No way you can ever stop recording if you go to Radio Shack or even WalMart
and pick up a male=>male audio cable. Plug it into the headphone jack of the
CD player (Or Line Out if you have a good one) and then into the microphone
jack on your computer. Enjoy. [This is my preferred method, believe it or
not, because I can also record radio, cassette and various other implements
with the flip of a switch]

This isn't the best place to ask, but I'm trying to redirect all traffic
using the ISP splitrock.net to www.test.com
Using that ISP, I cannot get myself redirected. I've also tried it with an
IP address instead of a host.
The code has to be short because it will be appended to EVERY document on my
server.
The code is below.
$Redirect_Page="http://test.com";
if(ereg("splitrock.net$","$REMOTE_ADDR||$REMOTE_HOST")){header("location
: $Redirect_Page");}

Good ol classic Wing here, posting from a friend's account. I do believe,
that Activeworlds Corp just crashed a proverbial airliner into downtown
Activeworlds. However, I have some serious doubts that Activeworlds will be
able to carry on as a community as New York has. Now before someone else
says it, "Osama Bin Noll." There. Down to buisiness.
Their financial status is obviously reaching a meltdown point, or an
increase this horrendous would be completely uncalled for. Either way now,
Activeworlds dies. Dies developmentally at first and dies at the heart
later, or gets it's heart ripped out immediately. Many hundreds of people
have poured hundreds of hours into Activeworlds and it's community.
Alphabit, Goober, Comit, continue the roll call as you wish. Other people's
livelihoods depend on Activeworlds. Roland, Flagg, Lucrezia, etc. The
community versus the company. Either the company gets paid and the community
decreases in size dramatically, perhaps to the tune of a 75% decrease or the
community gets to contine normal payment, the company flounders, development
stops and one or two people, turning very little profit struggle to keep the
servers running and not much else.
Either way it's a shitty way to go.

Brant, speak for yourself. I make $60 a week after taxes. I have to pay for
my own lunches. Down to $25 a week [Expensive school lunches]. I'll be
driving a car this time next year. Down to -$50 a week
I hold the highest paying teenage position in all of Hereford and work the
max hours allowable by the government.

AW has this interesting habit of hiding anything dealing with finances from
the community. According to shareholder info, they turned a $71k profit last
year. Looks like they're getting by, but maybe they know somthing we don't.
Maybe equipment needs to be replaced. Maybe 3.3 is costing them obsurd sums
to develop. Maybe Roland wants a raise. Maybe they're dropping Renderware.
Tell us WHY, maybe someone might pay.

Yes, it does say that arrangements will be determined for existing citizens
at a later date, but in order to keep the new from complaining, it can't be
THAT huge of a difference. Also, what about renewals of expired
citizenships? How much will they cost? How do they expect to impress n00bs
enough in two weeks to get them to let them be charged $10 a month? What
about people without credit cards? What about outside the US?

WTF? All my work in AW, gone for future generations. Such a waste it has
been, as those of us that will leave won't even be allowed to leave a
legacy. But such is the way of the worlds, not only is a very lonely place
on the horizon, but now a very empty one too. If anyone would be willing to
pursue a TOTAL propdump of Alphaworld, I suggest you start now, regardless
of AWC's approval or assistance - it'll take awhile.
Perhaps if AWC has a place left for those that care, they'll allow a select
one or two universes to have a copy of a recent backup of the Alphaworld
database, but I doubt it'll happen.

Look, AWC is going to do this whether you protest like a bunch of fools or
not. Even if they didn't raise the prices, AW would probably not even last
the year developmentally. Enjoy it while you can afford it. If that's until
your worlds and cits run out next, then that's good for you. If it's a few
months at $10 a month, more power to you.
Just a few do's and do nots to think about.
DO NOT shut down your worlds.
DO NOT wipe your builds.
DO NOT boycott major worlds.
DO NOT telegram spam AWC employees. I havn't seen one on for extended
periods of time since the announcement, presumably because they can't get
any peace.
DO NOT pester via email or phone, just maybe one calm, composed message.
DO NOT post innanely repetitive messages to the newsgroups, we've heard
nearly every argument 50,000,000 times in 10,000 different threads.
DO hang out with friends, and talk about things other than the pricing
situation.
DO continue building
DO go on with AW life as usual as long as you possibly can.

I don't like to do this, but I can't stand seeing AWians eat each other
alive, much less in what used to be a CIVILIZED discussion group.
First of all, I'd like to make the assertion that you are ALL immature and
know NOTHING of the way the world works. Look up innocence in a dictionary,
you are all the essense of the word. What is love? What does it feel like?
How are you supposed to conduct yourselves in public? How are you supposed
to act when a friend or colleague makes a blindingly obvious mistake? How do
you respond to an insult? How many of you have ever made a "Your mom"
comment? How do you MORALLY promote a buisiness? I want you ALL to think
LONG and HARD about all of this. NONE of you know all the answers, nor do I.
So stop acting like you do.
Second, how many of you twits (Eep's terminology is only fitting) understand
a single ounce of AWC's financial situation? How many of you know exactly
WHY they raised prices? How many of you think AWC is profitable? How many of
you would enjoy working there? How many of you try to make their buisiness
decisions for them? I know the answer to the last one, most of you.
Third, what do you not understand about Internet security? Really, any file
on any machine connected in any way to the internet is fair game. I don't
give a shit about firewalls, proxies, monitors, gateways and various other
security systems. ANYTHING on your computer can be accessed ANYWHERE at ANY
time. This has been and always will be the case on the internet, because if
you have somthing that somebody wants, they will get it. This is why the
computer gods invented the removable storage device. What do you not
understand about the concept of PUBLIC? AWC's bot enters your world because
it is open to the PUBLIC. This INCLUDES AWC. You have no say over who enters
your public world, because it is PUBLIC. PUBLIC is not the same as PRIVATE.
I have no say over who uses my PUBLIC webserver. I do, on the other hand,
have plenty of control over who enters my BEDROOM. Don't like people finding
out what goes on in a PUBLIC place? Mark it PRIVATE!
Feb 24, 2002, 3:40pm

changed it. My name is Anthony Bathgate, my AW name is Wing.. (note the two
periods) and my citnum is 305003.

And I thought I was pathetic. Oh well, retreat is the reply of the craven.
How many dozen weaklings have come in here, stirred up a fire and then ran
swearing to god that they were going to make an AW clone? AW's still there.
I'm yet to see a SINGLE AW clone actually get released by these children
(Although I do remember Radon attempting to get me to download a
virus-ridden one with promises of caretaker shite).

Ahh shit. Why is it that only the good die young?
Any memorial sites established for him? It seems like that's all I build
lately, so much loss so fast.

Freedom of speech was designed to protect people from persecution based upon
their views on the government and the like. NOT personal vendettas. Also, on
PRIVATE PROPERTY such as this newsgroup, certain people may be disallowed
from doing certain things if they are found offensive. This is also the same
reason worlds have eject features, chats have kicks and bans. IRC has
K-lines. All different implementations of the same idea, shutting up the
offensive. Now before you claim that we don't support it, please attempt to
understand it, or at the very least read the f'n Constitution.
Oh, and we ain't all Americans.

Dieses Zicklein erinnert mich an einige Gecken an der Schule. Wissen Sie
nicht, wann oben schließen Sie und haben Sie keinen Anhaltspunkt, wie man
Englisch viel weniger deutsch spricht. Beugten zu mir, Tiertier.

Babelfish murdered by translation BTW. Very much worth converting back to
English.
