All,
For a project I'm working on, I'm trying to come up with a list of the most common types of buildings in Alphaworld. These are meant to be broad categories. Houses Castles Gardens Churches/Religious Buildings Landscapes (eg mountains, lakes, rivers, forests, etc.) Monuments (eg memorials, birthday gifts, etc.) Miscellaneous Other What else can you think of? I know there are a lot of other types of buildings in Alphaworld. I'm aiming to have about 15-25 different types of building categories. All,
Out of curiousity, what are the most common types of buildings in Alpha World? I'm looking for broad categories, and here is what I have thought of so far: Houses Castles Churches/Religious Buildings Gardens Landscape (eg, mountains, rivers, deserts, so on) Monuments (eg memorials, birthday gifts, etc.) Miscellaneous Other What have I missed? I'm sure there are other types of buildings that are common. Suggestions? Selanit selanit at atuan.com Types of BuildingsApr 17, 2000, 9:54pm
Ok, here's a revised list based on what I've heard here and from
people in AW. Another suggested type was "Pyramids," but I don't think they're really common enough to warrant a whole category to themselves. Houses Galleries Castles Gardens Skyscapers Teleport stations Space stuff Amusement Parks Mazes Bars Offices Object yards Celebration Sites (Bdays, Weddings, Memorials, etc) Vehicles (airplanes, cars, ships, etc) Landscapes (mountains, rivers, islands, forests, etc) Building Contest Sites Misc. Architecture Misc. Other I am hesitant about "Skyscrapers." Are there enough of them to warrant a whole category by themselves? Same question for "Space stuff." The reason I'm collecting this info is that I'm going to build a database of Alphaworld buildings, searchable by building type, building designer, and so on. So what do you all think? Does the above list pretty much cover the *most* common building types in Alphaworld? Selanit Types of BuildingsApr 18, 2000, 1:27am
Yes, those are common. I think, however, I will not include them,
since they are so common anyone can find them without having to look them up in a database. ;-) Selanit On 17 Apr 2000 19:53:25 -0400, "Anthony Bathgate (Wing Cmdr)" [View Quote] >Porn bars >Vandalism >Tourist garbage >Stray objects >Loooonnnnnggggggggggggggggggg roads that lead nowhere >and my personal favorite............... various ways to let that >significant other know how much you love/like them > [View Quote] Types of BuildingsApr 18, 2000, 1:27am
But Count, wouldn't that come under "Homes?" ;-)

When I'm doing this, I *don't* cancel the dial-up box. Instead, I
click somewhere in Active Worlds. Result: the dial up box sits there behind AW while I do whatever I'm doing, and doesn't bother me. Selanit > > > Now open, the Alphworld Buildings Database!Apr 23, 2000, 10:09pm
All,
After quite a bit of work, I am pleased to announce that the Alphaworld Buildings Database is now open to the public. It is a database of Alphaworld buildings, like the name says. It is searchable by Citizen Name, Citizen Number, Building Type, and Building Age. Records are displayed complete with links to the teleport CGI offered by Active Worlds, so you can teleport straight to any building you find. What's more, *anyone* can add an entry to the database. The database is somewhat sparse at the moment, so you please stop on by and add an entry. :-) The URL is: http://www.atuan.com/awdb/index.php3 Or, to look at a version intended for the Show Web browser inside AW, use this URL: http://www.atuan.com/awdb/index.php3?render=aw If you get an error message at any point, please contact me at selanit at atuan.com. If you have suggestions, ditto. If you have virtual tomatoes to throw at me . . . erm, look your shoelace is untied! ;-) Selanit Fake Cy's Must Be Stopped!May 25, 2000, 9:00pm

Certainly, talking to the world owner about it would be an excellent tactic. However, one should NOT visit the offending world to do so. Installing a fake Cy is a means of stimulating interest in the world, thereby encouraging people to visit and explore. If you find a fake Cy and continue to visit that world, then you have done precisely what the world owner wanted -- even if you only visit to condemn the fake Cy. Instead, we ought to shun the offending world. Send the owner telegrams; talk with the owner in other worlds; but DON'T actually go to the offending world! Building, and more importantly *showing* our buildings to others, is the most important attraction in owning a world. A world is pointless (and lonely) if no one ever visits it. Let owners do as they please in their worlds, but make it clear that if faking a Cy is a good way turn your world into an obscure backwater. Selanit <snip> >Regards, Justin |
