Tony M and I looked and this problem and tried to capture debug logs for
it one day.
We only noticed the "jumping" avatar when our avatars were flying and
moving. We came to the conclusion that the problem is in the fly seq.
This problem had been brought up before, and I had a replacement seq to
upload to the OP. So, it has been fixed once.
But, if anyone has a correct set of seqs they'd like to donate, that'd
be great. :-)

Thanks Chris!
Using XelaG's SEQ File Viewer, I found that the initial frames were not
set on 'qfly1' and 'qfall1'.
I've dumped my cache but I've been unable to re-create the problem. So,
I can't say for sure yet if this was the cause of the avatar "jumping"
problem in question, but the seqs definitly had problems that needed to
be corrected anyways.
Jaguar: Try dumping your cache and going to awteen. Let me know if you
can recreate the "jumping" avatars.

Jaguar,
No, I'm pretty sure this *is not* a problem with TerraForge.
My guess is that the AW protocol can only handle a certain (and
obviously too low) amount of data in property operations. Trying to
copy/move/delete objects with too much data (i.e. selecting a large
number of objects, all of which have long action/description fields)
causes the world server to detect an error in the protocol. Therefore,
the world server copys/moves/deletes whatever it can (before the
communication error occurred with the protocol) and then resets your
connection to the world server (i.e. disconnects and reconnects you).
This is almost certainly a problem with the AW client/server protocol,
or at least a problem with AWI's bandwidth.

I don't believe the problem was with the bot though.
If you read DaBean's first few posts carefully, you'll see that he was
trying to copy/move many objects independently of any bot (inclduing
TerraForge). He wasn't using a bot at all.
Initally, I think he assumed the problem was with TerraForge because
after trying this copy/move operation his browser was
disconnected/reconnected to the world and therefore TerraForge sent him
the welcome message again.
Reread the initial post and see below:
>Furthermore:

If it was truely a problem with the bot sending/receiving data, then the
bot itself would be booted from the would server, and would reconnect
automatically in 30 seconds (as it is programmed to do in the event of a
world disconnect). Instead, it sounds like DaBean's browser is being
disconnected/reconnected. Therefore, it's not a problem with the bot.

I had been thinking about trying to come up with system such as this for
AWTeen (which could also be applied to AlphaWorld).
If someone could come up with the software, I would be happy to host it
and generate maps on my server.

I already do that for awteen. :-)
I wouldn't mind doing it for AW, thought it would take a lot longer....
My problem is actually generating the maps. I could use Andras' mapper,
but it wouldn't look anywhere as nice as the AW Map, or be as usable.
The web interface to the map wouldn't be as hard to come up with. Just
need some java script or a java applet. Generating the actual images is
the problem I see....

Setting up a whole site just to bash Seiya seems a little wacko/obsessed
in itself, don't 'ca think?
I mean, it's one thing to warn people if you really think Seiya is such
a "wacko"... that's your opinion. But its another to maintain a totally
derogatory site about someone, despite who/what you think they are.
It's a little over the top (just a bit....), unnecessary, and frankly
pretty rude/disrespectful. It's great that you're trying to look out for
people. With all the true "wackos" out on the internet these days,
looking to prey on un-knowing children, and all the children be snatched
in the news... it's good that you're blowing the whistle. But there's
got to be a better way......

Just for the record, I wasn't really trying to stick up for you at all...
I'm not really interested in if what they have to say is true or not....
For all I know every word on that site might be correct....
My point was that whoever created that site has a major lack of
self-respect, a lack of respect for others, and *way* too much free time.
Here they are trying to say you are a wacko, but yet they seem to be
obsessed with you and are acting more like stalkers who are just out to
smear your name. Not very believable either way if you ask me....
If you want to warn your friends about someone you believe is dangerous,
the way to do it is *not* stalking the person and setting up a site with
whatever info you find dedicated to bashing the person. That's just
really necessary and pointless.

I'm sure I wasn't around when they were first started, but I have been
around since early 1999....Long enough to know that they weren't always
like this, but also long enough to know that the last 3 or 4 years of
them have been a joke.

No, you're right. They weren't always that way. In the beginning, they
were very reputable and it was a true honor to be awarded a CY.
It seems to me that her "i quit" post was pretty angry. I don't believe
that she quit because she didn't enjoy doing them. I know she loved the
CYs and poured a *lot* of time into them. It was the people and politics
that made it unbearable. Who's to blame her for quitting? Because of the
ideas and cannotations associated with the CYs now, I can't blame her
for wanting to completly dissolve them when she quit either.
I'm a firm believer that the CommunitY needs a new award with a fresh start.

AlphaBit,
If I understand the problem correctly, the expression is:
(4+1)^2*6-4
Where the carrot symbol (^) represents "to the power of" and * is
multiplication.
This problem has to do with the order of operations and operator
presidence (or, in computer programming terms "expression evaluation").
To find the correct answer, you have to do each operation in the correct
order.
First, you start by evaluating things inside parenthises. So, you do
4+1, and you get:
(5)^2*6-4
In the order of operations, powers come next. So, take 5 and square it
to get:
25*6-4
In the order of operations, multiplication and division come before
addition and subtraction. So, next you do the multiplication 25*6 to get:
150-4
Subtraction is the only operation left, and you get the book's answer of
146.
Hope that helps...

The world list he published isn't the current (up to the minute) list.
It's a snapshot of what was running when the list was made.
So, the fact that you're in your world right now doesn't mean that it
should be on the list.
Your world must not have been running at the time when the list was made.
Although, I realize that the list was made today, it still doesn't mean
your world wasn't off-line for a split second when the list was compiled.

Since no one has said anything yet.. I guess I'll take a minute to explain.
Some viruses/trojans attach themselves to a specific file in the file
system, making it easy to identify if a system is infected (take a look
at one file and you can tell right away). Other viruses attach
themselves to (or infect) files at random.
I can't tell you why the egyptian.mid file was chosen to be infected,
but it could have been chosen at random.
From looking at the logs, it also appears that the same virus was
removed from the same file several times over the course of time. The
virus removals date back to 02/02/2005, just short of a year ago.
This makes me think that this particular midi file is a false positive.
Because viruses can 'mutate', most virus scanners are based on pattern
matching. You may have heard the updates that you download for your
virus scanner referred to as "virus signatures". That's because the file
contains the 'signatures' of all the known viruses at the time. These
'signatures' are more like characteristics, or a pattern of bits that
uniquely identifies a particular virus (thus the term 'signature'). The
pattern of bits can be searched for throughout a file system quite easily.
However, sometimes it just so happens that the signature of bits from a
virus matches the pattern of bits in a random file (in this case, the
midi file). When this happens, the virus scanner will complain about the
virus, and dutifully delete the file. Then, AW re-downloads the file,
having not found it in the cache, and the virus scanner deletes it
again.... and the cycle continues every time you visit the world.

FYI... I host the OP files for BluPearl, and while I haven't personally
scanned them, I'm almost completely confident that they were not (and
are not currently) infected.
I wouldn't avoid a world just because your virus scanner is complaining.
See my other post about false-positives for more info.

I have to agree, I had a similar experience.
One day, probably after some ruckus on the NGs, I decided to go explore
the more popular Gor worlds at the top of the world list....
I just wanted to take in the scenery, since I knew many of these worlds
were well constructed.
However, as soon as I went wondering off, just looking around.. I was
promptly told "you can't go there", and when I ignored them (I had no
interest in their Gor crap, just wanted to see the world) I was promptly
ejected.
They all seemed bitchy, and uptight.
Ohh well....
Seems that it's their problem to me, and I'm not one to make other's
problems my own.

Wolvie,
I'd be happy to offer you object path and/or world hosting.
I've been hosting worlds since the beginning of 2000. I currently host
Broadway and several other worlds, including their object paths and
other independent object paths. In the past, I've hosted BluPearl.
Before MrBruce decided to leave AW, I hosted A!!CT for a time.
You'll have full FTP access with no upload/download throttle. There's
also no bandwidth/transfer limit. The server is located is a fully
managed data center, so uptime and connectivity wont' be a problem. With
the object path, you'll just be getting basic web space. You can store
whatever you like on the server, web pages, objects, whatever. You can
setup any multi-path or other PHP/PERL scripts you'd like. I provide all
the support you could ever need, so you can always shoot me an e-mail or
t-gram if you're having any issues.
I have my prices listed online at www.jtechwebsystems.com/prices.shtml .
However, I'm willing to work with you on finding an agreeable price.
I'll even offer you the two for one deal if you're interested in hosting
with me.
If you have any questions, please let me know. If you're interested, we
can meet online in AW to discuss in person.
Looking forward to doing business with you!
Regards,
Jeremy
