PeaceKeepers: A Modest Proposal (rant)

May 7, 2005, 3:46pm
This would also solve the problem of creating a whole new "gate" and leaving
the existing builds alone.

Hold Your Own Chess Tournaments Here

May 8, 2005, 4:42pm
Hi all,

Today I have completed my 2 Chess boards in my world Majestic, right at the
GZ, easy to find. It uses a XeLogot for both boards which can be played
simultaneosly with XeLag's Chess script from 2000 that I found on his
website. So come on over anytime with a friend or friends and have a blast.
The bot will run almost always 24/7 except when I reboot my computer.
Yesterday I saw that AWChess doesn't run all the time, maybe only certain
times, so I decided to make this in my world instead. Majestic world can
hold 5 people so there is enough room for 2 games with 1 person watching.
I'm also thinking about tournaments in the future with prizes, but that is
down the road. You kids that need something to do this Summer can come on
over to Majestic for some Chess. :)

Hold Your Own Chess Tournaments Here

May 9, 2005, 2:45pm
Well, I got AW to restart AWChess world which can hold a lot more players
than my world can. So I have deleted mine and turned off the bot for now.
Maybe sometime this Summer I will hold a competition with prizes or
something.

Universal Chat Channel for Active Worlds?

May 31, 2005, 4:00pm
Interesting idea, except the way AWGate is structured and the GKs, there
would have to be changes within that too I bet. The only downside is, people
would stop talking in AWGate and only use that text chat for most
conversation because everyone in the universe sees it so there would be more
access to people, etc. Eventually AW would slowly evolve into a text based
chat program with some 3d stuff on the side.... which is the wrong way. AW
is Virtual Universe meaning people are scattered around like in real life.

I emailed AW about it a few days ago and they haven't heard anything about
it yet either. So my guess is that it will either be late, possibly in
August, or it won't happen, but I could be wrong.

Happy Birthday!

Jun 28, 2005, 2:38pm
Happy Birthday AW! Here is a little History lesson from Wikipedia.com :

Active Worlds was inspired by the book Snow Crash written by Neal
Stephenson. In 1994, Ron Britvich (Protagonist) created WebWorld which was
the first 2.5D world where 10,000's could chat, build and travel in.
WebWorld operated on the Peregrine Systems, owned by Knowledge Adventure
Worlds (KAW). KAW, along with Kinetic Effects Research Inc (later Credo
Interactive), began development on AW. On February 1995, KAW renamed to
Worlds Inc.
On June 28, 1995, AW was officially launched. A couple months later, Circle
of Fire (CoF) was formed by Richard F. Noll. CoF was a small group of
friends and family who worked on large projects in AW, such as games.

I think it's pretty funny and cool that AW came out BEFORE Windows 95.
Windows 3.11 wasn't even geared to the Internet and you needed a special
login program to get online. LOL

I need help from the community please!

Jun 29, 2005, 2:36pm
It makes perfect sense. Builders can have showcases too to show towns and
cities and worlds even. There would also need to be a world or place like in
AW where many people can advertise to build (for free, but I've seen some
builders charge money over the years) and maybe either have a warp to their
showcase or a website with photos on it. Another thing the builders would
need to do is check telegrams pretty often so the city doesn't give up on
you. This would make lots of friends with many people and improve AW as a
whole.

AW Fireworks This Year?

Jun 29, 2005, 8:32pm
I was wondering if there is going to be fireworks this year in that one
world again (I can't remember the name of it), but it is on a beach and they
had them shoot over into the water.

Thanks,
Kenneth

AW Fireworks This Year?

Jun 29, 2005, 11:23pm
No, it used to be a yearly thing on the 4th of July and they also had
control buttons down near the ocean (or lake) to shoot them off, etc.

AW Fireworks This Year?

Jun 29, 2005, 11:33pm
Ahh I found it on an old AW Newsletter on the web, from 2000. They used to
have it in A`tuin2 world. You can read about what it used to be like here:
http://www.activeworlds.com/newsletter/0700/07008.html
I see A`tuin world still exists with the same dark serene dock and ocean,
but nothing on signs or anything about a Fireworks show this year, so maybe
not this year.

The owner of a`tuin just told me that the Fireworks Show is year-round now
and can be self-activated. But she said she will put a teleport sign at the
GZ for 4th of July. You all should check it out, the world is really
fantastic and perfect for a beach-front fireworks show. Jaguar Hahn, I'll
check out that show too in AWTeen, thanks.

FIREWORKS IN AW!!!! :))

Jul 1, 2005, 5:21pm
Here are 3 places I have heard of so far that will have or already do have
fireworks. I recommend seeing all of them on this Forth of July weekend:

1. World: BluPearl at 19.52N 23.64E -0.03a 269
2. World: A'tuin at 3.55N 12.88W 0.23a 30 (fly up a little so the dock
loads) You will need to use the Control Panel to start them, etc.
3. World: AWTeen at 2782S 1118E (will be ready on Monday, July 4)

If you know of another one, please reply to this and tell others. Happy 4th
of July everyone!

Overpriced.. How the heck?

Jul 20, 2005, 11:34pm
It's money for the LICENSE to use the AW Browser in your own business if you
wish. They let you use that license to create a business to get money off of
their technology. Of course you would still need a regular business license,
etc. for a business, but this license they sell is kind of like a business
setup opportunity. All you would need to do is charge people to register and
get a server and make some worlds and advertise a little and you got
yourself a pretty easy way to make money. But if you don't want to make a
business, yes I agree with you, the price is too much. Maybe AW should make
2 licenses, one for commercial and one non-commercial use. Just an idea.

Help us rally to bring our sky back

Jul 31, 2005, 1:22am
Yes I hated the new backdrop they put up for a couple days. It was too big
(made the world seem smaller), too dark (made everything look darker), had
some sort of skull looking pattern on one side, the new realistic look of it
makes all the objects you can use in AW look nothing at all like the
backdrop (the original one goes with the colors more), and yes like you
said, AW world needs to stay historical.. if we can't have a new AW GZ then
we shouldn't have a new backdrop either.

that looks brighter and less taunting.

Good morning!

Aug 22, 2005, 2:14am
Down at the station the policeman took out his knife,
couldn't tell if the boys were dead or alive.
Until they both woke up sitting by a computer,
and that policeman was on some game called Excalibur.
The clock said 4,
there was a knock on the floor.
It was the blind man and his cane walking in the kitchen,
He told the boys to get to bed,
the boys faces turned red.
They knew what he said.
So they went to their rooms,
and dreamed about big animals and full moons.

Hurricane Katrina Disater

Sep 1, 2005, 9:26pm
I also have 2 friends (not in AW) that were hit hard by the hurricane. One
friend has 4 small children and a wife. They haven't been heard from yet. I
asked Enzo to put the sign in AWGate for Red Cross, but I guess they put it
there before he got to my telegram. Thanks for putting it up there Enzo. But
I know the http://www.redcross.org site is very very hard to get to with all
the traffic. So if you can't get to the website and want to donate, please
call 1-800-HELP-NOW and tell Red Cross that you want to donate for Hurricane
Katrina victims. And like QRV mentioned, there are many other groups to
donate too also if you wish to search for those. Thank you.

World Owners Group

Sep 19, 2005, 11:43pm
Sounds great! A website can have the forum of different set topics and also
links to worlds that would benefit world owners, like free object worlds and
Object Yard worlds, etc. I'm sure AW hosting and modelling companies will
want to advertise too if you wish to do that. But I think the more free help
the best for a group like this. Put some thought into it, for example, do
you want worlds of ALL ratings, G, PG, PG-13, R, X?

Dec 8, 2005, 11:22pm
Really cool Mark. It gives me a good perspective. If you want, you can also
double the percentages for just the daylight hours, since people spend
almost half their life sleeping.
But here is my outcome from your site:
You have spent a total of 12.2% your life in Active Worlds since you
registered
You have spent a total of 2.1% your ENTIRE life in Active Worlds as a
citizen

*CRITICAL UPDATE FOR MS WINDOWS*

Jan 6, 2006, 2:39am
Yes, for those of you who don't know the importance of this patch, I will
try and tell you what I know about it. A wmf file is called a Windows Meta
File that is made using Windows Office as a picture and web browsers and
email clients can view this photo on web pages or emails. This file could
contain malicious code to attack your computer and add a harmful virus on it
when all you did was view the photo online. The vulnerability was found very
recently but they say this might be the worse thing to ever come on the web
if hackers decide to make it this way. So PLEASE use those website addresses
Strike Rapier posted to update your computer with the official Microsoft
patch.
