On the screenshots the AVs there look like facers.
I think that would be a big step back for AW. [View Quote] -- "_ | /\ \ / __/ /_ [CU] Response to Citizens Union ProposalAug 11, 2001, 3:55pm
It WAS interesting until they started to force people to
allow active contents in the web browser. That was the point when I uninstalled it. [View Quote] -- "_ | /\ \ / __/ /_ Another PollAug 12, 2001, 7:15am
Does anyone have an idea how many of the voters really
tried to see everything that was nominated? I saw about 90% but I didn't meet many people on my journey. I saw a lot of stuff that was great and the decision what to vote for was really not easy. And it took a lot of time, although I traveled as a tourist most of the time and didn't have telegrams to answer. Especially it is not easy to close the eyes against the sympathy for the nominated person and really vote for the category values. For models and avatars there would be a solution, a world like the ObjectD' world, where people can see all this work in one place. I see no really fair solution for complete environments and technical stuff to bring everyone to a decision so these categories could be a typical commitee thing. The misc. categories could be done by both together, mixed voting system with 50% / 50% counting. Volker [View Quote] -- "_ | /\ \ / __/ /_ Re: local path optionAug 10, 2001, 8:53pm

Invalid privilege passwordSep 6, 2001, 2:38am
hm, the problem seems to be a bug in the universe server.
Today I changed username and someone else took my username for a while - for some jokes. Now no bot works anymore, I tried new priv. passwords but no luck. The builder reports RC_UNABLE_TO_CONNECT (429), one of my own ones (old SDK) means it is more a RC_ACTING_PASSWORD_INVALID (43) Both bots work fine in a different universe. *sigh* [View Quote] -- "_ | /\ \ / __/ /_ Sorry everyone...Sep 1, 2001, 9:01pm
Crossposting is placing one message into several groups.
You did it by replying to a message that is crossposted, in this case to all 6 open groups on this server. Your reply appeared in all newsgroups, I removed 4 of them from the address list so this reply will only appear in 2 groups. Crossposting is annoying in most cases but if you do not check the list for each message you reply to it will occur sometimes although you don't wanted to do it. In most cases browser recognize crossposted messages and will mark them "read" in all groups once you have read it in one of them. Most people crosspost to "Bots" and "SDK" because they cannot decide which of them would be the best place for their message. This can be useful in few cases and is done by adding a second (third ...) group name to the receipient list. [View Quote] -- "_ | /\ \ / __/ /_ Message to "Eep"Sep 1, 2001, 7:41am
Nothing to be afraid about.
An off-topic post is by far not abusive enough to ban someone or take away her/his web account. Reasons to do that are continous spamming, flooding, posting huge binaries or abusive contents, not just off-topic posts. Volker [View Quote] -- "_ | /\ \ / __/ /_ Message to "Eep"Sep 1, 2001, 10:00am
This is not unusual, he likes to draw attention by

Use AwStart and you'll need only 1 or 2 AW directories,
one with 3.1 and maybe one with 2.2 (for old universes) http://oct31.de/aw/awstart [View Quote] -- "_ | /\ \ / __/ /_ Alphaworld registry fixesSep 5, 2001, 4:45pm

I have less trouble with KAH's choice of words than with yours
sometimes and others seem to understand him quite well too. If you had trouble with his postings in no.alt.activeworlds I would understand that, hard to read for me too, but his English seems quite clear and understandable to me. Btw.: I'm sure you know where most of the frequent writers in this NG come from, and be sure, a lot of AW citizens come from Scandinavia. Sorry, I know that this isn't the right place for private
fights but please allow me to put some things right (it will not become a flame war) : > 1. I was offered a lot in the world "Anywhere" a world > where as far as I could tell everyone was mature and in > Eminent Domain. I was delighted to accept. Wrong, dear Bodhi, Dreamtime told me you asked Keti for building rights in "Anywhere" and CarolAnn, the world owner, told me you did not ask at all. > 2. I built a fairly complex structure off away from > everyone else without hindrance or lag to anyone else's build. wrong again, "Anywhere" is a world wit 2 layers and on the empty plot above my frame rate was at about 0.6 > It was built with the approval and acceptance of the world > owner Carolann. Oh yes? See answer to #1 > 3. Like all my builds it was laggy however it did not > encroach and the world owner did not mention this to me nor > did the caretaker Wilby or the caretaker Keti who had set me > up with a lot initially. Wilby wanted to keep lag extra low in "Anywhere". And Keti hardly really knows you so she didn't know whom she gave a lot. You even damaged Wilbys stuff at GZ before I removed all your buildings in "Anywhere" and only removed it because CarolAnn insisted on that. > 4. Ananas gramed me saying: 'I deleted your entire > build as your lag is unacceptable.' Yes, that's right. I asked CarolAnn and talked to Wilby before I removed the building, they gave me their OK and I proceeded. I sent this telegram to show that I take full responsibility for this action. CarolAnn and Wilby did not encourage me to remove the building but they gave me free hand. After that was done I revoked all of Bodhis rights in "Anywhere" - but - see #5 > 5. When I went to see, all that was left was a barrier that > Ananas had placed at GZ where the teleport to my build had > been. I deleted it and I'm ashamed to admit, I also got part of > GZ in my rage at him. I would like to take this opportunity to > publicly apologize to Wilby for that. I didn't add anything there at GZ, I just used a builder bot to selectively remove all the property of Bodhi. This "part of GZ" that Bodhi deleted later, using the priviledges of his wife Dreamtime without asking her first (she married him because he needs a greencard) was not only Wilbys building but had quite a big radius. Asked if he did it he lied until CarolAnn could proof what had really happened using her worlds log. Btw.: I used my own priviledges to remove Bodhis stuff and did not hide behind the coat of someone else. > There was no reason why Ananas should have deleted my > entire build as no one is ever entitled to do that without first > contacting the owner of the world and/or the owner of the build > and backing it up first. It was a blatant act of terrorism and I > refuse to just stand by and say nothing when this sort of thing > is going on. More than one reason to delete it, one of them Bodhis behaviour in the news groups, but my problem with Bodhi is quite old. But wrong again, I DID contact the world owner when I deleted, she was even there when I did it. She gave me the right and I used it. She is friendly and would never have done it herself though. > After this happened Ananas was unhappy that I was angry at > him so he decided to terrorize the OP's of several worlds with > a new AV. It was an AV that took the form of a dogs rear end > defecating; if you clicked on my name in the AV list it would be > the AV you would find yourself in. He did this to my OP, which > I share with Dreamtime, Carolann, NurseMom and others. He > then left town for a week. I was not unhappy that Bodhi was angry at me, that was something I can understand and accept (although I don't care much about it). I was mad at him because he cowardly vandalized buildings of my friends using Dreamtimes priviledges and hiding behind her. Well, and the avatar I replaced was one I made for Bodhi because Dreamtime asked me to make it for him. I never liked him but she is my friend (she STILL is my friend!) so I agreed. About the sharing : Bodhi does not share an object path with CarolAnn and NurseMom, the one he uses is Dreamtimes object path, CarolAnn and NurseMom use mine. I replaced the avatar with the list name "Bodhi" by this sprite to show what I think about his behaviour (=> http://oct31.de/obj/textures/bodhi.jpg) > Suffice to say he is out of my worlds ... Symbolic and A'Party! > For life. Hm, if I recall right, Dreamtime owns Symbolic and you just have taken control so much that she didn't like to go there anymore. Unfortunately I never received any response to 4 emails to abuse at activeworlds.com where I forwarded several hate telegrams where Bodhi called me nazi and terrorist and other similar words. Be sure I will not set a foot into A'Party - Symbolic maybe after Bodhi has his greencard - if Dreamtime can gain control back after they are divorced. > We have a duty as citizens of Active Worlds to bring this crap > out from the woodwork and from the hidden places where it > thrives in the safety and darkness of ignorance and into the > light of justice. > Ananas Thrives in AW on people who do not understand their > own OP's. He has control of their worlds because he controls > their OP's. I will not expand on this particular aspect of his > sinister nature here as you can see it for yourself simply by > adding him to your contacts and ask him who owns the world > he is in. As a SolServer is nothing but a UniServer with a limited
licence you should be allowed to put up your own, customized AW client that has an own INI file (with host=/port= of your SolServer) and own message files, and an own startup screen I think. The SolServer world is not connected to the AW universe and no teleport between the (one) SolServer- (or Galaxy-) world is possible. [View Quote] -- "_ | /\ \ / __/ /_ 3D Homepages/Active Worlds Plug-InOct 6, 2001, 11:23am
Note, this is based on a second-hand information :
I doubt that upgrade will be possible, strategy seems to be to let the different licences look like different products in order to avoid upgrade and force buying new. A friend tried to upgrade from a galaxy to a universe and he kept his galaxy and his money because he didn't want to buy a second server licence and an upgrade of his current one was not accepted by AW. I'm not so sure if that is really a good strategy but it's their product (and their lost money in this case) [View Quote] -- "_ | /\ \ / __/ /_ 3D Homepages/Active Worlds Plug-InOct 6, 2001, 6:29pm

NetScape 4.76 (my favourite):
Problem is that some tables work with fixed table width values instead of using width="xx%". The width that NetScape shows is correct, the bug is in IE, that modifies the table width although it is given in fixed values. Mixing width values absolute and in % often causes a problem because NetScape uses the absolute values and doesn't modify the width depending on the browser window width. Some of the table style attributes are not supported in NetScape but it doesn't make me wonder that it's not 100% HTML compatible : <meta name="GENERATOR" content="Microsoft FrontPage 5.0"> I think if the width problem is fixed the other (minor) incompatibilities will not disturb too much, the rest looks OK in my browser. [View Quote] -- "_ | /\ \ / __/ /_ People needed to tear something apartOct 13, 2001, 5:20am
You have both optionns, fixed width and percentage, but I think
if you specify a fixed with it is a good thing if you receive a fixed width. [View Quote] -- "_ | /\ \ / __/ /_ HAHAHA AWTEEN VANDELISED!Oct 28, 2001, 1:48am
