The ONLY way to make any substantial money in AW is to make fantastic
and unique objects and avatars and sell them at cheap prices. Get what
you can up front as quick as you can because once you release an object
to someone you have lost all control of what happens to it. I've made
enough cash from selling objects in the past to pay for my world about 5
times over so if I keep my world for another year then I break even.
Don't expect to make a living at this or you will be very skinny and
very homeless. I shall repeat this once again and then I will not say
another word about the subject -----> fantastic and unique objects and

avatar visibility

May 16, 1998, 6:37pm
If an avatar is standing on the other side of a wall from you, you can
still see it. Is it possible to turn that off so that you have to look
around the wall to see the other avatar? Same is true for avatars
underground. It would make "hide n' seek" games much more fun and
challanging...

name color change

Jul 5, 2000, 3:47am
Changing colors of you name on contact lists so folks will know your
status by adding one more pulldown at the top row menu. Maybe call it
"status" or something similar.

black text could represent you are here and can chat with anyone.

red text could represent you are busy and not to be disturbed.

blue text could represent you are away from your keyboard at the moment.

green text could represent that you are building and should only be
interupted for important issues or informative (not to be responded to)
telegrams.

Comments?

yeah, the colors really don't matter much to me as long as there is a way to show your current

the trick too..

American Stars

I used to do that at America's GZ along time ago. It was quite enjoyable
to help folks get a good start with building and being a part of that
community. My friend Chadd gave me assistance when I first became a
citizen and he said his repayment would be for me to help others. I
followed that lead and asked those I helped to help others. I look upon
those times as "The Good Old Days"... Alas, things change and people
move on. I would highly recommend this job to anyone looking to be
involved with community spirit and I can't think of any better place
(other than my world) to be a part of a community than America...

yes it is possible.. a few years back in the Outerworlds universe they were

Proposal: The Dream Team

Dec 12, 2000, 2:14am
hahahahaha... $5.3 million... geeze.. I would think a mere $5000 to $10,000

would get you a program that would do everything AW does and more. I've
been exploring a bit on what is already out there available and with the
services of a decent programmer you could assemble your very own "Just Like
Active Worlds" and run it the way you want it to be run; source code is
everywhere... Heck, you could prolly just contact Exovision and buy their
now defunct 3D chat program (build, voice, avatars, multi-user, personal
"worlds", etc..) for a couple grand. A little tweaking and you'd have a
fine AW'ish program. Then, and here's the key, advertise!!!

USWF is just bullshit!

hmmm.. United States World Federation that wants to link up towns and worlds
from across AW... hmmm... granted there are many American users in AW but there
are a whole heap of non Americans as well.. you might do well with a minor
name change like ummm.. say United Community Federation or ummm.. AW Community
Federation... oh darn, looks like you already got a domain.. well good luck
in your quest to unite the worlds and towns under a United States banner...

USWF is just bullshit!

Dec 16, 2000, 6:45pm
nope.. United States equals Americans or the American culture.. say what you
mean/mean what you say.. take away everything else and then ask 1000 people what
United States means and you will get 1000 identical answers or very close to
identical; it means America (unless of course you are trying to make a point and will
say something like "United States" doesn't always equal "American"... It just
means a group of communities"). Before America there was no United States of anything
and since American any United States of anything seeks to emulate that society.
Don't get me wrong with my posts here, I think organizing worlds or towns is a good
thing since it allows the sharing of ideas, objects, talent etc... I just think the
name implys a bit of elitism or possibly a bit of exclusion if you are not American
or aligned with the American culture.. just my humble opinion, take it or leave it..

help with a new project

Dec 25, 2000, 8:57pm
Hello everyone... Some of you out there know me and I'm sure many
don't. I've been a citizen in AW for going on 4 years now and in my
time here I've modeled a bunch of objects and avatars, owned a bunch of
worlds and generally made a nuisance of myself in as many circles as I
could find. My worlds have ranged from sci-fi to pagan themes with
minimal participation at best. In my quest to crack that nut and put
forth a group of worlds where interest continues after the initial build
I've decided to, again, change gears and implement a new and hopefully
exciting idea surrounding my worlds. Soooo, here's my pitch:

I'm looking for folks that are bored with their current activity in AW
who are creative and willing to join up for the long haul. I have 3
worlds (online 24/7) and I'm creating a "role playing environment" which
links all three worlds together in the same "space" yet all three are
different in inhabitants and terrain. This RPE will be set in a distant
galaxy with no association (unless coincidental) to earth history. Each
world will have its own culture, religion, history, government etc and
my intent here is to hand over caretaker status to the leaders of two of
the worlds. I will retain the leadership on my home world with at least
one assistant, and I would like at least the same on the remaining two
worlds. Each world leadership will be responsible for maintaining
continuity in the RPE as well as maintaining the general operation on
the world.
With the latest issue in these newsgroups surrounding world
ownership/copyrights etc, I want to lay out the ground rules up front.
Anything created for one of the worlds will remain with that world as
long as that world remains "in costume" regarding this RPE. The creator
of the thing (model, avatar, texture, etc) retains ownership but will
not use or distribute the thing to or on another world unless the RPE
ends. If the RPE ends then any thing not created by me or obtained
through the network of model makers which is used for this RPE will be
deleted from the object paths and backups, and will not be used on any
of my worlds again unless permision is granted from the maker.
I call this a role playing environment since I don't see it as a
game. I see this as having a common interest in being "in costume"
while in AW but having the freedom to go your own direction as long as
it fits within the continuity of the environment ( eg, I dont' want
snowmen on a desert world). My idea here is that each world is
independently governed with the inhabitants having voting rights on its
development. In turn, the world leaders will meet occationally to
insure that the worlds are properly maintained.
Here are the people I'm looking for: non-world owners (you already
have your hands full with your own projects), model/avatar makers,
texture makers, folks that are handy creating web pages, and above all,
folks are are willing to be dedicated to this project and its future.
Now, for you world owners out there that think this might be of
interest. In my current writings surrounding this RPE I've grouped and
named 36 stars, some binary systems, in our cluster with 28 inhabitable
planets. It would cost me a small fortune to finance all 28 planets.
There is plenty of room to include your world in this RPE if your
current theme seems boring or if you want to try something different.
The only stipulation is that you have a world name fitting to this RPE
since "Bubbaland" just doesn't lend itself well to the "feel" of this
environment.
I know that this all might seem a bit cloudy right now and I
apologize, but I'm working fast and hard on getting all the details down
on paper so there is a solid base to build from. My goal is to create
and maintain a website with a complete definition of what this RPE is
all about; a reference area to aid in keeping consistancy and a place
for new people to learn the ins and outs.
Please contact me by email if you are interested in signing up for
this new project and thank you for reading this post to the end.
