Heehee, musta hit a nerve. I was just makin conversation, pokin a little fun. Well that was the intent anyway.

I didn't really DO an RW site, however I did do the initial AW docs about it which I believe have not changed much, in fact I don't see where anything much at all has changed since I stopped doing things for AW.

I used to do the whole AW website. I taught people to model, cleaned up all the AW models, created a bunch of them, made a model cleanup/preview program that sucked IMO but it's still in wide use. Did ya know that before I did the initial docs and got the Titans and other started, NOBODY was making any custom artwork except Danny and Lynn? Hadda teach myself pretty much too altho Danny helped some. There's a whole lotta stuff I did bucko, and what have you done? A WEB PAGE? ROFLMAO Oh yah I
forgot, you HARASS people. :)

Well, I didn't want to get into a pissing contest, altho really it's no contest. :) And just for the record I've never played Everquest. Try to make up less of me if possible!

Oh and my cit number is 173, NEWBIE! :)

[View Quote] > Uh huh...that's why he couldn't even sound sure of what he was talking about with regards to AW's history. And, if you recall, I had my RW site up and operational within 6 months after first coming to AW, which blew away (and still does) your and grover's pages COMBINED. And where've you been for the past 1-2 years, Russ? Oops, not in AW--that's for sure. You've been playing in Ultima Online and EverQuest and have been out of touch with AW's events. You're the newbie now, newbie. Drive through.

LOL yer too much man. BTW that little tips page was a 10-minute effort, then I saw others were takin care of the job and I laid out. I feel no need to compete with anyone. I guess if the only thing you do is make one tiny website, you're in need of affirmation. :)

No, I never left AW really, been actively involved in hosting all this time. I just don't answer telegrams from ninnies... As far as modeling and such, AW is not exactly on the forefront of, well, anything anymore. When it was, I worked on AW stuff 24/7. Now I see no reason to do so. RWX? Dead format as far as I am concerned.

RWXMOD is pathetic? Well, yahhhhh of *course* it is. It's just a crap tool I whipped together in my "spare" time. Against express orders from Ron hehe.

Rage against me some more if ya like. Hell I'm a big fat guy, I got padding, take a PUNCH if it makes ya feel better! Ain't gonna make a dent tho I warn ya!

[View Quote] > Try a webSITE, sport...and a DAMN way more comprehensive one than your pathetic little "tips" page. I've also probably found more tricks and workarounds for AW and RWX than you have even DREAMED of. Your pathetic RWXMod has needed SERIOUS updating for YEARS yet you refused years ago when I first BUGGED you about it and you now claim you "lost" RW 2.1's source code (how convienent for you). You bitch and moan about Rick and JP, leave, and are now "back". I, on the other hand, have never left. Yes, I took my RW webSITE down in protest for a bit, but I've ALWAYS been around in the background. You haven't. You "left" AW years ago, Russ--perhaps you should have just stayed away for good, eh? If you're back, GET back and quit playing the "<whine> ohhhh, I'm here...oh, no, I'm not again! <whine>" bit.

Filtering out crEepS

Apr 3, 2001, 7:54am
Censorship is a tough issue. It's needed, yes, but the power to censor corrupts
to some extent. Just as Gamemasters tend to abuse their authority, and
bandleaders, and pimps [g], any time someone has even a little power over
someone else there is a temptation to abuse that power.

I was sort of the mayor/janitor/entire-civic-center of AW for a while, simply
because nobody else was willing to do it I guess. (Well at least nobody who Ron
thought could be trusted.) And I did abuse that a coupla times in small ways,
then felt guilty about it--possibly because I was raised to treat people as
peers and give them respect. The ironic thing is that the only times I got
called down for abuse of power (1) I did not (knowingly at least) abuse power in
the cases in question and (2) I basically became the focus of a group of people
who were seeking an authority figure to resent--but I had no real *authority*
nor did I want any particularly, I just really had responsibilities.

But I digress. [g] Let me see if I can make a point. (Forgive me please, I've
been playing Black and White almost exclusively all day and night...and before
that too.) In newsgroups censorship doesn't mean that much because you can
filter those you find offensive. But in other situations it does mean a lot,
and really even in newsgroups it's possible that young kids could be exposed to
things that their parents do not approve. If you don't think that's important,
most likely you are not a parent.

Soooo, as I see it there are two possibilities: either let it be a free-for-all,
or let someone run it. If you happen to like the person running things, all is
well for ya. If not, you can always start your own newsgroup or whatever.
PERsonally, when I ran the AW newsgroup, I ran it by pretty much the same rules
as we used on Compuserve. I censored personal attacks and cursing. Personal
attacks have driven a lot of folks out of this and other discussion groups. Eep
is guilty of that, and I find it hard to believe that whatever relevant
arguments he makes counterbalance that. And cursing is just not necessary in a
public discussion area IMO. In my home, and other situations where it is
allowable, I have one of the foulest mouths you'll experience. But in public
discussion areas, that just has no place as far as I am concerned. Eep's not
only guilty of that, he manages to combine the two pretty often.

Hoo boy, I guess I could have just summarized all this by saying "IMO public
discussion groups should be run the way we used to do it on Compuserve!" But my
guess is that will never happen because the folks in charge of AW are not, and
have never been, big on online discussion. And never will be most likely.

Oh and BTW Eep behaved for the most part in the newsgroup I ran, because I told
him I would band him if he didn't. :)

[View Quote] > Adobe is foolish if it thinks a software only version will last long. However, by making a hardware AND software version (wow, dig the ability to switch rendering modes&!*( at &%$(# at Gee, 3D games have only been doing it for over 5 years now!) MORE people will be reached and will allow for a better experience than being limited to JUST software rendering (which is mindnumblingly slow).

Tell ya what tho, if you go with a P866 or so, it's cheapo now (flipchip) and
the PC133 RAM to go with it is just in the cellar pricewise. :)

Personally I'm going Radeon next week. With that, and my cheetah drive with a
UW2160 SCSI controller, who the hell cares how fast the processor is past a
certain point. Windoze will drag the processor into the hole no matter what
anyway hehe.

Hey in that intro (which I remember making myself) I mention RWVIEW, have you ever *seen* RWVIEW? :)

But ya know what? Let's suppose for the sake of argument that I copied a few paragraphs and cleaned them up or whatever. I didn't but WHO THE HELL CARES. :) It's a few paragraphs on a web page! In my TEMP directory, yet...something I put there and forgot to delete. That page was a rough
draft. When I saw Grover's page I said well why bother improving this, other people are gonna cover this ground. *This is not my claim to fame, newbie.* It's just something I threw together because there wasn't anything else at the time and people needed to know it.

The way yer goin, you'd think it was something that mattered.
