Next AW Newsletter

What the hell? It'd be easy to write a program that modifies those files in
vb or c++ or any lang down to basic. What is that guy smokin?

Yaw calculations?

Feb 28, 2000, 3:05am
Alright, my bot moves from point A to point B fine. The problem is it
sometimes does it backwards, sideways, etc. I need to find an equation
which calculates yaw based on a given set of two points, the bot's current
X/Z and it's target X/Z thanks for your help.

Yaw calculations?

Feb 29, 2000, 3:43am
Oh thats great dude, thanks for the math.
I'm assuming I plug in the tangent of the triangle fo arctan. I'll have to
put that function into vb but that'll take like 2secs.Thats really cool, now
my blimps and such wont try to do the moonwalk and impress everyone.

BTW here is what my bot is being designed to do -

Basics :
o Basic AI functions (Not too cheezy, just small talk, weather, etc)
o Land reservation (Covers any ammount of land with any object quickly) :
Done
o Random motion including motion patterns
o Music
o Building repetition patterns. Need a 10000ft spiral staircase? Np

Cool Stuff :
o Advanced building AI. I am in the process of 'teaching' the bot to
understand architecture including the concepts of walls, flooring, ceilings,
entrance passages 'decoration', road access, location, etc.
This will allow the bot to create entire citys or world in minutes.
o Shadowing (Will create 'shadow' by moving a translucent box as the person
moves to give the impression of darkness)
o Hindenberg scenario : Blimp flys around randomly, every once in a while
crashes in flames. (Really cool =)

Top 10 wishes for aw3

Feb 29, 2000, 4:21am
Id like to see some diff stuff. I havent really read the docs yet tho

1. More advanced download queues/priorities (incl. background DLing of
common models when idle)
2. SHADOWING - This'll be done by DX
3. Models with moving parts

Compact Action Field Format...

Mar 1, 2000, 3:01am
I don't know what header format AW uses to send data of this nature, but
using abreviations might involve the need for longer headers to distinguish
data.
Also, the 'no spaces' idea is going to be very hard to implement. For
instance, how does the browser know to interpret at100N50S as two distinct
commands and then arguments instead of trying to interpret it as one command
(the unabreviated substitute)? True it could look for an action with no
spaces, but then what happens when someone decides to use a space after the
first command and none after the second?

It's a great idea, I'm just trying to shine light on some of the logistics.

MP3 Support

Mar 1, 2000, 2:51am
This is a multi-part message in MIME format.

Yeah limiting the size of mp3s would work. The mp3 area is probably not =
the safest place for AW to go right now, as pirating issues woul become =
huge. I'm sure 'mp3 warehouses' and such places would spring up, =
offering all sorts of songs.
Winamp doesnt take much CPU load (I run AW, Winamp, two Visual Studio =
instances and 3 browsers at once with no prob on my P2300 64meg comp).

My question is this... why doesn't someone just make a frontend for =
mp3s? Only people who are in to them are gonna use them/care anyway and =
they'd all download the frontend software. Not sure about AW third =
party software limitations, but that shouldnt be a prob. If a non =
working action tag such as
create mp3 URL
were used, the frontend would pick up on it(using the sdk), download the =
mp3 and play it using it's own engine.
Not to difficult....anyone feel up to it? I'll work on it if noone else =
will.

my addition to the list

Mar 1, 2000, 2:54am
I, in fact, propose that we reduce the avatar count to about five. They
could be Michael Jackson through his various phases of 'development'. This
could explain any and all interesting or seemingly odd movements/actions.
Just a thought.....

Re: Nice feature to add to future versions.

Feb 29, 2000, 4:18am
Orator is an english word, no longer latin (although the same word and
oratio[speech] appeared in their lang), and yeah, PK is wierd. I remember
bein like scared of em when I came in because I'd played Diablo too much ;)
I remember bein afraid they'd delete my house or something.

Any idea about these features?

What about.....

1. More advanced download queues/priorities (incl. background DLing of
common models when idle)
2. SHADOWING - This'll be done by DX Im sure
3. Models with moving parts
4. Group clone/move/altering (You cant alter most object data as a group
w/out a bot)
5. Other things ;)
