Dont quote me, im not 100% on it

I got a question

May 14, 2002, 7:25pm
You never know, Andras could have written 1 that superseeds Rolands bot on
every aspect such as having a direct GUI for changing levels at once (like
on the sims) and things like that. We will have to wait and see. (Not that
ive actually seen Rolands yet)

so the bots would be invisible? How would you know your not being spied on
short of a Cracked Browser...

Quick comment about 3.3

May 18, 2002, 3:57am
When I talk to my friends about things such as personal plans and such, I
always make sure that I have 1 of my bots in proximity to make sure that
there are no sessions within range that can hear without me knowing about
it.

Basicly in RL, you know that you could be being watched... yet in AW you
know that every word you say, every move you make is being logged in
infinate prescision.

Personally I take that to be a slight invasion of privacy, not that we would
even know if we were being monitored or not.

*Just pointing out the ethics - the new SDK looks good*

Re: Control key has no effect on turning speed

May 18, 2002, 4:37am
Does anyone know if this means we cant turn fast on the spot when we hold
the Ctrl key?

If so, i kinda like that feature, sure beats having to wait 4 seconds to
turn your avatar 360. Infact i do most of my turning that way....

Why the hell it AWC goes and does stupid things (i presume the limiter will
be implimented writing this) and then to get the functionality back someone
has to go crack the darn AWB to restore what are very good setings.

(Btw, If awc is considering putting it in.. the mob has spoken (yer know,
us, your customers) and it seems as though we dissaprove... and considering
we will be the 1's using it...)

Browser Tracking....

May 26, 2002, 9:30am
I dont know if this has been discuessed, but Id like someone who knows to
fully explain how our hardware is going to be tracked using this Hexadecimal
Hash # that is going to be forming part of the new ejection systems in
version 3.3.

I personally feel that if this system is introduced then the eject feature
will effectivly become spyware that anyone with their citnum in a bot (or
PPW) can acess and see.

I believe that the actual display of this unique ID that I presume stays
contstant in each world is a invasion of privacy, sure, its Hex but as
anyone with windows calculator or a programming tool can do, just type it in
and press translate. And you have yourself the origional number.

If this number absolutly *has* to be included why cant it be made invisible
so that ejections automatically add the hash, but it is not visible to
either people with eject, CT or anyone else for that matter.

I understand that it is meant to keep us safe by keeping out some of the
crackers and such at universe level etc, but the people who its meant to
keep out are the people who can create programs to mask their hash number
anyway.

If anyone from AWC reads things (roland, Young Shamus, HamFon etc) then
could you please explain what exactly is being tracked, and if you would
give any consideration to this compromise.

Browser Tracking....

May 26, 2002, 9:46am
http://www.activeworlds.com/help/aw33/world_ejections.html

shows a box to display the value w/ 3 radio buttons to display what is in
the box

also "For computer ID ejections, the value shows the computer ID in
hexadecimal" so it shows it

May 26, 2002, 10:14am
anyone who doesnt want anyone to be able to see part of their hardware info?

Browser Tracking....

May 26, 2002, 10:54am
Did you read the help files? it has a box to display the value deendant on
what button is pressed and you can lookup but has #

Browser Tracking....

May 26, 2002, 12:03pm
I Dont want anyone to be able to uniquly ID my computer nomatter what.. its
things like that, that end up as computer specific viruses etc.

Browser Tracking....

May 26, 2002, 12:27pm
so its only CT's, a start i guess :)

Browser Tracking....

May 26, 2002, 5:07pm
How about.. who thinks the browser would be better if JP and Rick kept their
noses out and let the programmer do the work their payed for?

Browser Tracking....

May 26, 2002, 5:09pm
btw, thought it was hexadecimal so it could be reversed?

Browser Tracking....

May 26, 2002, 5:18pm
Ah, but u know JP's logic, in his book Gravity is what makes you fly.

Browser Tracking....

May 27, 2002, 3:40pm
Ahh, yes, its you JerMe... person who completly said i was talking crap
about a certain PW list onto be be proved wrong...

Anywya, ive been told bout what it is and considring its only CT it seems
reasonable.

Try not to be so insultive cause U only look like some offencive moron :)

Slide Detection

May 26, 2002, 11:52am
I just found this in the Beta NG...

Yeah, slide detection is far from perfect...I would have left it out
completely if it were up to me, but the powers that be insisted that 3.3
have slide detection regardless of whether it worked well or not...

Does anyone have a requirement for slide detection other than ending up in
gawd knows where if yuo happen to hit a wall?

Slide Detection

May 26, 2002, 12:11pm
and what happens if u run out of wall to slide against?

Slide Detection

May 27, 2002, 3:42pm
I know it was obvious.. but do you slide around a wall in RL if yuo run
straight into it? Nope, you fall to the ground with a headache.

Slide Detection

May 27, 2002, 8:02pm
yeah but the fly key aint bug ridden apparently... unless ur on a laptop
then its hell for a GK to explain,.

Does the Management bug roland, does it bug u?

May 28, 2002, 7:49pm
The following is from the Beta NG about the eject thingy.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
--
No it's currently all automated. The eject feature ejects by every type of
ejection that it can for a particular user (i.e. always by IP, also by
computer ID if one is available, and also by citizen number if the user is a
citizen.) In theory world caretakers can add individual ejections of each
type manually from the world ejections dialog, but in practice there is no
way to look up the computer ID of a user, unless you have already ejected
them once and you take notice of the computer ID eject that was added to the
ejection database as a reult.

Yes, this mechanism could be better. What you see now is the minimum
changes necessary to accomodate AW mangement's requirement with the new
pricing/tourist access changes that we be able to eject troublemakers by
more than just IP address.

-Roland

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
--

Now my question in.. does anyone really like the management, does roland? do
you? and more importantly do u think they are getting in the way or the
programmers?

I just thought id bring it up as a topic cause everything else seems dead in
ere.

-Mark

Does the Management bug roland, does it bug u?

May 28, 2002, 8:58pm
Notice: This post is in no way associated or agreed to by Roland,

Just to keep him outta trouble :)

-Mark

Does the Management bug roland, does it bug u?

May 29, 2002, 3:28pm
Yes, the security features are a good thing :) But with people going to riot
if they dont get 3.3 soon, do we really NEED things like slide detection, Do
we really NEED 70 AWC test worlds and do we need Cryonics as a manager?

The answer is nope :P although the test woulds I supose are the art
departments so well let them off this time ^_^

What we could do with is Rick and JP on here though to give us kinda a
Corprate minded tech talk, lol

Does the Management bug roland, does it bug u?

May 29, 2002, 6:37pm
I know :) i thought thats what I said
