Sleepy Hollow

Oct 20, 2001, 5:29pm
Can anyone tell me where I can find the township of Sleepy Hollow?

Sleepy Hollow

Oct 21, 2001, 5:15am
Hi Andras,

The Sleepy Hollow I'm asking about would have been built in 1995 and is
featured in http://www.synergycorp.com/nwt/issue3/nwt3.htm

No coords but reads as follows:

SLEEPY HOLLOW IS LOOKING FOR RESIDENTS
The Township of Sleepy Hollow is open for residents! Enjoy all the comforts
of a planned community, including a hotel, fast food and other restaurants,
the SLEEPY DOME, a Bowling Alley, and more. You build your own residence
within picturesque the Hollow area. To hear more about the future of Sleepy
Hollow send Email to Sleepy.

Lily's Hawaiin Village is another place I'm looking for if anyone has any
info and is featured in the following NWT issue.
http://www.synergycorp.com/nwt/issue3/nwt3.htm

Thanks and btw that is a beautiful town!

Unfair Voting Procedure for Avatars 2001

Dec 2, 2001, 10:55pm
In regards to the popular vote that took place at Avatars 2001, there is no
way it could be considered fair, and I will request that this matter be
looked into by digigardener and others.

The bot did not work properly.
At times, the bot was not present.
Downloads in progress were halted/crashes occured as follows:

If voting practices such as this are allowed to be continued, we cannot call
ourselves a fair virtual society with decent moral character.

I suggest anyone that was unable to fully download and/or vote properly at
this event write to the coordinators of the event to protest such unfair

Christmas Time

Dec 14, 2001, 1:25am
When I was young, my sister and I had to eat our Christmas dinner at a fold
out card table in the kitchen. We were told when we got older, we could sit
with the adults. We felt left out and couldn't wait until the time when we
could sit with our mom, dad, grandmother, uncle and aunt-the adults. It
would be sort of a day of acceptance and growth when that happened.

Before I was grown, my parents divorced and my mother moved us across the
country. Now, I eat Christmas dinner without my mother, father, sister,
aunt and uncle and my grandmother is dead. My sister and I never saw the
day when we were together eating with the adults.

I will not TOLERATE children being pushed out of this community newsgroup
for the reason that their problems are separate from here, do not matter or
belong to be aired in a different newsgroup-whatever technical label you've
put on shoving them out of here or out of your hair. We accept them and
listen to their problems-after all, we were once them. If you don't agree,
quite frankly, you need to re-evaluate your definition of what community
really is.

Christmas Time

Dec 14, 2001, 3:47pm
I totally disagree with your comment about "the greater community" and I
refer you to the community charter (which I have posted).

Conflict about AWTeen pertains to all of us and the Active Worlds community
in general. It meets the criteria of the charter so you have absolutely no
right to tell AW kids to post their comments elsewhere.

Listen up kids, you are welcome to dine at the table with the adults
anytime.

What happened to eep?

Dec 20, 2001, 11:48pm
Haven't seen him anywhere in awhile.

Eep Banned/Fix 3.2 Please

Dec 21, 2001, 1:24pm
Eep is banned from the NG's and is tired of 3.2 bugs.

What will it take to get Eep back on the NG's so he can post? I'd like to
see him be able to post before Christmas.

I agree about the 3.2 bugs. It's a real irritation-enough that I took it
off of my computer. What can we do so that Active Worlds will release an
update that fixes some of the major issues? (How many of you are still
using 3.1, I'm curious.)

Eep Banned/Fix 3.2 Please

Dec 21, 2001, 10:18pm
Don't you have anything better to do than to follow and post conversations
of AW citizens around the internet?

Eep Banned/Fix 3.2 Please

Dec 22, 2001, 1:02am
I don't like the idea of anyone being excluded from a community, that's why
I made the post. It's hard to watch someone being ousted.

Saying the F word to get attention is one thing; however, I believe there's
more to the problem than Eep shocking people with the F word. Last summer,
my son (who was 12 at the time) invited Eep to a party he was having because
he saw him at ground zero talking. I suppose most everyone here knows how
Eep feels about spamming through telegrams, but my son does not know because
he doesn't read the newsgroup. Eep sent a less than friendly reply back to
my son through telegram which had my son wondering if Eep was going to wreck
his party or worse. My son reported this to someone at ground zero. I've
taken out all the F's and replaced with a star.

Telegram from Eep, sent Sun Aug 5, 2001 2:41 PM:
Uh, so? You spammed me. Now *uck off!

Telegram from Eep, sent Sun Aug 5, 2001 2:37 PM:
Telegram from *Anonymous*, sent just now: PARTY at *Undisclosed Location* AW...
Alll who comes gets 2 free LOTS!!!! Come and join the fun at 4:00 pm VRT
Monday!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Telegram from Eep, sent Sun Aug 5, 2001 2:38 PM:
that's spam, idiot. don't *ucking spam me you *uck.

Telegram from Eep, sent Sun Aug 5, 2001 2:38 PM:
You just want to be a spam*uckwit. *uck off.

Telegram from Eep, sent Sun Aug 5, 2001 2:39 PM:
YES. Now leave me alone before I report you to a PK.

Telegram from Eep, sent Sun Aug 5, 2001 2:41 PM:
Uh, so? You spammed me. Now *uck off!

It turns out my son had a very nice party with a big turnout because some
nice person came with a bot and really watched over everything, which, from
what I hear is not normally done. I don't know who the person was, but I
thank them.

I don't agree with (and am angered by) this treatment but on the other hand
it's hard to see someone pushed out. If AW decided to block Eep, I hope
they did so in a manner that was fair.

I agree with most everything you say below; however, I hope you never dig up
anything I've posted outside of Active Worlds that has nothing to do with AW
and put a link here.

A thought about anti-tourist people

Jan 3, 2002, 5:02pm
No way. When I came to AW, it was close to a month before I was able to
become I citizen. Can't say if I still would have become a citizen if I had
only 2 weeks with the software. AW isn't like a shareware download with a 1
hour time limit, there's so much to learn about the place, 2 weeks is not
enough time. Doesn't make sense to have a credit card entered before you
can even begin-in most cases kids don't have access to credit cards unless
they've been stolen. If parents don't have time or the interest to take a
look at the software with their children, they aren't going to hand over a
credit card. Tourists should be able to have a longer time period than 2
weeks, for the kids and for those on fixed income.

I agree with a price hike, but don't agree with one as high as what E N Z
O's letter proposed.

As far as your wanting to clear out tourists builds, I hope I never have to
ask for a bowl of soup from you in the soup line. You'd probably knock it
out of my hand before I sat down to the table, johnny.

Forced upgrade to 3.2

Jan 4, 2002, 7:49pm
Rene,

I was exactly in the same position as you yesterday. I was forced to take
the upgrade and when I upgraded there was no text at the sign-on screen,
only a sign-on box with round buttons and at the bottom the only option was
to cancel. I reinstalled with the same results. I wrote to Roland (poor
guy had to take my wrath) and he sent me this link. Try completely taking
AW off your computer, but before you do, save your teleports, contacts and
telegrams (back them up). Then use this link:

http://objects.activeworlds.com/downloads/awb32.exe

It should work for you, but if it doesn't try contacting
support at activeworlds.com and send a copy to roland at activeworlds.com

It worked for me, hope it works for you.

Jan 9, 2002, 10:50pm
If the company is serious enough to spend time, money, etc. getting new
objects, textures, models to us, they should be just as serious about
maintaining the original ones. It's dead wrong to change out the textures
on existing models. Forget the bull about spiffying it up to show off to
corporate suits at gz. Artists do not like for their work to be changed, a
stone texture without grooves was what I, the artist, intended for my roof
and that's the way it should stay. My roof looks like a big tire track now.
Good grief, talk about getting run over! Please change the textures back to
the original.

Adressed to all the caretakers !

Jan 29, 2002, 8:20pm
I have a world and boycotting by closing it down sounds too harsh to me.
Especially because whenever I've needed help with my world (sometimes not
even AW tech support related) I've been able to get help in worldbuilders
newsgroup. I've gotten tech support in Active Worlds on many non-AW related
issues. I don't think closing down my world because I'm unhappy with the
new tourist and citizenship policies is the right approach. Don't
misunderstand, I am very unhappy with the few tourists trickling in at the
gate. I think AW's new policy is too harsh, I don't think anyone wins.
Tourists are the livelihood of AW. I realize the company needs to make
money, but I think they are shooting themselves in the foot if they don't
change the policy on tourists-----hm, that should be Tourists, with a
capital T.

I've said this before-parents of children that download the AW program are
not going to hand over their credit card for a two week trial. Parents
allow their kids online for homework or many times kids will ask to get
online to look up a particular subject. If they happen to bring up the AW
webpage and ask the parent to come over and take a look, a parent is much
more likely to give permission for the child to test the program for free,
versus needing a credit card to test it for free.

I'm disappointed E N Z O and Cryonics (and the other guy-Gardner) did not
show up at AW Debate when everyone was in an uproar over the new
policies-I'm disappointed and surprised. There have been times when Alpha
World was shut down or when something major was taking place that a public
speaker was available to answer questions, to greet people that were just
arriving - to be there in a way that a company/people representative should
when something different is going on.

I realize AW needs to make a buck, but frankly, it is very hard to be 100%
supportive of their new money making strategy, not only because of the way
it was announced, but because of its' leadership not facing the people.

Mr. Rayburn,

I sure hope I never get so stuck on myself that I have to call down those
who previously helped me by pointing out their personal shortcomings when
times get rough.

I hope you and AW can work out your indifference. Working with you in a
positive manner is in their best interest as well as yours.

I agree with parts of Lara's statement.

I've said it before, I'm disappointed JP or E N Z O did not speak to the
citizens at AWDebate when AW was in such an uproar after announcing the
price increase and no tourists. And since that time, I've heard JP had a
discussion with the PK's, and part of the focus of this discussion was NAC
property and the like. HOW DARE JP release this information to the PK's,
which in turn allowed it to be leaked out/trickled on down to the citizens,
which ended up in a newsgroup post. If it weren't for Mauz, I don't know
that we would have ever known for sure what the correct information was. JP
should have faced the citizens head on with the information. It was done
with little or no regard for us and I'm very disappointed. As far as I'm
concerned, anytime anyone talks about wiping out someone else's build, for
whatever reason, it's of utmost concern. Without builds, all you've got is
a chat program. Also, back in January, I felt pushed a little too hard to
accept a new version of the software (as Calpentera stood at the gate
announcing). It was almost as though I were at a Jim Jones camp, forced to
drink the poison Kool-Aide with a gun to my head. I could not even sign
back onto AW after installation of the new version. I had to write to
support! What if I had been a GateKeeper trying to sell a tourist on
becoming a citizen as Calpentera marched in with all of his world privs?
And Calpentera, if you are reading this, don't you do that again!!!! I mean
it!!!!!! It was dead wrong!!!! I don't care if you were instructed to do
it, we should get notice plenty ahead of time before we are forced to take a
new version of the software. Don't you guys up there in the AW office ever
take up for the citizens? How about the potential citizens (tourists)?
There are times when a paycheck means nothing when you see injustice taking
place!

At the same time I can see that a price increase is in order, especially if
it means more toys, because I really enjoy building and am willing to
support new features by paying more.

I think it's more important that he's a citizen with a build before the fact
that he's doing anything with the stock. Anyone know if he's a citizen and
if so, does he have a build? Coords? He has no office in COFMeta that I
can see, which concerns me.

Bad Taste - Joker CY

I like the playing cards being available; however, I feel the joker card
being a Cy with a joker hat on is in bad taste. I think it should be
changed to something different.

Bad Taste - Joker CY

Feb 3, 2002, 2:05pm
LOL.

well

Point #1 AWCom should be representative for what is on their OP. We hold
Cy in high reverance around here.

Point #2 You wouldn't make a Bulldog mascot wear a cat suit at a ball game
just because you decided it fit in with the theme of playing the Wildcats.

No, in the game of cards, if you are going to use a Cy, take the hat off and
let him be himself. Other things on the card (such as a background image)
can define it as being a joker.

In answer to questions about the remaining AW playing cards, none that I
know of, other than Cy joker, are pictured using avatars.

goober,

If it were a cit that made the joker Cy card, uploaded it to his or her
object path for their own use, that's their right. (Anyone can bring their
own bulldog in a cat suit to the game playing the wildcats.) However, I
don't feel it is appropriate for Activeworlds to put stuff on their OP, or
produce in any other fashion anything that defaces Cy.

Correct this in your memory bank, it was Bendy or Stiff. You're crazy to
think I'll buy this type of back and forth banter for your amusement. To be
pulling this out of your hat (notice I didn't say crown) is ridiculous.

fact that you even bothered to "correct" me about a trivial event that
> occurred over 5 years ago proves how in need of a reality check you

At the time it wasn't trivial to me. I thought Bendy Cy was a girl Cy
avatar and kept wondering where I could find a picture of her so I could
vote. What disappointment finding out it was just a "male thing". Don't
you dare laugh at me. (That will always be in my memory. :)

We need a female Cy avatar. (That's a new thread.)

New Pricing...

Feb 6, 2002, 8:09pm
In part, E N Z O said:

Tourists are allowed limited access into the Active Worlds Universe. They
are allowed only into AWGate and worlds where world owners choose to enable
Tourist Access.

World owners can pay an additional $59.95 annually on their worlds if they
want to have Tourist Access enabled in their worlds.
-----------------------snip---------------------------

I like the idea of world owners being able to choose whether they want
tourists in their world or not. Overall, there's more hope in this versus
the current policy.

New Pricing...

It can be considered dedication, loyalty and a season of community to pay
the extra 60 bucks a year AND open your world to Non-AW ppl. How much you
want to bet, in time, some world owners will go the extra mile and make a
world just for the purpose of encouraging tourists to become citizens.

Alpha World, 1490 meters high at 0n 0e

Feb 7, 2002, 1:33am
In Alpha World at 1490 meters high at 0n 0e, I downloaded everything that is
at 0a. Does this mean that PK's, PS's, AW employees can see me at 0n 0e 0a
or know of my presence at this altitude? I teleported at a high altitude in
order to fly down so I could see whether tourist mode was enabled for this
world and see them talking at gz. Even if my presence isn't known at this
altitude, why am I downloading stuff from GZ way up there?

Sounds like gossip.

Trashman(woman), Garbageman(woman), take care of the wall001.rwx in the =
middle of nowhere when someone is trying to build, or the clutter of a =
few objects that have no hint of a structure or meaning, in the way of =
someone else's new build. I''ve done quite a bit of site seeing at the =
earlier NAC property and even though some are not completed, they =
always:

1. Show a hint of Alpha World history by the objects used, animation or =
not, etc. I enjoy seeing and learning about how building was in the =
earlier days by looking at this.

2. Give me great ideas on the next thing I'm going to build.

3. Give me a sense of the immediate community such as how big the size =
of the town was, how many were building there at the time (dates & times =
show this). From this, sometimes, it's easy to tell how they became =
acquainted with each other.

I usually come away from NAC builds with more questions than answers.

If they are thinking about deleting, they'd better write a letter to us. =
Until I see some kind of official documention saying they are going to =
delete (or going to allow someone else to delete), I'm not too worried =
about it happening.

[View Quote] COPY all the NAC objects to this 'dummy world'...=20

Put out a general call to all Citizens to wander around this 'dummy =
world' looking for anything that is worthy of keeping. (as there would =
only be non-Citizen 'builds' (and I use the word loosely) one wouldn't =
have to 'look' for objects among Citizen 'builds'. Everything would be =
up for consideration). To facilitate finding locations/objects that may =
be out in the wilderness run 'Mapper' and create a 'world map'. (It =
would also be an interesting view to see what kind of 'litter' has piled =
up in Alpha over the last 5+ years, wouldn't it?...)=20

Have an email address set up to receive coords of places worthy of =
saving. So there wouldn't be 400 emails for the same location use some =
marker (like a mailbox or sign) to indicate a location 'you'v' sent in. =
(as this is a throw-away world and there shouldn't be any building in =
it, the 'markers' should not be able to be removed by jerks or those =
who'd think it clever to go around doing so...)=20

After 3 months(?) select Citizens who would be willing to sit on a =
Committee (for free - AW... just ask use... You have any number of =
Citizens willing to offer their time gratis) to wade thru' the emails, =
removing dups. and making a list of those locations worthy of saving.=20

Once that's done create yet another Committee (or if the old Committee =
hasn't had enuf' yet... :-) ) to take the coords listed for saving and =
convert all selected objects in Alpha to 'Historical'. There could be a =
time limit placed of this conversion - 2, 3,10 months?. If there is =
enuf' interest in Alpha, by the Citizens, then the work would be done in =
no time at all. If the work doesn't get done in Alpha then there's not =
enuf' interest, by the Citizens.=20

Either way, after the time limit has expired, have a PARTY... Pick of =
date... Stand around your favourite 'eye sore' and watch it get deleted =
as AW purges the remaining NAC objects from the database. (then you =
obviously have the option of claiming the free land for yourself... (As =
a paying Citizen it's hoped (by me anyway) that it wouldn't be just more =
of the same... :-) ))=20

The benefits... If they (AW) wish to attract 'paying customers' they'r =
going to have to clean up the crap... I'v heard numerous comments, by =
people I'v showed Alpha to (when looking was free), about the junk =
laying around GZ (and areas further afield). Yes there are some builds =
worthy of saving BUT anyone with any pride in what they'v built in Alpha =
has to admit that the crap all over the world cheapens the World as a =
whole... (or maybe no one thinks this... I don't like living in a =
garbage dump... I guess there are those who do tho'... Takes all =
kinds...)=20

Another benefit would be this 'could' be a Community Project... It =
just might put some spirit (remember when you felt you belonged to =
something special... How long ago was that and where did it go...) back =
into Alpha.=20

The 'downside' of this action would be some 'non-Citizens' would have =
their 'creations' DELd... So!!!... Like where were they when Alpha =
needed them. Where was their $20. IF they had remained Citizens then =
'maybe' the rest of use wouldn't be looking at paying the higher price =
now... I say 'too bad, so sad'... DEL IT ALL...=20

There will likely be those who are concerned about what is considered =
'crap'... If you have an opinion, join the committee and voice your =
concern... Otherwise quit whining and let those willing to do the work =
get on with it...=20

Anyway... just my take on the NAC issue... I'v been a strong voice, =
over the years, for removing junk from Alpha (primarily around GZ, the =
landing place, thus the show location of the World (or it should be)). =
This would be a good time to seriously think about doing so... My idea =
is just off the top of my head. I'm sure there may be other Citizens =
with different/better ideas of how it could be implemented. Fine... as =
long as it's done...=20

PLUS, we haven't had a Communal Party for quite some time... :-)=20

What happens when AWcom decides to delete not a citizen and expired =
cit=20
accounts property in aw world. and all public worlds. I know of =
many=20
nice sites that would be lost forever. I know expired cits come =
back,=20
but they could come back to not having any property. Example, a =
guy in=20
the military fighting in the mid east, he comes home and learns =
AWcom=20
deleted his stuff cause he expired. Many situations from this. =
What is=20
everyones feeling on if AW decided to do this. How would it effect=20
you. towns could have scattered vacent lots. Roads could be =

Dreams could be lost. Lets hope this never happens, but the way =

go here we know anything can happen. Have great day everyone :)=20

good time to seriously think about doing so... My idea is just off the =
top of=20
my head. I'm sure there may be other Citizens with different/better =
ideas of=20
