Same thing... different duck(s)...
http://www.pixelportal.demon.co.uk/AW/ :) >Hey, > >I'm having some difficulty modifying some graphics for a project I need to >have completed by Tuesday, July 15. I'd be willing to discuss some method >of repayment if accomplishing this task would take a long time, as I'm not a >graphic artist by any means. > >The problem is this: take the AW SURVIVOR Challenge II: Frozen Desert logo >(which was originally held on March 10, 2001), and delete the AW background >in the logo and replace it with the picture of the duck, preferably cropped >and zoomed so that the duck is large enough so that you can see what it is. >The word "SURVIVOR" and the blue background need to be left unchanged. > >All of the necessary files are available at >www.shoemakervillage.org/survivor. This might be a one time business opportunity.
MSN will be closing its chat room service on October 14th in 28 countries (MSN is retaining unsupervised chat room services in the US, Canada and Japan, but for subscribers only). That will mean one hellavalot of people will be looking for new places to hang out in cyber-space. If AW Inc. can squeeze some advertising budget out of its coffers... now might be a good time :) As MSN are claiming that the major reason for this is that un-moderated chat cannot be made completely safe for children it will probably be best not to mention the gor thing ;) http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/6/32992.html -- CC ENZO: Heads UpSep 25, 2003, 5:33pm

>Yet world owners here are generally quite honest and responsible for their
>actions. Gor worlds are rated as needed and children cannot access them if >their world rating settings are set properly. Imagine, if you will, that you lived in an alternate universe... or may be just on another earth-like planet ;) On this world AW is owned and run, by Microsoft. As such, it enjoys the hysterical scrutiny of that world's news media. Basically, they would have a field-day. I can picture the headlines now: FBI Investigates Microsoft's Gory Slave Trade Now imagine what may be an equally unlikely scenario, where AW (in its present incarnation) managed to raise its profile (and its customer base) sufficiently for our own world's news media to even notice its existence. I suspect the gor community would soon find itself in an alternate universe for real :) To be fair, this separation might also properly be applied to other sections of a really large AW community. However, what I was implying was that in seeking a higher profile, AW shouldn't underestimate the seriously bad publicity gor could attract. As it is, searching http://news.google.com would suggest ActiveWorlds don't actually exist at all: Your search - activeworlds - did not match any documents. No pages were found containing "activeworlds". Suggestions: - Make sure not to miss the MSN opportunity. - Try different advertising. - Try more general advertising. Also, you can browse today's headlines on the Google News homepage. -- CC ENZO: Heads UpSep 25, 2003, 5:33pm

>MS is just doing it for money, but they tag the blame on a public enemy
>(spammers and pervs), so it's like a win win situation on the surface. As >if it'll really stop anything bad. There's a zillion free chat rooms >throughout the internet left =P > ....and an opinion not lost on some commentators: "And what about the kiddies? Well, the facts about child abuse are scary. Most children who are abused, sexually, are abused by close family, however, not by strangers who "groom" them in chat rooms. Closing chat rooms may be a great idea if it stops children being abused - so will it?" http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/6/33032.html -- CC US FlagNov 27, 2003, 9:46am

>The Soviet Union did little to stop advancing NAZI forces, so spare me
>that rebuttal. In fact the conditions were so horrible in the Soviet >Union, Soviet soldiers would surrender to unarmed NAZI scouts... During WWII, many european populations paid a price that has no comparison in human history, and the sacrifices made by the soviet people vastly exceeded that of *any* other nationality. It could also be reasonably argued that the German's ruinous assault on their Eastern front was what finally led to their downfall. You might read up on the Battle for Stalingrad. Is it possible that your notions have been distorted by the fact that whatever victory the soviet people did achieve was subsequently squandered by their insane leadership? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_World_War_II_casualties_by_country Soviet soldiers killed: 13,700,000 Soviet civilians killed: 7,000,000 That's over twenty MILLION lives. Can you even start to comprehend that scale of death? Do you really think it is something that should be used as the basis of a cheap shot in a NG in an unnecessary attempt to argue with someone who everyone can clearly see hasn't got a clue? You deserve the rebuttal. -- CC URGENT NEWS BULITEN FOR ENTIRE ACTIVE WORLDS COMMUNITYNov 22, 2003, 9:50am

>It has come to my attention that there have been massive scale pop up
>attacks in the active worlds browser. [snip lots of stuff about hating pop-ups, but not much useful information] If you are in fact describing the known exploit on the Windows Messenger Service (although this exploit has nothing to with the AW browser, and also nothing to do with MSN Messenger)... visit here for an instant cure: "In addition to being a security risk, Windows' Messenger Service is being used to Spam Windows users across the Internet." http://grc.com/stm/shootthemessenger.htm Indeed, you might spend a little time looking at the grc.com site in general for information/fixes for all of these common exploits. -- CC |
