VB-SDK: Getting an Object Number / Co-ords

Feb 1, 2002, 4:55pm
[View Quote] I/m not a VB expert but I know that when you are querying the area around the bot, you'll get all info embedded in the object. I.e.: the model name, the action and the description field together with the object coordinates and the object number which is unique within the cell. Of course you have to keep track of the objects within your memory.

Contacts online - Using a bot ?

Unfortunately NOT. The SDK doesn't support the contact list and the citizen's state is not sent to the SDK.

Active Worlds Utility 1.00

Feb 12, 2001, 4:33pm
I knew I make a mistake when I installed (tried to install) a program with version number 1.00. You NEVER EVER install a program with such version number :)!!!

OK. My observations:
1, The program just doesn't install under Windows 2000. It repeats itself trying to replace a few system dlls (OLEAUT.DLL, OLEPRO32.DLL).
2, With forced installation (booting from a different OS and replacing the offending ddls) I lost ZoneAlarm (several calls are missing from the "newer" dlls
3, Running the program with searching for missing objects:
- I run it in a 2000m*2000m world (set the world size parameters to 100 100 respectively)
The program queried some very weird locations: (482s 497w, etc) and never found my objects. Took about the same time than Xelag's or Hamfon's bots.
- I started it in AW (32000x32000 sizes).
The objects/addresses the program found (I set just record EVERYTHING) has nothing to do with the world itself. Those objects are just simply not there!!!
4, The Installer is a bloatware. Why would I need to D/L 2,500 KBytes to get a 200KBytes program?

Terrain texturing warning!

Be careful with texture settings in the SDK or in the elevdump file! If you set it to 63 (or any rotates of it) will crash the browser immediatelly.

World List in VB

First - who the *** are you to decide that a bot-related question doesn't belong to this ng.
Second - Nobody asked if you know or you don't. If you don't know it - don't respond. This is not a chat.

Help maybe?

Feb 20, 2001, 6:48am
The bot doesn't have to be at the survey location. You have to set the survey coordinates for the query in sector address. The example uses the sector "0,0" - GZ.
You want to invoke it with:
aw_query(aw_sector_from_cell(cell_x),aw_sector_from_cell(cell_z),sequence) where the cell_x,cell_z is the center coordinate the area you want to survey.
To receive object click/delete/add events the bot has to announce it's position (be visible) and will receive all clicks/delete/add within the 200m hearing radius.

(Those are C notations - I don't know the VB equivalents)

Hi folks,

The ultimate World server backup tool is available at http://andras.net/tools.html#adminbot .
I know - version 1.01 is really an initial release but it is running so far and I'm happy with the result.

Multiple Avatars Using One Bot Session?

Feb 23, 2001, 8:04pm
I did not figure out a way to have multiple bots under one "bot usage". And trust me - I tried :) Just in AWSpades we have 80 bots worst case!
I would LOVE to have that knowledge!!!

One would offer to move the birds/animals as objects but it is too much of a server/network load IMO.

VB Multiple Query + Live Update

Nov 10, 2002, 3:44pm
Single instance bot can get live update only within 400m x 400m square around it's announced position, so the response to your question: it is not possible with a single instance - with the exception of the Global mode but it requires CT privileges.

3.4 vb sdk

All text variable definition/creation in your example is WRONG.

char *c;
c=new char;
will create a single character pointer but not a string!

char *c;
c=new char[1024];
Will create a 1024 character long string pointed by c.

In your case you probably wanted to use the later one :)

3.4 vb sdk

Feb 17, 2003, 3:12pm
[View Quote] <snip>
The meaning of your code snippet as follows:
1, when you define char *b, you are creating a pointer.
2, when you assign a new char[1024] to it, this pointer will point to a 1024 character long string which content is unknown (not initialized).
3, when you assign "312237" to the character pointer b - it will point to the 7 character long string which content will be "312237\0" (\0 is the NULL character).
4, when you strcat( b, " 350803") then you try to expand the already defined string ("312237\0") by an additional 7 characters which you can't do since there is no room for the excess character in that string (actually that string is even a constant, so it is embedded into the code you wrote).

This is how the memory looks in your case:
----------------------
| your program | \
| | code section
| | / the data section after the strcat(b,",350803"); instruction will look like:
| 312237\0 | \ <--| | 312237, |
|342836,312237\0 | data section | 350803\0312237\0 |
| | / | |---------------------|
| etc | |
---------------------- |b will point to the constant in your program's data area after the b="212237"; instruction
|
---------------------- |
| b as a pointer | ---|--
---------------------- |
| this pointer will be after the char * b = new char[1024]; instruction
---------------------- |
| 1024 bytes space |<----
----------------------

The correct way to do the same:
char* b = new char[1024]; // create a 1024 char long variable (or just: char b[1024];)

strcpy(b,"312237"); // fill the first 7 characterw with "312237\0"
strcat(b,",350803"); // copy the new string AFTER the previous one - the content will be: "312237,350803\0";

YASBB 1.3.1 released

Mar 14, 2003, 12:52pm
Hi folks,

I added a new feature to the YASBB (Yet Another Survey Build Bot):
It can survey terrains now. The result can be saved as a BMP or as a Terragen file for further processing (preferably in Dem2RWX:).

Enjoy,

Creating a nice .RWX browser...

Mar 25, 2003, 4:05am
[View Quote] <snip>
Unfortunately neither of us wrote the RWXMod. The author, Dataman, lost the sourcecode of the program and he is not willing to work on it any more.
You have to convert the textures to BMP and store it in the folder "textures" on the same level your RWX files are (or edit the options to specify the texture path).
Several new RWX files won't play in RWXMod due to the new "pseudo" RWX commands introduced by AW (if they are not prefixed with #! character sequence) causing the RWXMod just simply crash :(
