BETA TESTERS needed for Xelagot 3.613

Sep 8, 2005, 9:37am
I need volunteers to beta test xelagot 3.613 (a 3.6 xelagot). Previous
versions were compiled with Delphi 5, this version and future versions
with Delphi 7. Lock-ups have occured in the alpha 4.1 version of
Xelagot (which is also compiled with Delphi 7), and I need to test the
3.6 version thoroughly to make sure the Delphi 7 compilation is not
causing this.

Testers will be required to run X1.exe in the main universe (or other
3.x compatible universes) for long periods in all sorts of areas,
preferably but not exclusively areas with lots of events (chat, avatar
movement, etc).

You should do a fresh install (do not overwrite existing versions!)
and have enough bot-allowance to run at least one instance of this
version.

If a crash occurs (typically, the user interface freezes), open the
Task Manager and take note of
(a) the memory usage [Mem Usage column]
(b) and CPU Usage [CPU column]
Details such as what the bot was doing, what was happening in the
area, was it in Global mode, was it running a script, did avatars
enter or leave just before the crash, how long did it remain alive
before crashing, etc, can be very useful. You could also take a
screen capture of the xelagot main screen (this can provide
information). Report each crash separately by email, with any
attachments needed.

If no crashes occur within a week of testing, then your job is done
and you can send an end report.

DO NOT REPLY TO THIS POST, as it is crossposted to many newsgroups.
Contact me by email from a valid email address and I will send you a
copy of this xelagot version.

Report crashes and your end report, as well as your request to beta
test, to this email address, with a subject line such as "x1 beta
test":

Regarding Xelagot BOT

Apr 25, 2001, 7:12pm
[View Quote] Xelagot knows nothing about the objects, it does not download them either or
test whether they are valid! You may inspect the names of objects and
change them manually in the tab Models: you must type in the full name of
the object. You can also save to file this list (right click on the screen)
to inspect it somewhere else.

If you build objects that are not acceptable, two things can happen: 1) the
world has a registry, the objects will not build; 2) the world does not have
a registry, you get black triangles.

New feature on X1 Xelagot

The avatar map has a new feature: map through the eyes of the bot :)

See the What's New page at http://www.imatowns.com/xelagot/xlgwhatsnew.html

New feature on X1 Xelagot

Apr 26, 2001, 7:37pm
And, I just uploaded still more enhancements to the Front View avatar map:
stable image, avatar has now an eye, z-buffering, clearer text.

Next upgrade will include bot clicks on avatars in Front View :)

Help (1.20KB Attach)

Apr 27, 2001, 7:41pm
I agree fully with you ananas, the registry is a trash bin full of lost code
and vanished utilities: it can never be cleared properly, even when
uninstalling programs :)

Full navigation and click in Front view map of Xelagot

Apr 27, 2001, 5:46pm
I more or less finished the code for the Front View map, see below :)

http://www.imatowns.com/xelagot/

Xelagot X1 version 2.9999988, April 27th, 2001

Full navigation and click in Front view map. Each avatar is represented by a
1m x 1m square, with one eye in the middle. When the horizontal grid line
passes through the eye (or the centre of the square) the bot is level with
the avatar. The maximum view is 90 degrees to each side.

Map Keys and Mouse:
Escape: toggles between text and navigate (some keys won't work in both
modes: you can type while you navigate, but arrows don't move in text).
Clicking on either text or scene has the same effect.

AW Navigation keys: except for PageUp and PageDown, all other keys are
similar to AW's.

Ctrl + Insert: toggle Front and Top view

Ctrl + PageUp and Ctrl + PageDown: zoom in/out (works on each view
separately).

Ctrl + F1/F2/F3: select bot 1, 2 or 3

Left mouse click on avatar (Front view): avatar click.

Right mouse click on scene: pop up menu.

Enter: send message.

Full navigation and click in Front view map of Xelagot

Download the bot, Faber, it's freeware :)

(PS. I have occasionally downloaded your bots, I still have a Preston
somewhere)

Caretaker X1 Xelagot enhancement

Apr 28, 2001, 7:50pm
The version 2.9999990 of X1 Xelagot, just uploaded, has an enhancement in
caretakers' Give/Take rights using the Presence list pop-up menu: Give/Take
rights have now been merged into one menu, with a checkmark indicating if a
right is on or off, and allowing to change that. There is also a new menu
allowing to change the rights of the citizen number belonging to the privs
used by an avatar... so if someone is wearing privs, you can adjust those
rights too. You can now check and change directly:
1. collective rights (the rights with a *)
2. personal rights of someone
3. rights of the privilege number used by someone.

Non-caretaker bots allow you to check but not to change the rights.

BTW, you may try to download again, one of the uploads I did was indeed
buggy (faulty compilation), I uploaded again 10 minutes later... this might
explain your boxes.

Best bot for the job?

Apr 30, 2001, 12:51pm
There is an example script, the same my Xelagot uses in xelagon (AW), at
http://www.imatowns.com/xelagot/xlgasexamplesidx.html
called iLabBooth2.txt. It shows how to use a variety of techniques,
including random text (the jokes), and should not be too difficult to edit.

Xelagot chess-bug fixed

Apr 29, 2001, 6:34pm
A rare random bug in the check-mate verification code of xelagots caused
some games to deadlock (check was being announced instead of check-mate). I
found and fixed it (hopefully). The current chess scripts are ok, but chess
players should download and install the latest version (X1 2.9999991 and
Av99Bot/SrvcXlgBot 2.991).

Sorry for the inconvenience.

To chess bot verification, no answer really, you should know better than ask
this sort of question, Faber. I do my job my own way, you do it yours :)
The chess engine is hard coded, the script is what you miss in Preston...

Concerning your objection to my numbering scheme, you have already in the
past said that. I do not really care a *f* about that objection, LOL, it is
also my own business and not yours. It suits *me* fine, I make my own bots.
You are free to make yours the way you like.

I have always respected other people's bots and promoted them, and I will
carry on doing so.

No offence intended here either!

RPG bot

May 11, 2001, 11:48am
I have not noticed any problems when keeping a bot running in a universe
outside a world. Andras' statistic bot does just that. The problem can
arise when the bot tries to enter a world, if it is not running or the
connection is lousy.

You can have a bot invisible in a world too: make it leave and then bring it
back in with
Vanish
this statement exits the bot and brings it back in invisible. to make it
visible again, use
Materialize
(or Materialise, both work)
or you can use WarpLocal or any statement that moves the bot. The advantage
of having an invisible bot is that the bot can work changing objects etc,
without receiving events related to Avatars (add, change, delete, chat,
clicks). It can still query property, change it, play music, and change the
world attributes... and it won't be seen :)

[View Quote] Make sure there is no reconnect code, check that OnWorldDisconnect is
disabled before the bot leaves (it may have reconnect code in it), and
alternately, use the Vanish keyword to make it leave and enter invisible.

a bot that changes the op?

Many bots can do that: try the xelagot or preston.

bot limit

May 11, 2001, 11:23am
The bot limit per citizen is set by the universe owner. It defaults to 3
per citizen, you can have that changed at a price, contact
support at activeworlds.com. Worlds can allow or ban bots, but as Andras
pointed out, they do not set a limit to the number of bots. Even more: a
world with a limit of 5 people can have hundreds of bots :) In AW run
worlds, it is forbidden to bring in bots at or near GZ, not because of the
building limit (restricted radius) but because they have a bot there,
Customs Aide, that ejects other bots: so the limit there is the 'perceiving'
distance of Customs Aide, which is about 200m NSWE (my xelagots put the
limit to 300m to make sure they dont get ejected, CA can be off-center at
GZ).

How do I create Events For when The User Exits?

May 11, 2001, 12:06pm
Three events are related to the coming and going of avatars:

AwAvatarAdd, with name, session number, citizen number*, privs*, build
number of browser or sdk*, coords/yaw, avatar number and gesture

AwAvatarChange, with name, session number, coords/yaw, avatar number and
gesture (these are the things that can change)

AwAvatarDelete, which contains the name and session number of the av
leaving.

The most important one is AwAvatarAdd, because it contains a lot of
information (those marked * are 3.1), which you should collect there and
keep in some array or something.

Check the original sdk and MrGrimms. MrGrimms does not really explain these
events, so I'm not surprised you had trouble.

How do you make a textbok automatically scroll down?

May 12, 2001, 8:28am
Text boxes have a very low capacity and were causing me errors, I use RTF
controls. You need to periodically remove the first strings anyway.

How do you make a textbok automatically scroll down?

May 12, 2001, 6:15pm
MaxLines := ChatLines + 100;
if (RichEdit .Lines.Count > MaxLines) then
while (RichEdit .Lines.Count > ChatLines)
and (RichEdit .Lines.Count > 0) do RichEdit .Lines.Delete(0);

in Pascal :)

I delete 100 lines at one go, as you see... ChatLines is a fixed maximum
(say 500), but I allow 100 more. When it passes that, I chop of to reduce
the number of lines to Chatlines.

Object Changing, & x,y,z,& yaw co-ords

May 14, 2001, 5:50am
1. you need to query the area for property. Once you got that, you are in
live update.
2. search for the sign either while you are querying, or at the end if you
made a database, and collect the object number and the position (X and Z are
required).
3. use the correct commands to change the sign, keeping the new object
number you get there.
4. wait longer than one second (or wait for the callback), due to lag this
may be too short, then change again.

It's a lot of steps and you have to master them all before you can do what
you want.

Xelagot Scripting

May 18, 2001, 12:48pm
Use #0 for line breaks in chat: the chat interpreter will see this as a sign
to sendt the message in two parts. To make sure your line also starts as a
separate chat line, surround your whole text with #0:

SayConcat #0 "this is the first line" #0 "this is the second one" #0

You can also do this like this:

Concat $a #0 "this is the first line" #0 "this is the second one" #0
Say $a

See http://www.imatowns.com/xelagot/xlgassay.html at the bottom of the page.

XelaG.

the first #0 makes sure the chatline is not stuck to a previous line in the
chat buffer, the last #0 does the same for any text that may follow. These
#0 are removed by the chat interpreter.

Xelagot Scripting

May 22, 2001, 12:54pm
In the iLab script, it handles any amount of requests by different people
simultaneously. You only hear yours, of course, because it uses whisper so
as not to flood everybody's screen :) Have a look in the iLab script to
find out how it does it.

If you handle all your code inside the Chat event handler (it must not be a
long action of course, that would block the script), all requests will be
honoured. Asking for stats should be ok to handle in the event handler, you
only need a few lines of code for that.

Long requests, like ones including building etc, can not be handled all in
the event handler: in such cases, I disconnect the chat event handler
temporarily, do an EscapeTo or ResetTo a label in the main part of the
script, handle the request there, reconnect the chat event handler and reset
the script pointer to the main loop. An example of this is the chess bot:
when the bot is clearing a board, it will not execute moves.

How do you remove avatar session numbers from a list?

May 18, 2001, 8:10pm
Don't pay too much attention to him, barbarossa.Sure, go do your homework,
but feel free to ask here :) It is better if you post these questions in
the sdk newsgroup, but sometimes it does not hurt to post here too (as long
as you don't crosspost), both newsgroups overlap a bit.

Sorry I can't help, it don't know this part of VB (I did a lot in VB, but it
was in VB 3). In a Delphi list, I would simply remove the list element by
list index number, but in VB I'm at a loss. If you can recover the index
number in the list, by session number (which is possibly encoded as string,
not as number), you should be able to remove the whole item. If the session
number is encoded as string in the list, as it would be in delphi, just
change your long to a string first before searching.
