Hotbar *is* spyware. That's what the people in Community were trying to tell you.

If you don't believe what you're told here, go find out for yourself. This is from hotbar.com's very own privacy policy (viewable via the main page):

If you want to get Rick's attention, your best bet is to e-mail him. You might even CC the e-mail to Bill. Who knows, they might even respond... :o

If Weebo starts another thread like his last few, I'm sending an e-mail to AWI to call it to their attention. They might not listen to me alone, but enough abuse reports will eventually incline them to action.

And for those users who somehow experience intense pain due to Jacob's incoherent ramblings, may I once again point out the many uses of the handy dandy newsreader killfile. It's modern day magic at its finest - it can make posts just... disappear! :o

[View Quote] I have my newsreader set to convert all HTML posts into plain text, and it even goes the extra mile by not including HTML code in the text output so that I can actually read the post. It doesn't alter the size of the download, but at least I don't have to see any flashy HTML crap when I inadvertently stumble across an HTML post...

Everyone has an unpleasant encounter with someone every now and then,
but I fail to see the reason to post about it in the newsgroup. It also
seems to me that if you want to stop the fighting then you would not
provoke Eep further. If you want help on RWX, Eep is one of the best
people to go to about that. http://tnlc.com/rw/ has some great
information and tips.

Please ignore this, I just installed Netscape6. At first it was laggy
as all get out, but that was because Netscape decided to include this
funky "skin" with the program. I disabled the skin and went back to
classing mode, and everything's fine now.

The only reason the skin slowed me down was because it was hogging so
much of my memory. I also disabled the Sun Java 2 console that runs
with Netscape, and that gave me quite a performance boost. Thanks for
the tip, Denedes.

Posting in HTML

Some people download all messages and read them offline.

Look at this scenario:

300 posts 1-2KB each (text)
300 posts 3-6 KB each (HTML)

If you aren't lucky enough to be on broadband, then 300KB-600KB is a lot
more convenient to download than 900KB-1.8 MB.

It all adds up, you see.

GeForce2

May 28, 2001, 8:28pm
This isn't completely off topic since it relates to AW's performance on your
machine.

3D Now! is an instruction set for AMD processors that assists in floating
point calculations (I believe) and other things.
The K6-2 is a Socket 7 processor, and it's safe to say that there aren't any
chipsets for Socket 7 AGP support. Even if you did manage to find one, it
would probably be better to wait and get a new A7V133 and slap a Duron in
there, and then save up for a Geforce.

But to answer your question, yes. If you had a GeForce 2 and a decent
processor, your games would fly up on the performance bar.

I found one too, but it wasn't worth it. Especially with the latency time of
such a slow processor.

An interesting question

Jun 22, 2001, 5:12pm
[View Quote] The good things that AWCI does? <laughs>
Now let's look at the bad side.

AWCI:

1. never listens to its customers
2. doesn't apparently care about its customers
3. does stupid things
4. changes a good scenario into the worst possible
5. lies
6. pushes off good ideas to make room for features that are useless for the
normal AW user
7. goes with the stupid 'e-commerce' idea
8. lets the PKs operate in their current state
9. uses their 'power' to mess with customers
10. sells worlds for prices that are too high
11. takes bribes (you buy a universe, you get listened to; whereas you buy a
citizenship, AWCI could care less)
12. This could go on for a while.

On a scale from 1-10, I would give AWCI 0.00000102932849234...

Don't get me wrong Facter, it's a wonderful thing that you are actually
posting here. However, the top brass (namely Rick and JP) still don't give a
shit about us. If I am wrong about this, then tell one of them to actually
come here and tell us (yeah, when pigs fly).

An interesting question

Jun 22, 2001, 6:30pm
[View Quote] > Oh come on.
No, YOU come on.

> I listen ?
You aren't a whole company, either.

> I care ?
See above.

> So does everyone at one time or another, we're all human ?
AWCI must be incredibly human.

> How?
Magic? Bad luck? A curse?

> When have I lied ?
Once more, see my first point.

> So making money is bad?
Oh, yeah, look at that huge crowd in sp at mart!

> Its a better state than it was when I was a PK.
It must have been hellkeepers back then.

> Explain.
Changing peoples names, just to piss them off? How's that for an example?

> How do my wages get paid ? I like being able to pay my bills.
Get a decent job with a decent company?

> *shakes his head*
What kind of answer is that?

> Then why bother using the software ?
I was talking about AWCI, not the software. Try re-reading my post.

An interesting question

Jun 23, 2001, 4:15am
[View Quote] > and in terms of head count you are ONE person compared to thousands, so
zip
> it dork

Oh, I see. Because AWCI has a fair amount of users means that it gets to
treat individuals like shit. Thank you for the enlightenment, Moria.

An interesting question

Jun 23, 2001, 4:27pm
[View Quote] Yo, moron, AWCI isn't the only company in the world that could keep AW
afloat. It's barely afloat anyway :P
AW could be much better than it is today, but Rick and JP want to show off
to the big corporate sponsors with their "groundbreaking technology".

In my opinion, Rick and JP are morons. If this kind of crap keeps up I have
a feeling AW won't be around too much longer.

Don't be so lame, and open your eyes.

[View Quote] Every little detail? How about any detail? From reading the website no one
had any idea what the hell was going on.

A message like this would have sufficed:

"During the addition of a new group (general.discussion) to the newsgroups,

currently working on restoring those files.

Sincerely,

Hey, those don't look too bad.

A few questions for anyone that can answer them:

Are there new avatars?

Will tourists be able to build there? They can have Alpha Prime :P

Is the new object path going to be available like AW's is?
And how is this voting thing going to be handled?

If the world actually opens I'll put this on my personal '(Really) good things AWCI (as a whole, mind you) has done list'.
