Properties Box

Feb 2, 2005, 2:26pm
I've never used the Object Properties Box either. I find it much easier to
use the keyboard. For all 3 axis rotations I use on my #pads Home-End,
PgUp-PgDn and /-* and can rotate all 3 axis'...also when using your
keyboard, one can hold the CTRL key when duplicating and the duplicated
object will automatically jump to the edge of the duplicated model, saving
me time to move it there 1 click at a time. Can build a wall miles long in
seconds this way. I don't know that that can be done with the Object
Properties Box.

Drop Menu Sequences?

Jan 31, 2005, 5:39am
Something I've thought about for quite some time but never thought to post
here is creating some form of drop down menu for the avatar sequences,
instead of the buttons currently used.

Dont know how easy it would be to do or if it's even possible, but sure
would be nice to allow more than a 1/2 dozen sequences (with full names) or
more if you use shortened names like D1, D2 etc which means nothing to most
people and doesnt look that professional.

If not a drop down menu, maybe a popup Actions Window? Anything that would
allow a few more actions with FULL names might really be nice :)

Drop Menu Sequences?

Jan 31, 2005, 8:55pm
Isn't it possible to password protect the zipped sequence files? I'm not
sure as I have never tried. But I'm pretty sure you can, just the same as
you do your objects. If a person was concerned with theft, that would be a
start.

Although now that I think about it, when you load the sequences in their
world, and it downloads to your cache, the file doesn't get 'deformed'
(encrypt, decrypt, decode, whatever it is called) as do textures and models,
which brings up yet another Wishlist Idea.......

Could AW not 'deform' the downloaded .seq file the same as they do objects
and textures, thus protecting them from theft?

Terrain options...

Jan 31, 2005, 10:40pm
On my object paths I have 6 different terrain sets (64 textures per set).
But only 1 set may be used at a time. What I have done for seasons is made
up 4 of those sets but left things like roads, paths etc named alike so they
wont change when you change your seasons terrain sets. Simply put, ensure
your path textures (IE: terrain10.jpg etc) are named the same in each of the
'season' folders if you want to keep that path. You could do the same with
the snow textures. Then as seasons change, one needs only to copy the
required seasons texture set over the existing texture set within your
textures folder.

Html support in Tag 200?

Feb 12, 2005, 2:41pm
Just a little something that was brought to my attention:
Would it be possible to incorporate html support into picture objects (Tag
200), so one could display html webpages directly within the AW browser, not
requiring the need to have an additional popup or other browser opening?

Html support in Tag 200?

Feb 14, 2005, 7:50pm
Yes, I've tried the .jpg image idea and it does a pretty good job, guess I
was just wishfully thinking, but thought perhaps that the AW browser might
be able to somehow be 'tweaked' to read basic html within an inworld object.
Guess that might be a whole new ballgame then though. ;) The idea about
..php gets me thinking though....*smoke fills the room*.......I'll have to
work on that idea :)

Sceensaver Crashes

Aug 21, 2005, 4:12pm
It appears that an "improvement" in the latest AW software includes a "crash
my browser on screensaver start". What is with that? I read on the release
notes that this is an improvement? I myself don't see the benefit in having
to ensure my screensaver is OFF (I have children who are not allowed to surf
the net regularily so my screensaver must remain for security), or ensure my
AW browser is minimized every time I leave my desk to grab a coffee. I don't
know how many times I forget to do this, and upon my return, AW is crashed
and needs to restart!! This.... imo.... is NOT an improvement, but a major
inconvenience, not too mention looks terrible in the program stability dept.
Is there anything that can be done with that?

programmers

Feb 22, 2006, 4:30pm
This is a program written by others I found long ago and still use today. I
don't know that it is available from it's original source nor do I recall
where I got it, or I would give appropriate credit. In short... It will
provide a text listing of ANY directory you search with it. After which you
can select and copy the entire list to any text editor with the click of
single button.
Hope it's helpful...

HELP!!!

Jan 15, 2005, 12:02am
You only need to double left click the tab to open or close it.

Three Years Later...

Feb 8, 2005, 2:29am
I'm with Strike on that one.....doesnt sound like a feasable business plan
to me, I think I'd much rather stick with a company that will still be there
5 years later, not one whos going to take the money and run as thats the
only way they could make money on that pricing scheme.

Could Lighting in AW be brought back?

Jan 10, 2005, 9:46pm
Dont know if this was suggested yet but here goes:
If vandalism is the reason for reducing light radius, and I can understand
this problem as I have encountered it many times, perhaps someone could
incorporate a browser option to turn light OFF, same as sound or video is
currently setup. Also, don't the world owners have the option to set their
individual worlds light radius already?

Just my opinion of course ;)

Could Lighting in AW be brought back?

Jan 10, 2005, 11:03pm
I don't know that one would have to disable transparency or mask in order to
disable the light. As with the option to turn sounds off in your browser,
you still download the object (speaker) whether it is masked or not, its the
sound itself which doesn't download. But, now that you mention it and after
a little more thought, I dunno if it could be done with light, although it
is yet another "create" command, light is not an actual file which is
downloaded like sounds.

Just my opinion of course ;)

Could Lighting in AW be brought back?

Jan 10, 2005, 11:37pm
Well I have seen the effects of light used in vandalism, in AAWR last week
someone had posted a thousand signs throughout the world with light radius &
brightness of 1000, which virtually blinded anyone entering anywhere in the
world, and made slower computers hang. I don't know that masks or
transparencies would create the same problem to require the need of
disabling. Although vandals creating hundreds of transparent objects is a
pain, and I wouldn't want to imagine the effects of this coupled with the
above light commands! But I still don't think this would be possible in any
respect as neither are a actual downloadable file which can be blocked as
sound is. I also don't think any GOOD idea is a waste of time, I can
understand AW's viewpoint that they can't go updating browsers for every
single little upgrade every other day (or at least I'd hope they wouldn't)
and I know if the idea is in fact a good one, they will attempt to
incorporate it into their next revision.

Just my opinion of course ;)

Arcworld Updates

Jan 10, 2005, 6:06pm
The Arcworld website has been updated and revamped. With listings to over
45,000 objects/avatars, 1,000's of sounds, MP3, videos, games and endless
Activeworlds resources. Arcworld is also the home of the Modular Building
System (MBS) which to my knowledge is the most complete set of building
panels ever before seen in AW, which are now available in 50 different
texture sets. Everyone is welcome to download our free MBS demo set to see
for themselves the possibilities of MBS. If your as impressed as I think
you'll be, you can also purchase complete MBS sets or all the sets at great
savings!
If you haven't been there yet, then it's a must see!

We have everything you just asked for on the Arc Object Path lioness
www.arcworld.net. hundreds of globes, and every avatar available in AW is
also an object. and yes, there is a vast array of sparkling jewels, gems and
crystals as well. I have tried many times however to donate some of these
new models to the AW OPs but seems no one ever hears me. Even though they
were offered for free.

Well Im certain AW and Co have much more on their plates than to worry about
a few extra measly models to make their citizens a little happier. :) Not
to mention the work required to update their listings to show them and all.

Caps in Names?

Jan 12, 2005, 4:59am
Hiya folks, I'm really new to these NGs and this might be a silly
unimportant question to most of you, but I notice some names in this NG are
capitalized and mine isn't even though I filled in my registration using
capitalization. When I check my account info, it also shows capitilization
(ie: John Dough) but when I post in subjects I only get lower case letters
in my name. Anyone know the trick to getting Caps in their names?

Caps in Names?

Jan 12, 2005, 6:11pm
When I setup my account info I used caps. And I have checked again in
Tools/Accounts - both General & Server tabs, both show caps, but no go

Caps in Names?

Jan 12, 2005, 6:17pm
Only reason I was wondering is I noticed Ry, Pyro Goddess and Jaguar Hahn
all had caps on the on the "text ^_^" entry on the 3rd of Jan. in this NG. I
saw a few people had changed their names to caps in that thread including
Mauz, Strike Rapier, The Looney, Ry even though they all had lower case
previously. I saw even Andras had tried a few different times also, but to
no avail as his name didnt show caps in the end like the rest ;)

op host on XP-IIS?

Jan 14, 2005, 5:18pm
[View Quote] I currently host multiple worlds and OPs on a pc with an XP Pro OS. Although
I do not use the included webserver s/w included in XP Pro. So Im not sure
about those user limits with that. However, I have tried various 3rd party
server software. A very easy to use program that works well and is free is
Ability Webserver and it sets up relatively easily, but it does have I think
a 10 simultaneous user limit. And it doesnt support alot of security or data
based languages like php, asp etc. I now have moved to an Apache Server,
there a free downloads of their s/w available directly from them, although
it is a little more difficult to understand and setup properly to work
within the XP OS environment. But it works great once you figure it out, and
it has all the bells and whistlles required for security or database
serving.

Time to present this idea again...

Jan 15, 2005, 5:25pm
[View Quote] I think thats an excellent idea!! Would be nice to see AW give a little
recognition to those of us out there promoting their product, not too
mention the incentive it would create. And I might even wager there would be
a direct impact on citizenship sales as EVERYONE would be out promoting
sales to ensure a FREE renewal. AWI would of course have to incorporate a
strong anti-spam policy to deter folks from taking it to extremes as would
inevitably happen, something to the effect of losing your "points" if they
were to receive too many complaints.
