memory leak bug fix Xelagots

Nov 14, 2002, 7:48pm
Just a suggestion... XelaG has said more than once in the past that if
you have any feature requests or bugs to report, please do so via
e-mail. You can e-mail him at xelag at 3dee.nl or xelag at digitalspace.com.
He probably does not have the time to read each user's reply in the
newsgroups or to read and reply to everyone's personal telegrams. I have
e-mailed him in the past and have received very quick responses.

Xelagot 3.4 official release (with Trivia Bot)

Jul 7, 2003, 1:11pm
Just upgraded three Av99 bots to the new version without any problems.
:) I'm surprised at how small the file size is compared to the older
Av99's! Very nice job, XelaG. Thank you for providing such great bots to
the community and at such great a price. ;)

Xelagot 3.4 official release (with Trivia Bot)

Jul 7, 2003, 11:43pm
I think the older av99.exe used to be over 1 MB, but now it is about
500k. So UPX compression did that. :) You are right about the memory
footprint, it is about 5-7 MB for each Av99 instance.

XeonBot Build 4 Released

Jul 8, 2003, 6:13pm
The bot has a nice, uncluttered interface. It reminds me of the Preston.
However, I suggest you put the bot's commands somewhere on your site
instead of posting them here in the NGs. Also, how is your RPG bot
coming along? That looks interesting, too.

Now, as I look at XeonBot's features, I really don't see anything new or
overly exciting that other bots can't already do. I know you got some
insults from others here in the NG, Richard, and I hope this doesn't
insult you, but I have to ask: why did you make the XeonBot in the first
place? As a learning experience (that's a great reason)? To try and
become popular overnight with some AW citizens (bad reason)? To help
others and give an alternative to those that had problems with other
bots (another good reason)?

World stops running

Aug 6, 2003, 1:28pm
Maybe it is due to not enough bandwidth on the host's connection? When a
query or wipe is being done, it takes up a fair amount of bandwidth. If
there are others in the world at the same time the query is going on, it
could "eat up" all of the available bandwidth. Go see my post called
"Remote Admin Tool Transfer Limit" in wishlist for a more detailed
explanation.

virus alert (cross-posted to all groups)

Feb 20, 2004, 3:23pm
Are you sure it is really coming from AWI and not someone else's
computer? The other recent e-mail worms spoofed the "from" address of
the e-mails they sent out.

For example, let's say that I did not have the worm and all of my
anti-virus signatures were up to date. However, one of my friends had
*my* address in *their* address book and *they* get infected with the worm.

Now, that worm looks through my friend's address book and sees that *my*
address is there. So the worm decides to use it and sends out mail using
*my* (not their) address as the sender. Even though my system is totally
nice and secure, uneducated people will think *I'm* the one sending the
worm, when in reality it is from another computer that is just forging
the sender's address.

Look at the e-mail you supposedly got from AW and post the headers here.
We can then tell if it really did some from them or not.

bot limit for xelag bot...

Mar 10, 2004, 1:40pm
Yes, the Av99bot is great. I have about four different Av99bots (with
multiple bots under each instance) running all the time for hosting
clients and have never had any major problems. The only thing is that
you need to edit an .ini file to customize the bots and get them setup.
For some users, this may be beyond their technical ability. But overall,
it is a great program.

World Server Information Bot?

Apr 5, 2004, 8:15pm
Does anyone know of a bot or program that can determine a world server's
version and build number *without* having to be a caretaker? Using the

World Server Information Bot?

Apr 5, 2004, 9:42pm
Thanks for replying. I feel stupid now. I haven't used the Xelagot for a
while, but I use the Av99 bot (basically the Xelagot with all of the
options set in an .ini file) on a daily basis for hosting customers.

World Server Information Bot?

Thanks for your detailed reply, XelaG!

I know the Av99 bot shows the universe and world information, but I
totally forgot that the Xelagot also does this. I've been using the Av99
for so long I forgot what the Xelagot interface looks like. :)

However, your script information will come in handy for a small
experiment I am doing. Thanks again for your help.

Running multiple scripts with Xelagot

Jun 20, 2004, 3:24am
I'm pretty sure you can only run one script per bot, but your script can
be spanned or make use of multiple files. If you need to host more than
three bots, try XelaG's Av99bot instead of the Xelagot.

Bot hosting...

I do not believe you can successful use the Xelagot (X1) in a Linux
environment or on a shell. You could try using an emulation program, but
I'm not sure things would be 100% bug free. XelaG may be working on a
beta version that runs on Linux, but again, I'm sure there would be many
bugs that would need to be worked out before it would run smoothly. For
everything to work correctly, you need to run it on a Windows box like
Andras said.

Telegram Mute

Apr 28, 1998, 11:59pm
I also agree to this. If there is a way to make it so you can not be seen in
others worlds, then there can be a way to now show telegrams at a certain point
in time. I personally get bogged down with them when I start Active Worlds,
and when people see me on AW, even more ppl send them to me while I am reading
my old ones. I usually log into AW to check something out and then surf the
Web for awhile in Netscape (not the "AW Web Window" ;-), getting, yet again,
more telegrams (forgetting to close down AW). Maybe even have it send an
automated response saying, "User is currently busy. Please try at another
time." Please, add this much-wanted feature, for the users' sake!

capture and animalia

May 2, 1998, 12:52pm
I've found this other program called HyperCam. It also let's you capture
..AVI's of the screen with sound off of your microphone (or no sound at all,
so you can add it later). It does take up a lot of disk space per .AVI
file, and it does have this little "HyperCam Unregistered" "sticker" at the
top right of the .AVI. But I'm sure if you did a search somewhere, you
could find a way to get rid of that little "sticker" (hint, hint ;-). You
can get it at: http://www.hyperionics.com/www/hypercam.htm. Also, there is
a program called Emblaze Creator (which costs WAY too much for me ;-), but
has a downloadable demo at http://www.emblaze.com/. It let's you convert
any .AVI file into a STREAMING JAVA animation over the Web. Now, if you
want just stand-alone JPEG or GIF screen captures, I would go with
Clip'nSave. You can find it here: http://www.dynalinktech.com/. I think
it is the BEST screen capture program for AW. It doesn't make any
"unsightly edges" or "blops" on the screen or any "distortions" and looks
very rich and crisp. If you have any questions or comments, please just
E-Mail me at builderz at geocities.com instead of posting to this newsgroup, if
you feel you don't want to bug ppl. ;-)

Naming Coordinates

Apr 30, 1998, 9:14am
Hi. I just thought of an old idea I really loved, and thought that it
wouldn't be too hard to implement. Say you have property at 123n 123w,
or maybe even 8326.6 n 3586.9e. Just as worlds do, it would be nice to
have on the title bar something that you would call your house or
building. So, if I teleported to 123n 123w, the title bar would read
"Active Worlds - yourname's Building", or whatever you wanted it say,
_instead_ of the coordinates. And there would be an option to have it
show the regular coords and the names of the coords. It would display
sort of like Netscape's title bar on Web browsers. It says
"thehomepagetitle - Netscape." I hope you understand what I mean. ;-)

multiple recipients

May 2, 1998, 12:36pm
That'd be a good idea, sort of like the ICQ mass message feature. Just, I
don't know if the COF server(s) would be able to do a load that quickly or
efficiently as ICQ's optimized "for-chat-only" servers, if you know what I
mean. But if you were only sending to like two or three people, it would
probably work fine.
