[View Quote] Hmm...where to begin? First, get rid of the <meta name="generator" content="Namo WebEditor v3.0"> tag on your pages. We don't need to see what HTML editor you use. This also saves a very small amount of bandwidth as well (people like Eep always hound on wasting bandwidth). Second, get rid that blasted pop-up window. Also, there is an error with it. You have: "Dont forget to the sign up for the Active-Worlds Newsletter Now!!!" but it should read "Don't forget to sign up for the Active Worlds Newsletter Now!!!" Third, on the Web Design page, there is no "Contact" button to contact you like it says to do (there may indeed be one, but at least I can't see one). Fourth, on the Resources page, the link on the "Enter Now!" graphic works fine, but the text link above it produces a 404 Not Found error. Fifth, add the City4All universe to your Downloads section. > I'm considering gettings a newsgroup set up for AW and the occasional off > topic posts. So long as there are no flames. But would really attract you > all to my site and become a regukar visiter? No; no more new newsgroups. We already have enough of those as it is. Your messageboard at http://www.coolboard.com/ is just fine. You'll eventually get hits sooner or later. You could design the best, most enthralling site on the Web, but if no one knows about it, no one will visit it. It happens to everyone, even the best webmasters out there. Just keep at it. Good luck. Builderz Stuff-X - Bot & World Hosting Services http://www.stuffx.com/aw/ TestMar 19, 2001, 5:26pm
Welcome to the newsgroups, Leaf. ;o) Please do not post in HTML, though.
Many users dislike it as it wastes more bandwidth than posting in plain text. Builderz Stuff-X - Bot & World Hosting Services http://www.stuffx.com/aw/ Announcing our new Hosting PricesApr 3, 2001, 10:34pm
How are the Stuff-X prices "bad"? Most of them are lower than
Activeworlds.com, Inc.'s yearly charge of $199 USD for personal world servers. I admit the original prices I first had on the site were high, but the current pricing on the website is fine in my opinion. Like others have said in this newsgroup, if you don't or can't pay the price, than go elsewhere. There are not many commercial Active Worlds hosting companies that I have come across with pricing starting at under $10 USD monthly. [View Quote] <snip> > BTW I checked the trademark thingy and there isn`t any StuffX. . . . "Stuff-X" nor "StuffX" are registered trademarks in the United States Patent and Trademark Office. "ImaTowns" is not either. It is legal to use the trademark symbol (TM) if you have not official registered it in the United States Patent and Trademark Office. It is illegal to use the registered symbol (R) next to it, however, if you have not official registered it. Lanezeri's comments have nothing to do with trademark infringement, but with copyright infringement. They are two totally different things. It seems you forgot to quote the other telegram I sent to you just after
this one. I said something to the effect of: "What else is there to talk about? Send me an e-mail at sawran at yahoo.com." Who said I "won't talk to you?" I have tried my best to not make this into a flame war, but this most recent post seems to make it even more of one. I have asked you twice now to make modifications to the website, and in my view, it still seems that there are some infringing areas that remain on your site. If you did not infringe upon my copyright, then what do you have to worry about if I contact your website hosting provider/company? I highly suggest you read "Copyright Registration for Derivative Works" located at http://www.loc.gov/copyright/circs/circ14.pdf. Makaveli, I am very glad to see you support me and my company, but
please, there is no need for this fighting with J B E L L. I have politely asked J B E L L to remove the "Stuff-W" page off of his website, and he did, in a timely fashion. Yesterday we were talking and in my opinion we seemed to patch things up between each other. The last thing I want to do or want to happen is to initiate another fight with him. Again, I thank you for your continued interest with Stuff-X, Makaveli, but your attitude is not helping very much. Builderz Stuff-X - Bot & World Hosting Services http://www.stuffx.com/aw/ P.S. Just to clarify, Leaf, I never said I would "sue" you. I said: "there is
a very good chance I will seek legal action." "Legal action" has a few different definitions. It could mean to consult a lawyer, send you and/or your website hosting company a "cease and desist" letter composed by a lawyer, OR to sue someone. The suing method is my very last resort and I do not want to even look into it before exhausting all of my other options. I've been thinking about this whole situation for quite some time now, and I think I have reached a reasonable conclusion. I will e-mail you more information this weekend about it, Leaf. And in case you were wondering, it does NOT involve a lawyer. Builderz Stuff-X - Bot & World Hosting Services http://www.stuffx.com/aw/ [View Quote] AWJBell Services New Pricing!Apr 8, 2001, 1:20pm

Its a US based cable/cable modem Internet Service Provider (ISP). Most
local cable companies "team up" with at Home and just put their name in front of the at Home designation (for example, Comcast at Home, RoadRunner at Home, etc). Look at http://www.home.com/qa.html for more information. Its against their Terms of Service to host ANY type of server if you have an account with them, yet many people still do and haven't been caught yet. Sorry to hear about your hard drive troubles, Jeiden. Unfortunately, I
don't know of any coordinates to any of your build sites. Although, I may have a program that can help prevent your hard drive from doing this again. It is called SpinRite and is made by Steve Gibson. More information about it can be found here: http://grc.com/spinrite.htm. Everything looks good, Andras, except for a few things. You say that you
should open UDP port 53 (DNS) if hosting a server, yet you may also need to add it to the Active Worlds Browser to determine the auth server's IP address as well as world object path IP addresses. Also, I have been hosting several worlds for months now without ever needing to open any UDP ports on admin.exe or winworld.exe (not even UDP port 53) and have not encountered any problems. There is one thing to note however about restricting port access in ZoneAlarm Pro. Not all hosters use the 7000 - 7999 port range to host their world servers on. If you cannot access a certain world, look in the "Alerts" tab of ZoneAlarm Pro to see if a port was trying to communicate with the Active Worlds Browser. You will see a message like: "Active Worlds Browser was not allowed to connect to XXX." Add that port in your Active Worlds Browser rule in ZoneAlarm Pro and you should then be able to enter. Finally, the settings on your page do not account for the use of the built-in browser (Internet Explorer). You will probably need to add TCP ports 1024 and up to be able to use the built-in web browser. Besides these small flaws, I appreciate you creating that page to help fellow firewall users of Active Worlds technology. If a newbie ever asks "How do I configure AW to work with ZAP?", I can safely refer them to your page and use my time saved trying to help them configure ZAP for better things. :) Builderz Stuff-X - Bot & World Hosting Services http://www.stuffx.com/aw/ [View Quote] AW behind firewall or NAT based routersApr 18, 2001, 10:36pm

[View Quote] > To be honest I did not have the DNS prot open but I mentioned it just in case someone runs into it as a > problem. (My DNS server is actually on the local zone - I have my own DNS server) You are correct. I forgot about users that have/run a local DNS server such as yourself. *smacks himself* =) > Strangely enough the built in browser connects through UDP port in the range of 2900-2999 (at least those > tests I made all fell within this range) Hmm...I tested it and it started at around UDP port 2001. I think it tries to use the first port not already in use to connect to a website, which can vary on system to system. For example, if I just freshly rebooted my system, it may try to connect on UDP port 1037 while someone who has been doing heavy web surfing, downloading, etc. prior to using the browser may connect at UDP port 3011. > Thanks for the comments. With your "implicit" permission I used your correction's phrasing on the webpage :) Although it'd be nice to have a link back to Stuff-X... (just kidding) that is fine by me. =) Again, great work on the page and I hope it will benefit many people. Builderz Stuff-X - Bot & World Hosting Services http://www.stuffx.com/aw/ I DESPERATELY NEED YOUR HELP!Apr 18, 2001, 10:54pm
The reason at Home sent J B E L L a warning e-mail is because hosting ANY
type of server is against at Home's Terms of Service agreement. J B E L L doesn't want to have his entire cable modem access revoked, so he is complying with at Home and shutting down his servers. at Home probably wants their users to sign up for their at Work service (in which you CAN host servers), designed for businesses. The at Work service is more expensive per month, so in turn, at Home (the company) makes more money. This isn't entirely how it works, but it a simplified explanation. [View Quote] Then why did you ask "Why are they doing that?????????" if you can come up with the answer yourself? > but still even if they are using more bandwith why should they be doing that, its the same > if someone has cabel and leaves napster on 24/7 its basicaly the same thing. You are probably correct. I don't use at Home so I wouldn't know if Napster or other similar peer-to-peer software would be considered a "server." > Bet they dont get napster users about that >:-) You people act like I dont know anything. What people? Who said/acted like you don't know anything? You just asked a question and I tried to answer it. > WHATS WRONG WITH YOU especaly the people > from StuffX and there stuff you guys have problems, one question How many of "your" bots do you sell > Or how about how many worlds do you host? Do you even sell anything? "The people" from Stuff-X are just myself and two bot developers. What problems DO we have? Care to elaborate? Whatever other employees of Stuff-X say or do are their own actions, not an official response from Stuff-X itself. It is perfectly fine if you do or do not like me as a person, yet bashing the entire Stuff-X name is unnecessary. Stuff-X sells both bot and world hosting and plans to sell bots using Active Worlds technology in a few months. How many bots do we host? Well, look at the "Our Customers" section of our website, located at http://www.stuffx.com/aw/#Customers. We currently host four bots and six worlds. > Who would bother? Cuz I know me and J B E L L would never use your stuff > cuz it sucks. Who would bother? Well, again, look at our current customers. If what you say is true (your blunt comment about both you and J B E L L saying Stuff-X's service "sucks"), could you please give one or more reasons as to WHY it sucks? Just saying something sucks without giving a reason does not help any. Do you experience lag in worlds we host? Do you think our website should be changed somehow? If you or J B E L L would expand/elaborate on this and give valid reasons as to why our service may be lacking, we will look at those reasons try to improve our service based upon your response. I have installed it, used it, and have not had a great performance
increase. The system I installed it on has an AMD Non-Thunderbird Athlon 600 MHz with 256 MB of RAM. Similar to your experience, Tribes 2 actually performed SLOWER with Hare running than without it. My frames per second dropped and missions took almost double the time to load. I did not try to uninstall Hare, but if you remove it from your Startup folder (or go into msconfig.exe, depending on which Windows version you are using), you can stop it from loading each time you boot.
