WOO WOO! Hi there, neighbor :-) I live in Happy Peace Bunny Friendship
Land too! I am on Loving Lane, where abouts is your place?

I'm sorry but I am not changing my password to make a couple of kids
happy that they freaked out a bunch of world owners by pretending to have
hacked their passwords. You have been found out kids, so why don't you
call a few of your neighbors and ask them if their refrigerator is
running and suggest that they catch it?

Tourist enabled worlds

I had to call Activeworlds today over another issue regarding one of my
worlds. While I had Noelle on the phone I politely asked about whether
there would be a way that tourists would know what worlds they can visit.
She said their programmers are currently working on a feature that would
change the color of the dot next to the worlds on the world list that
tourists would know they were allowed on that particular world. Don't
know how long this is in coming though. I told Noelle that until AW got
their act together, I would save my money. I would be willing to pay
$60/year to allow tourists on one of my worlds if I thought it would in
someway save AW from losing potential citizens. Obviously we need to help
them save themselves *sigh* because they are of a mind set that tourists
will be jumping through hoops to put down their hard earned cash based on
their impressions of the Gate!? Pleesszzee

I am also of the opinion (and Lara and I have spoken of this, thus her
other posting) that allowing tourists on AWSchool could only be a move
for the better. I have written ENZO as well (not that I really expected a
reply )

Oh man :( In view of this past week this thread sickens me. I just want
to return to some form of my life before the tragedy in my country. I
want to know that my life is safe once again and more importantly I want
to be able to escape to my virtual world for solstice. Memorial World is
a world that AWCOM created so the AW community could come together and
mourn and could leave a build if they wished. It is my understanding that
One Summer was asked by AWCOM to get this world put together (ground
zero, lots, everything) so it could be open this weekend for folks to
come in and leave something (anything) that would help them cope and
perhaps give them something to do -- a way of dealing with the horror. I
went into Memorial last night (Friday night my time USA West Coast) to
find a very tired frantic One Summer trying to keep things going there.
She had not slept the night before as she was awake most of the night
laying land and trying to make the world right for the AW citizens. I
understand what deadlines are like so I volunteered to help out. She put
me on greeting patrol :-) It was very rewarding as I don't live near the
disaster sites to be able to offer my help in the real world. Just In was
there as well. I don't know him that well and I greeted him and he helped
me get started. I told him when we ran out of lots for the people to
build on and he went and made some new lots while I was greeting.

My opinion of One Summer and Just In is that they seem to be very nice
folks and community minded. Enuf said about them except that they were
not responsible for the "bot copied" builds. An AW employee bot copied
those builds and a sign has been erected at GZ Memorial to the people
whose builds they copied that if the builders object, their builds will
be removed. One of the builds copied was a good friend of mine (Myssie)
and if I were she I would be flattered that my build was that good. Heck,
I WISH they had copied my build. Copying my build? That is a high form of
flattery in my mind. Lara of the AW object yard offers teleports to all
her builds so that people can use her ideas, and copy her...

Chuck's Party is a really good friend of mine and hopefully that will not
change after this post. I love Chuck's need to "make the community aware
of any wrong doing" and I respect that in his mind he is trying to help
the community at large. Chuck was one of the best assistants I ever had
on Nova where he still has eminent domain. I do not fear that this post
will make Chuck angry at me enough to destroy Nova because basically
Chuck is a very nice person and wants the world to be the way he views it
should be. He would not stoop that low to punish me for saying something
nice about One Summer and Just In by destroying my world. Chuck is too
nice for that but I know sometimes it is hard to understand where a
person is coming from by just reading his/her posts here. Chuck needs to
step back a bit though on this one and think about the real reason for
the Memorial world. Memorial world helped me and my husband. We both
spent many hours watching our country attacked. We cried together, day
after day --- last week was a horror! In addition, on Friday I learned
that my boss has terminal cancer. Last night I came online and saw that
AW had created Memorial. I went in there and created a small build and my
husband helped me although he doesn't frequent AW. So Memorial did what
it was supposed to do. It became a place for folks to go to talk about
the horror, to leave a message in the form of a build ...

In closing I am hoping we can end this ugly post and flame war. JFK made
a list of people hating One Summer and Just In and added another friend
of mine PeteHetherington [and his wife] and I know for a fact that this
is not true. Pete and his wife have no ax to grind with OS or JI. He also
added FriendPA who is a sweetheart and I doubt hates anyone. He also
added Fender Strait whom I know and seriously doubt hates anyone (maybe
he is one that dislikes them) but I doubt it. JFK seems to invent things
as he needs to and that is scary. I wish that JFK could find the peace
that he so desperately needs because I'm sure in his heart he is a good
person.

As far as the original posts about New York (owned by FriendPA) and
Broadway (owned by One Summer) my thinking was that Just In should not
have done what he did with his objects. Making a mirror world was wrong
as we can see from the aftermath ... maybe a world called Los Angeles
would have been a better move but it is far too late to go there
especially now that there is no longer a World Trade Center in New
York...

Peace and Love to all of you. I rarely post here because Eep usually
tries to make me look foolish and makes himself look so instead, but I
needed to say this. I continue to read the ngs however...

I would like to say something written by a voice of my generation (I
graduated from High School in 1969)

ALL WE ARE SAYING
IS GIVE PEACE A CHANCE

Building Space Available

Attention Citizens and Tourists:

If you love to build, you need to see the world NOVA. We are well into our
4th year as a world and we do not delete builds unless they are abandoned.
Take a walk through Nova and you will see what we mean. We keep our builders
builds unless they start a property and do not complete it. NOVA has an
object world called IMPLODE so you can see what we have to offer over and
above AW objects. We accept MOST AW objects and textures as well. If you
need an AW object/texture you just need to email me and I will add it for
you. We also custom some things for our builders. Nova has no real theme so
you are encouraged to create your own unique build. Tourists have a real
advantage there as we have had very little vandalism. So if you love to
build, NOVA might be the world to put that special build in! I need to tell
you though, because we do not restrict builds (except no x rated or racial
builds), we do have some lag in places on Nova. Our builders do have a
tendency to build using a lot of "create animates" and adding sounds :)
NOVA is a 3.1 enhanced world which means you can use the new 3.1 rotate/move
commands there. So if you have a 56k modem or above and love to build visit
Nova! At GZ are instructions on how to get a lot and it is painless, I
assure you :)

Hope to welcome you to the NOVA community

ATTENTION NOVA BUILDERS POSSIBLE CLOSING

Jan 10, 2002, 1:50am
Hello all -

I am posting this after a lot of soul searching. I am the owner of the
build world called NOVA which has been in existence for 4 years. It comes
up for renewal in March. It is a world that goes to 90 meters in all
directions, therefore my renewal fee is quite steep ($840 American
dollars).

Until the deletion of the tourists and the recent "new plan" of the
management of AW, I had every intension of renewing NOVA in March. I am
not really sure that I can do it now and still feel confident that I will
get my year's worth of NOVA's existence. In other words, I am afraid that
the decision regarding tourists will ultimately bankrupt AW. I would
NEVER agree to give out my credit card number to try out a program that I
have never seen. Sorry but it is reality... :(

I have worked for companies that have gone under and it is a sad thing to
see. It is particularly sad if you are a part of that company (in this
case, community) for many years as I have been. If it were only the
citizenship price increase that we were talking about I would gladly give
AW $10/month to enjoy their wonderful program. I know many of you cannot
afford that but fortunately I can and my decision would be to stay with
it and see what happens. I have an $840 decision to make in regards to my
world. I don't want to be a fool, renew my world, and find myself in a
long line of creditors that will get NOTHING when AW folds. NOVA has
never been about me, btw. It has existed from its beginnings as a
builder's world. I have personally spent many hours working on making it
what it is, and I have felt very good about helping the community in this
way. As I write this, I feel very saddened and disappointed. NOVA's
object world, Implode was just renewed in December before the "big bang"
as I call it so it is "good to go" for those World owners using my path.

I have always been an active member of the AW community. I serve on the
CY committee and was one of the founders of the group, WOW (Women Owning
Worlds). I have probably bought (or given away) no less than 20
citizenships to tourists over the years when I have seen potential in
them and a love of AW. NOVA has always been open to tourist building.
Obviously I will no longer be able to give away citizenships with the new
price increase and am writing this message to warn my builders about a
possible closure of NOVA in March.

I want to give all my past and present builders (yes, I have builds on
NOVA that date back to 1998) the chance to come into NOVA and copy their
artwork aka builds by bot. You may use your bot or a friend's bot, but
please just let me know which citizen number I need to add to allow the
bot into NOVA. You can email me or telegram me online.

I would like to thank all the wonderful helpers I have had on NOVA over
the years and you know who you are :) This is not saying I am definitely
closing NOVA it is just a warning that I may have to. If AW does not
change their tourist policy and things remain as have been the last week
or so I will not be renewing my world.

I will be calling AW either tomorrow or Friday with my idea for tourists
and hopefully it will help. It may mean some rewrite of the program but I
think tourists should be able to log on as a trial citizen for a month
(no prior credit card, etc) but they would NOT have the right to build. I
think that any tourist that likes the program would want to build and as
I said above $10/mo is not that horrible a price to pay for a program
like AW. After 30 days they would not be able to log back on.

Meanwhile I go back to my world to break the news at ground zero. BTW
anyone that likes to build and just wants a lot to play around with the
new commands, etc contact me and I will give you a lot on NOVA to play
in.

Sincerely,

Irene Schaft aka Wings0nite and WingsOnite and ECOL

Ohhh I forgot to mention something ... AOL HELL understands marketing.
It is a pity that AW does not follow some of AOL's ideas. Sending out
coasters (err CD's) is not a bad move :-) Having free AW CD's with 1
month free (or 1000 hours as AOL advertises) is not a bad idea... just
ask Steve Case how much of a salary raise he has received because of
AOL's tremendous growth?!

AW has never marketed their product correctly. Granted AOLHell appeals to
the newbies to computers but AW should follow the same action plan and
appeal to newbies to chat. When Aw made the deal with Juno I hoped they
were on the right track, apparently NOT :((

ATTENTION NOVA BUILDERS POSSIBLE CLOSING

Jan 11, 2002, 3:26am
I just signed on AW and received a telegram from another world owner who
deleted her build on Nova because she did not want me to "take it to
another universe".... obviously, she missed the point :( Again, I will
clarify ....

I am not "jumping ship" I am not going to a new universe or taking my
world to a new universe. I am not leaving AW. I will stick by them to the
bitter end. AW is my virtual home. I love it here and have no plans to
move anything (myself or my world) to another universe. In fact, if I can
actually talk to someone at AW and they reassure me that they have a plan
to save AW then I WILL renew Nova in March.

My concern right now is renewing Nova if it is obvious in March that they
are not going to make it. Why should I send them $840 renewal fee if they
will only be around for two or three more months? Hello? Am I speaking
Greek here? You think they will contact me to make arrangements to refund
the difference for Nova being down and not available? Of course not! They
will be bankrupt and I can write off my world AND my money.

I have one other point to make and it regards the tourists. This world
owner (who I respect and therefore will not mention) implied that my
decision was about the tourists leaving... I will clarify once again.
This is NOT about tourists, it is about renewing a world for $840 with a
company that has obviously made some very bad decisions and may go
bankrupt as a result. The tourist decision was the worst one made by AW
(in my humble opinion) because some tourists actually become citizens. I
am anxiously waiting to hear AW's ideas on how they plan to bring in new
citizens and further market AW, so my much loved virtual home will
remain.

Sincerely,

Irene Schaft aka Wings0nite aka WingsOnite aka ECOL

ATTENTION NOVA BUILDERS POSSIBLE CLOSING

Hello all :)

A thank you for all of you who either answered my post here or sent me
email. I appreciate the response :)

I think I have found a solution that will help my Nova builders and
reassure me without wiping out Nova entirely :-) My host for Nova has
always been Russ aka DMghost (Synergycorp). I just sent him an email
about this situation and asked him to work with me on it (which I know
that he will) PLUG HERE Synergycorp is a fantastic host if you are
needing one :)))

Anyway what I want him to do is backup Nova close to my last remaining
days. I will close Nova at the end of February to assure that there are
no new builds. He will back it up for me. I will renew Nova as a much
smallar world (like going to 20). I will then keep Nova closed until such
time I have the reassurance from AW that they are going to make it. At
that time I will call them and enlarge Nova back to 90 meters and have
Russ use the final backup to restore it.

This way my builders will keep their builds. They will be in virtual
suspension for a few months but they won't be lost. How about that for a
solution? LOL And I lost sleep over this? I knew deep down that somehow
there was an answer :-)

To all of you that emailed me ........ it was overwhelming, and I am
sorry I could not answer you all but believe me I could NOT believe the
responses to my posts here in email! I appreciate all the advice and
concern :) ummmm eep is not here any longer people You MAY post here
again without being slaughtered LOL :)

Hugs and stuff,

New World For Builders Just Opened

Jan 20, 2002, 4:46am
Hello everyone!

Chuck's Party has left AW and is off to a new universe and has given me
his world, Elysium. Actually it has been passed back and forth from me to
him and now him to me but to make a long story short I now have it again.

My host, Synergycorp, has taken over the hosting. I'm not sure when it
expires but since it is still under the old world sizing plan and is not
a large world (only goes to 20 meters) I plan on renewing it.

Currently I am working on the GZ area, but the lots are ready for anyone
who is interested in building there. There are two size lots (5X5 and
5X7). Since I do not have a registry on Elysium, I will have to have the
citizen number of anyone interested in building so I can add you as a
builder. The lots are not covered and will be given out on a first come,
first serve basis. You can email me at wings at ilschaft.com with your
citizen number or telegram me online.

The theme of Elysium is a quiet community of homes, castles, or parks
surrounded by forest (with a fantasy bend) so please no office
structures, space stations ... please try to keep the theme. The object
path is the same one as Nova uses and the object world is the world
Implode.

I hope to see some of you on the new Elysium enjoying building there!

Another world gone :(

Mar 18, 2002, 6:40am
Hello all --

I felt a post was necessary because today when I came into my world,
Nova, I saw this: "Warning: this world expires in 25 days."

Nova was established in 1998 and I have allowed the builds to remain from
the beginning. I kept increasing my world. I went to 40 meters then 50
and eventually got to the 90 meter point, where I am now. I did it for
the builders there. I paid so people could build on Nova and express
themselves. It was a fun thing for me as well, because I experimented in
making things and helping my builders. Well I have a hard decision to
make. Renewing Nova will cost me $860 which I have planned on and I have
readily available. HOWEVER with the NEW AW, I am not feeling the warm
fuzzies. I am seeing bankrupcy, and me in line with many others never to
see my money again :( I have been alerting my builders since January what
my decision is. My decision is to renew Nova but as a smallar world. My
host is backing it up for me so if AW makes it, after these crazy
decisions, I will bring Nova back to 90 meters.

Am I the only one here with real concerns?

And another thing comes to mind... I had 5 citizenships as well. These
were not world related. I created these myself they were not world cits
and obviously I will not be renewing them. I have given 2 away already to
friends who were not going to renew. I have one left that I have a taker
for already. So AW will not get the money for these and I have to wonder
how many other people have extra cits they will not renew. I plan to
renew 2 out of 5.

Your comments are appreciated :)

This sucks big time,

Talisan -

I've done business with Shan in the past for some objects and I feel he
was more than fair with me. I happened to notice in his telegram to you
he said "you have criticized my Art for the last time..." which makes me
wonder how much criticism was made prior to this incident?! Perhaps this
was the first time, but it does not appear to be from his telegram.
My experiences with Shan have been very good ones, in fact on several
occasions he actually gave me some objects he made, and gave the same
objects to friends of mine when I asked him to.

[AWNews] Stirring the Virtual Melting Pot: Sept. 2002

In article <3D7FEAB4.1060106 at utn.cjb.net>, gooberking at utn.cjb.net says...
> Where Were You When...?

Goob, I am really glad you started this post. Some folks here will
probably tell you it should have been posted in "general discussion" but
OH WELL :-)

My story is this:

Last September 11th I was on the left coast, living in a small town in
Central California (God's country). The day started as usual with my
husband's alarm waking me at 5:30am and my snoozing while he showered and
such. After he left for work, I grumbled and got out of bed to get ready
to start my job as a Loan Processor at the local Chase Manhattan Mortgage
branch office (I really loved that job and the people I worked with). I
hate getting up in the morning, I am NOT a morning person but since I was
going to a job and a place I liked, it was okay. My job starting time was
8am so I usually crawled out of bed about 6:30am right after hubby left.
Since I lived in a small town, my job was only a 5 minute drive from my
house. I always did two things in the morning: 1) Switched on the TV to
CNN (our local news station basically sucked) 2) Made a 4 cup pot of
coffee to get me started. Sept 11, 2001 was no different. I grabbed the
remote, switched on the TV, and made my way to the kitchen. I got the
coffee started and went back to the bedroom that my ill cat was using (he
was 20 years old and sick, he died 6 weeks later) and checked up on him.
He had made a mess during the night, so I went into the garage to grab
some cleaning things to clean it up. That probably took 10-15 minutes
because I spent some quality time with him. By this time it was about 10
minutes to 7 Pacific (almost 10am Eastern). I went back to the kitchen,
grabbed a cup of java and a cigarette and went back to the bedroom
planning to spend 10 minutes watching CNN before starting my shower.

Here is where it got hairy ... Entering the bedroom I looked at the TV to
see the 1st plane hitting the North tower. I thought I was walking in on
a commercial for a new movie "Towering Inferno 2" or something. I settled
down on the bed to watch. Then I saw the take on the 2nd plane hitting
the South tower. At this point I was beginning to realize that this might
be REAL. The thought kinda crept up on me slowly ... I'm thinking "OMG,
is this really happening?" I watched as CNN flipped back and forth to
some coverage about a possible terrorist attack and the hint that other
planes had been hijacked. I got a very bad feeling immediately and began
to worry about my younger sister who lives in Baltimore but does a lot of
flying for her company.

Once I finally decided that this was indeed real, I called my husband.
While I was talking to him the attack on the Pentagon was being
broadcast. I asked my husband "have you heard yet?" He says "what?"
reasonably so, and I said "Our country is under attack! They have
destroyed the World Trade Center in New York and I am currently watching
coverage from Washington DC Looks like they hit the Pentagon as well". He
asked if I was going to work, I said Yes I would go in. I then called my
jobplace and got Doug our only PITA. Doug is like "Loan Officer of the
Year" and is all about the almighty buck. When Doug realized it was me,
his first comment was "What? I have put a client on hold to take your
call" I asked him if he knew what was happening. He said no, and I told
him to turn on the TV there, after he spoke to his client, as our country
was at war. When I arrived at work, Doug was in the conference room
watching the TV which is what we all did most of the day.

I managed to get my brother in law on the phone later that day. My sister
was safe, and had phoned him from someplace in Pennsylvanna. Her plane
was asked to land there and she and 2 strangers had rented a car and were
driving back to Baltimore. My sister sent me an email yesterday in which
she expressed a lot of feelings as she was "remembering 9/11/01 as the
day she was in the air with 4 hijacked planes and wondering if they would
ever make it to the airport they were directed to land in". She further
expressed the numb feeling she had while driving back to Baltimore with
two strangers who were equally as numb.

Yes we will always remember, and we all have our tale to tell ...

Clee, we love you Fund

Nov 13, 2002, 1:36am
Hello all -

As many of you know, Clee is very ill in a hospital in Illinois with an
Intestinal Fistula. There is a Get Well building site for Clee on AW at
23870.07N 2401.92E 0.45a 180 which keeps us all updated on his progress. He
and his family need our prayers right now, as things have been "touch and
go" with him since he was admitted.

Activeworlds Inc has agreed to set up a fund and collect any donations we
may wish to send on his behalf. This situation is financially draining, and
any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. Checks can be made out
to Activeworlds, Inc and sent to their address: 95 Parker Street;
Newburyport, Ma. 01950. Please write in lower left hand corner of the
envelope: "Clee we love you fund". Credit card donations will be accepted as
well, either by email or by calling Activeworlds at (978) 499-0222.

Thank you all in advance on behalf of Clee's family.

Bin Laden has a right to be angry so much so that he kills 3000 innocent
people? Um, please explain that???

I think he
has
> to realize we can not control our Government anymore than he can.

Mr. Bruce: I actually respect you a lot, as an ex world owner who took her
world to 90 and then had to delete because of AW's new pricing structure, I
understand. I have several smallar worlds still here. We can't change
anything, Mr. Bruce :( AW has plotted their destruction. But for you to say
that Bin Laden had a reason to kill 3000 innocent people scares me,
seriously. Bin Laden is a seriously religious SICKO. We need to address his
needs and the needs of any other religious sickos..... and make sure THEIR
defination of GOD doesn't bring destruction. Too many wars and deaths have
been because of private beliefs in a god head. The Spanish Inquisation is a
good example. We as a race have killed too many people over religion. It
really sucks. Religion is a private thing. It is something we should keep to
ourselves. It certainly has killed a lot of people over the centuries....
Personally, I don't believe in god. I think that is best. God is LIFE and
life is in all of us, so LIFE is GOD. That is what I believe. So I am amazed
when people kill other people in god's name.

[View Quote] Brock, listen to me for a second, okay? I am a lot older than you and wiser
for the years I have. I know you are young and consider me crazy. I felt the
same way at your age. I thought all the old folk were dumb, and crazy. I was
17 in 1969. I graduated from high school that year :-) We all protested the
Vietnam war and felt we had did a good thing.

What you are saying makes sense, the current war sucks but has anyone sent
you the Islasm stuff?
It is horrible. If you want to see it, contact me. I HATE war, but shit
happens.

E N Z O has stated here in the newsgroups that the flagg worlds will stay
:-) I am happy you decided to put in a plug for it though :-) I have a
couple more avatars to add this weekend, so we are moving forward. Spending
a lot of time working on my novel, but I get in there when I can...

Okay you can kill me now...

Jul 4, 2003, 4:01am
I hate posting here. Why? Because a few folks think that they are AW and
understand it totally. I joined AW in 1997 and owned a world, Nova, which I
just let expire. It was a hard decision to make, but $840 a year was a
little more than I wanted to spend to allow people to build. When AW went to
the tourist thing, I saw the numbers dropping. I no longer wanted a part of
it. I still own 3 worlds but they are much smaller. Will I renew them? It
depends.

The owners of AW have become weird lately. They refuse to allow tourists to
visit various worlds to make a decision if they want to spend the money to
join. Folks like me are dropping like flies. I have had several of my
friends on AW call me in the real world because they are concerned I do not
come into AW anymore. I am fine and am writing my book. AW seems to be
sucking a lot lately.

Will I renew my worlds? I doubt it. I will renew my friend's world, as she
is into it. She cannot renew it on her budget. I will do that for her and
complete my build there. My worlds are dead.

So, kill me now. I've said some really bad things. I have said AW will NOT
survive. It will not be here a year from now. Trust me on this. I am moving
on...
