd C+ (or
whate'er) towards MS VCC+ or even Dev Studio. (Not promoting anything he=
re...
just relaying factual example.) Check online sites for details.
(3) CONSIGNMENT SHOPS: Computer or book shops have decent finds.=

Help with AW SDk and VB5

Oct 7, 1998, 1:37am
I am trying to make things simpler for VB5 as well.... too many things on the
project pile... but making slow progress.... you know how nothing works until
completed. <shrugs>

OK, ppl.. here's my situation.... since an accident did me in and gives me
lots of time to either find something to do or go crazy.. I have ben working
on several programs and projects related to the AW/OW environment.
Why does this matter? Because I program well and like challenges. If I
post programs here to assist with AW, such as catching URL, etc.... would
anyone care to beta-test them? Of course, I would release source code, since
most are rightfully paranoid about hackers, etc.
I have been trying to follow the wishlist ng for a while and compile list
of things that I have not already started to address. Basically, I would need
a concise set of things to make and if ppl are willing to beta-test them when
the time comes.... if ppl seem to respond well to this, I shall soon set up a
webpage to register for beta-testing and get basic system info.. to know what
I might be dealing with <hates Win98,btw>.
If anyone is interested.... might someone help compile a list of
features? I do not desire to read the 1400 posts in this ng to get the whole
picture. Many thanks.

Jumping... 'standard' or customizable jumping for distance, height, and
repititions?
One thing from the list to be added is to warp to a new elevation, same position
otherwise.... That is part of the setup that allows you to choose a compass
direction for moving, etc.

Offline building

Sep 22, 1998, 8:19pm
*** DISCLAIMER TO COF: I am NOT reverse-engineering anything... guess a
heck of a lot at the 'reality' of things, tho. ***

As I have mentioned to others in AW chat and awcommunity, I >>>>HAVE<<<<
been working on an offline builder.. things are going well so far.... updates
shortly, hopefully. Of course, this is only meant to be used on worlds that do
not forbid automated building.... and would encourage AW to incorporate my
tool's concepts into the browser.
*** Some requirements / stumbling blocks have been as follows:
(1) complete CURRENT list of the specific world's objects
(2) object must be downloaded in order to be used for building.
(3) 'lying' to AW browser is LOADS of fun... to make the browser think
that the program is the AW server.
(4) Not sure exactly how to determine HOW much data is 'full' for
normal/large world settings, etc.

*** Current ArchitectBuilder spec's (these are result of various other
ongoing AW projects):
(1) saves project data in a 'standard' format that is readable by the
online builder, which is aptly named 'ArchitectBot'
(2) complex scripting IS allowed (programmable or manual, of course)
(3) object files are analyzed and dimensions, vertices, textures, etc
are viewable WHILST building
(4) improved object properties interface, including:
(a) compass direction buttons
(b) actual numbers for X,Y,Z, and rotation values
(c) numeric b4 directional buttons ( [_20_] {right-arrow}, etc.)
(5) 'sub-projects' can be duplicated within projects
(a) somebody mention 'tract housing'? <grins>
(6) Future option will work with the 'SurveyorBot' whilst online then
you can modify your project offline and make changes once online again
(7) I will set up a 'moving company' service for project owners that
would like their creations relocated to dif. location, world, or universe.

*** More on SurveyorBot's spec's later.... too many to list right now ***

Beta hopefully out in two weeks, give or take time i spend on my other
projects... might work more on the AW enhancements program more, to make more
ppl happy that use AlphaWorld. URL shall be posted, with code, if ppl are
properly paranoid.

Re: Building Restiction Box needed

What if the world is too large for Robo? Better solution, then.... use L=
ARGER
object. For example, i believe that in Pagan world, I saw 'pyramin1' tha=
t is
either 40m or 50m squared. Simply make a z_object.rwx that is, say {20m,=
30m,
40m, 50m} squared and robo-plaster the ground with it... building would f=
ree up x
number of z_objects for a user and max limit THAT with a counter., etc. =
<wonders
how OuterWorlds plans to play land baron.. their approach might offer sol=
ution to
this problem.> Not difficult to do with new world... would need a nice
counter-maker for older worlds first, tho.
