Particle Emitters and Movers

May 31, 2006, 10:26pm
I was wondering if anyone out there knows how to make a particle emitter and
/ or a mover object in aw world? I tried doing it with a common object and
it says: Building Inspector: Sorry, you are not allowed to build with 'z'
objects in this world. I wonder if that means we can't make them at all
right now. I saw a mover object in awgate which was one of the sailboats and
have rode that twice. I hope when the world server comes out, they will
provide us with objects that can make these things.

4.1 World Server Out Now!

Jun 2, 2006, 10:46pm
For all of you who have worlds, you can get the 4.1 world server now at the
activeworlds.com website, under Products -> Downloads. If someone else hosts
your world, please notify that person. The 4.1 sdk is also out now on the
same page, as well as the 4.1 browser.
3.6 also has an automated upgrade starting this afternoon (Friday) but
people can wish to Skip it if they wish, for now. Have fun :)

Some serious problems with 4.1 build 949

Jun 3, 2006, 7:34pm
Yes that is exactly what's happening with my computer too. I have a 2 Ghz
Dell with 512 MB RAM and a 64 MB NVidea video card, with the newest Direct
X. It only happens, so far, in AWGate world, but my CPU usage goes to 100%
and my entire windows slows down, and my mp3 music (using the small Winamp)
gets all messed up, and I can't run any web browsers or anything else. As
soon as I leave AWGate and go to my area in AW world everything goes back to
normal and my CPU usage jumps down to around 10% or so. I think it's all the
things in AWGate that is doing this. You got all the people in vehicles, the
huge piano, all the added graphics, and tons of people there, more than we
had in 3.6. So that has to be something to do with it. I emailed Support so
I'll see what they say about it. 2 people have told me so far that it's a
bug in 4.1 that doesn't close down commands within the program structure
when they are finished using them. I even tried setting the Priority in
Windows Task Manager to "Low" and that does absolutely nothing. I just won't
hang around in AWGate much if this keeps up.

Thanks Cryonics For Fixing My 4.1 Problem!

Jun 4, 2006, 9:04pm
I just read deep inside an above thread from Cryonics with the newest URL
fixing a CPU problem I was having. I was getting hugely frustrated, and I
bet others are too. So if your computer is freezing up or slowing down a lot
using 4.1, install this version:
http://objects.activeworlds.com/downloads/awb949c.exe I hope they put his
bug fix on the next automatic upgrade and also on the website under
Products, real soon.

Unix/Linux World Server Due To Come Out Before 3.6 Closes

Jun 6, 2006, 6:04pm
I called AW Inc. today and they said their goal is to have the Unix/Linux
World Server out before 3.6 is shut down. Last time I checked, 3.6 is due to
close Monday, June 12.

Undocumented feature (midi notes)

That's pretty sweet, thanks. I might setup a few instruments for people to
mess around with in my worlds sometime.

Undocumented feature (midi notes)

Jun 8, 2006, 3:44pm
I tried putting a sequence into 1 object using the create animate me stone3.
1 1 600 between each midi note but of course I only had room for about 3
notes and it only worked with 2 notes for some reason. Having 3, it kept
doing ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding forever. I wonder if
there is a way to make a sequence on a few objects but have them all in the
exact order to play 1 song. I don't think there is, making an object
invisible has nothing to do with the sound from that object. I wish they
would have added a wait= command in there.

Close Encounters Theme Song Sequenced :)

Jun 8, 2006, 9:13pm
Hi all,

I saw earlier that Cryonics asked for a Close Encounters theme song sequence
using the new 4.1 midi notes. So I found on a website what note numbers to
use and SW Comit showed me how to use astart and how to make it play at the
click of a sign. It's not the entire song of course, just 2 of the same note
lines, and you can play it over and over if you wish. The commands are
underground on sign1.rwx signs. Feel free to copy and use in anything you
want. :) Cryonics, I hope you can check it out. I hope I get some replies
from people about this. :) It is at: 6896.82S 7102.55W 0.04a 87 in
AlphaWorld.

Activeworlds conversion to version 4.1

Conversion from 3.6 to 4.1 is proceeding well. The Linux world server is
almost complete, as we are putting some final protection touches and will
release it in the next few days. Since Linux users will probably not have
had a chance to move their worlds by June 12th, we will extend the shutting
down of the 3.6 Universe to June 16th. We appreciate everyone's
understanding and your support during these exciting times, you have all
been great! :-)

Sincerely,
System Operations

Building Height Limit Now 1000 meters

Jun 13, 2006, 8:27pm
I tested it in AlphaWorld and put some UFO objects at 1000 meters high. But
they lowered the flying height from 2000 meters to 1200 meters now. I think
it's pretty cool for huge builds that walk up that high or a platform in
space or moon. People could put a zone in their world of all blackness way
up that high. :)

What exactly does the "Empty Local Cache" option do?

Jun 27, 2006, 6:37pm
The other day I tried to use the "Empty Local Cache" option in the Downloads
window by right clicking within that little window. Then I closed AW and
looked in my Cache directory and still found all the worlds I've been to and
all their artwork. The only thing I think it does is delete the cache from
the world you click it in. Or does it delete anything else?

I guess the only reason that it doesn't have it delete the entire cache is
because it would most likely be too much to copy all the cache to a
temporary directory before it deletes it all when you shut AW off. Windows
cannot delete files that it is currently using which is why it uses a
temporary directory I heard.

-Kenneth

What exactly does the "Empty Local Cache" option do?

Jun 27, 2006, 10:42pm
Yes, I guess I worded myself a bit confusing. I tried it and it
automatically deletes the world you are in and it automatically starts
reloading that world as soon as you do it. I just meant that if you want the
older cache (that is copied to a temporary folder) completely off your
computer, I think you will have to turn AW off, but I could be wrong.

Who is this Immigration Officer anyhow?

Jun 28, 2006, 2:30am
When nobody is around, they sit around in deep recesses of Alpha World
drinking and partying all night long. But their beeper goes off when someone
enters their assigned world and they get there at light speed.
Some say that the PKs have seen them partying, but that's an old rumor from
the olden days, back when they used to
watch Tron on their tv1.rwx.

what the hell?

Jul 2, 2006, 6:12pm
I have a good glider that rolls both ways depending on your turn. I use
this,
it should work with yours, you can experiment with it too.
You can see this in the big cave in my world majestic:
Speed Factor: 5.00
Turn Speed: 0.50
Glide Factor: 0.00
Friction Factor: 0.50
Tilt by Terrain <not checkmarked>
Pitch on Move: 10.00
Apply Pitch on Move to Av <checkmarked>
Roll on Move: 10.00
Apply Roll on Move to Av <checkmarked>
Everything until Lock Av Pos is not checkmarked.
Lock Av Pos <checkmarked>
Locked Offset 0 0 0
Lock Av Yaw <checkmarked>
Locked Yaw: 180 (because of the position it is in)
Lock Av Pitch <not checkmarked>
Locked Pitch: 0.00

Fireworks

Jul 4, 2006, 2:06pm
I just made a non-stop fireworks show in Majestic world if anyone wants to
check it out. It's not really elaborate but I like how the particle emitters
shoot them off at random times, non-stop. The fireworks are off the west
coast of the GZ island.

Blank Telegrams

Jul 8, 2006, 4:03pm
This error reminds me of the error, and 3.6 error, that happens when you
click both the right and left buttons at the same time when you are moving
an object. The building box freezes up and all the buttons in that box stop
working. I have to click the Windows Start button for it to release the
buttons in that building box and start working again.

Windows 98 / Me no longer supported

Jul 12, 2006, 12:02am
Windows 95 and 98 have a bigger memory leak than XP has. The more you run
the computer at one time, the more memory you lose and after you wait long
enough, the computer will freeze.

Tab controls

Jul 16, 2006, 3:44pm
If you have nothing in your Tab Controls, try rebooting, then try rebooting
your Internet connection. If it's still that way, then it's something wrong
down on the Internet lines. I would email support at activeworlds.com for
further information if it doesn't come back.

[4.1 Build 953] - Miscellaneous Bugs

Jul 21, 2006, 11:08pm
-During a fast download of a couple items, the particle emitter animation
stops and then comes back again after a second or 2 when the download is
done.

-Old Z Buffer problem. It takes around 5 small clicks away from a closer
object to not bleed through the closer object. I know this depends on
graphics cards, but it would be nice if they fixed it for all modern
graphics cards.

[4.1 Build 953] - Miscellaneous Bugs

Jul 21, 2006, 11:30pm
I should also say:
Video Card: NVidia GeForce4 MX 420 (64 mb)
DirectX: 9.0c
Windows XP Home Edition SP2
Intel Pentium 4 CPU (2 Ghz)
Video Mode: Direct3D without T&L Support (runs better for me without it)
Texture mipmaps on (whatever those are LOL)
I.E. 6

[4.1 Build 953] - Miscellaneous Bugs

Jul 22, 2006, 4:57pm
Yes the z buffer problem is just my graphics card I guess.
The animation problem is just when you enter a world and you look at the
particle emitter animation while other objects are downloading and the
particles stop for a second or so, and then go back on after a couple
objects download.

crashing

Jul 30, 2006, 10:33pm
Something similar happened to me years ago, in 1 room in my world, it
crashed my computer every time, even after deleting cache. I never found the
answer without deleting the whole world, but you might want to make sure
there aren't any corrupted files that try to download when you go there.
Even deleting cache wouldn't help since it tries to download them every time
you go there. So if you haven't already, turn on "Print object errors in
chat window" under Settings -> Advanced. If you see a file that you don't
know of, find it and delete it. You might need to use a bot to locate it,
although I don't know how to do that. That's all I really know without
totally restarting the world. And yes, it can happen to some computers and
not others. One other thing, if your friends don't have as high as a
download limit on their computers as you do, you might be downloading a huge
song that is causing problems, same thing might happen with a streaming
media file, if you have yours turned on and they don't.

Also, I don't know what kind of Windows you are using, but 8 GB hard drive
is a bit small nowadays when you are using lots of files like the AW cache.
I would make sure there is always around 1 GB free space on the drive
because of cache and also temp files in other programs.

Bored This Summer? Try my Search Game.

Aug 1, 2006, 9:56pm
Hi all,

Today I have created my own maze using huge mountain objects in Martians.
The object of the game is to find all Sector names which start with a
different letter, going from A to M. Get all the names and telegram me,
Kenneth, and I will put your name in the Hall of Winners at the GZ. Each
Sector also has a location, like NorthEast then the name, all I need is the
name. There are no prizes in this game, just the honor of being in the Hall
of Winners. Your name will be in the Hall of Winners for a month at least.
If nobody wins within a 2 week period, the game will stop. Read the GZ signs
before you play, Good Luck. :)
Note: The world only has mountain terrain pieces, signs, and the Hall of
Winners for objects, so it should be a farely easy download, if a mountain
piece doesn't download, please bump worlds.
