I wish more people would read the help files.. there is a lot of information in them that is asked about constantly in the NGs, if
people would have read them to begin with they wouldn't have wasted anyones time...

: 3. Ablity to join tourists, but tourist can't join you - with the suggestion

Joining is part of the contact list, tourists don't have CLs, so can't join.. and since they don't have them nor telegrams, and an
ever-changing name.. you can't add them to yours and therefor can't join them..
: 4. Ability to render EVERY movement of avatars (for fast computers)
What do you mean render every movement? I thought it did.. maybe if the avatars had more movement.. not only that but a lot of it is
your eye's perception..
: 5. Contact Lists: Block Citizens, Unlimited Citizens
Block citizens i understand, but an unlimited sized CL would slow the servers immensley
: 6. Sometimes the visibility automatically ups itself to something else (i.e.
: 52) if i set it to 25. I want to be able to SET and let it STAY there.
There are minimum/maximum visibilites.. and did you ever take into consideration you could have accidenteley typed 25 in backwards,
making it 52?
Aug 10, 2001, 8:32pm
You asked me a question and then went over what my responses would be in advance. I have been to places in AW with just a normal
cell size that have lagged to my wits end, however if that is increased, and the new longer visibility the lag could very easily
freeze your entire comp. I feel that a larger cell limit is really unecessary, I can understand maybe a bit higher then "normal"
but anything above that I don't see why you need it. Another thing is that on the new 3.2 there is a optional "cell gird" which can
be displayed on the ground so you can tell where your objects stand in a certain cell, and this will help imensley with positioning
buildings and whatnot so that you conserver your space even more.

I can't stand the GZ.. maybe keeping it the same but more realistic objects/textures in place of the old would help, I think that AW
doesn't seem feasible as a true 3D environment is simply because many of the objects and textures aren't very well realistically
designed, when have you ever seen things so exact and precise angles & corners, i understand it helps to make them fit, but you
could always create an aditional object with a paint splat on it or something to throw in occasionally to ad realism. Every object
in AWGZ is so unreleastic it's no wonder to me at all that people don't find the program as a very good image renderer, I've seen
amazingly realistic objects and those as opposed to the ones in AWGZ, it looks like you are using a completeley different program,
just because of the objects & textures there..

I am not fully for the use of Custom Avatars because I feel it can be abused rather be by size, or obscene use of textures/seqs.
Therefore I have come up with an Idea that I feel might make us all happy, wheather you be for 100% Custom AVs, or None at all.
A World owner would be able to have one of three choices in regards to Custom AVs in their world.
Option A) Allow All Custom Avatars
-Will allow ANY custom avatar that a visitor would like to use.
Option B) Limited Custom Avatars
-AW will have an "av maker" in which a world owner can specify what textures/objects or "bodies" and sequences that can be used. A
small dialog box within AW will show these options and create the avatar as per the users request. This way the world owner can
"censor" and limit the custom avatars people use, to prevent them from being too big, too small, or obscene.
Option C) No Custom Avatars
-No users will be allowed Custom Avatars in that world.
I think that having these three options is a good compromise for people who are for/against custom AVs and the reasons why. Let me
know what you think..

I think they have privacy and custom avatar stuff at higher priority.. unfortunateley..
it is more likely to be done when aw is back to one version.. as two if you add something like that entire builds could be
incompatible with one version.. we can start bugging them after 3.2 comes out..

i agree, too many people compare active worlds to a govornment.. awc is a
private company that provides a service, we purchase their service.. we have
no say in anything they say or do.. we simply use their service.. like a
hair salon, we go their to get their haircut, they are free to put whatever
signs or remodel their building as they choose without our "vote" or
"petition" i don't see why we think aw should take our words so seriously
and strongly, if we are not happy with their service, we can stop using it.

The analogy doesn't apply in this case because the government/AWC already
owns your house in their worlds. They can do whatever they like to your
house, it is not your legal property. This is one of the fallacies that a
lot of people apparently seem to buy into, that what they create in a world
(any world, unless you are the world owner of that world) somehow *belongs*
to you. Not true... building does not confer any sort of ownership or legal
rights to the builder. Now, there *might* be a case for the ownership of
intellectual property (how you put together AWC's models into a specific
build), but this would need to be taken into the court systems and tried,
and I don't see that happening any time soon.

We clasp the hands of those that go before us,
And the hands of those who come after us.
We enter the little circle of each other's arms
And the larger circle of lovers,
Whose hands are joined in a dance,
And the larger circle of all creatures,
Passing in and out of life,
Who move also in a dance,
To a music so subtle and vast that no ear hears it

the 3d homepages aren't designed as a time-saving tool... it's just so new

lol, I voted to fix the world rights, and that one only got 26, heh...

may be that the people who do a lot of building and the people who do a lot
of web page surfing are not the same group of people... so perhaps the
builders are failing to represent their opinion in the vote because the vote
is in a place where they would be less likely to find it. That page is
still there and the items on it are still not implemented, so if anyone
wants to vote on it I'm guessing it's not too late. Of course, I'm pretty
sure they're not going to add what ever we vote most for just because it got
the most votes... but if they see a lot of votes for the same feature I
think they'll give that feature a lot stronger consideration because of it.

> Only 462 votes is really rather pathetic, and that's probably why they
haven't done much with it so far. Want to make a difference?... cast your
vote. I voted for the scale command a long time ago, even though I could
see it was badly out-numbered by the idea of custom avatars. A scale
command would be much easier to add than custom avatars and would make it
possible to build much more creatively with no added downloads, so I'm still
hoping it will eventually pull ahead, but any vote at all is better than no
vote because at least it shows that we care and are willing to express our
opinions in a civilized manor. If the feature you would like most to see
added isn't in the list, then vote for one that is in the list for now, and
use the "suggestion box" link to tell what you would like, and keep it short
and simple so that it will fit well in the list if they decided to add it.
I strongly suggest looking over some as many as you can of the old wishlist
posts if you plan to use the suggestion box, or after you vote, to help you
make a more informed choice. You can go back and change your vote if you
change your mind, so there's no need to wait before voting. :)

I've noticed that on picture objects sometimes create color can turn the
whole thing that color, so i often choose to use something like: create
picture blah.jpg; animate me black. 1 1 0
that seems to work just as well..

9 9 9 is talking about integrating physics into AW (this would include the
"Grip" concept, and perhaps the "sticky objects" but that would be
difficult..
in the new version of AW there *is* a "Real" sun/moon.. NewAW integrates the
town system..
the rest.. *shrugs* i don't work for aw, lol..

This is a post for a basic wishlist for AW. Feel free to add to it!
If there are further problems caused by these, please be sure to discuss
them!
Grip, where if you are standing on a moving object, you will move with it,
same with rotating.
Global commands, where you can make objects move without synchronization
with universe clock for all people within range of that object.
Sticky Objects, where an object (such as a plane) will move with the user,
useful if you want to add vehicles.
Water Reflections, for that extra sense of realism.
Terrain Marker Split, for making precise adjustments to terrain. This
involves clicking a button in the Terrain Dialog box that makes the selected
cell into 4 terrain tiles, for more precise adjustments.
Looping Worlds, This may be hard to implement, but it is simply the concept
of making worlds circular instead of flat.
Sun, Stars, Moon, be great if these could be real instead of stamping them
on a texture.
A Bot Panel, yet another tab for AW, with integrated Preston-like bot
support.
World Sections, e.g.. If you're between 5n 5w and 10n 10w in a world, a
message in the titlebar that says for instance, "Active Worlds - AWTeen at
6N 5W (The City)"
Contact/Teleport Folders, for the people with many of them, folders, such as
"Co-Workers", "Friends", and customizable ones, and teleport too, "AWTeen
Teleports", "Phonic Maniak's Buildings", and customizable as well.
An AW Client SDK, no 3D, but just logging in, 2D, still go into worlds,
still chat, still send telegrams, etc. Just no 3D, and able for coding in VB
or C++
Any others? Keep this thread going!

omg, i love that image!
it's so totally altered, and I thought it was going to show us what the
repeating terrain "squares" would look like, not where the feature would go
in the world options.. omfg your hillarious!

In the future you will also be able to trade with other citizens in NewAW -
create your own store perhaps, where you could make hundreds without having
to sit online idle for hours.. :-)

Yes, I also have proposed and ad banner in tourist versions of the browser
that is removed when you register - thus providing income for AW from the
freeloading tourists :-)

I think it should be more like when logged in as a tourist only the tourist
accessible worlds be displayed int he worlds list...
maybe also have a not saying that more worlds will be accessible of you were
a citizen.. hehe
