I've observed this first hand, posting ability continues sometimes for days
after login ability ceases. However, the minute you create an account, you
can post. Weird.

Is there supposed to be a login page or anything?
Oh, THAT?
Man, I've been doing this too long, tried to login using "root" instead of
"nate" five damn times.
Still the most pathetic implementation of a password I've EVER seen, except
in Windows screensavers.

Just wondering what the funniest things ever done to a mall Santa are.
Just today, I went to the mall after school and went up to Santa (I'm 15),
took a seat and asked him for a copy of the naughty list. In particular the
naughty little girls part.
Anyone else care to share?

I use 56k with a nVidia Quadro 2 MXR (GeForce II MX with a few added
functions for a lot more money) 32mb and an Athlon XP system clocked at
2088MHz with 512mb of DDR RAM clocked at 333Mhz. Indeed one of the biggest,
baddest all-around machines ever to grace the face of the earth, and what do
I get in certain 3d homepages in OpenGL (The fastest method for this setup)?
15FPS. I rest my case. If this doesn't improve to at LEAST 30 when I pop a
R8500 in here, AW will officially become a lost cause.

Okay: Everything that will cause this:
Peeling plastic from drive parts, wipe plastic dust off, remove jaggies,
insert drive cleaner to clear lens
[Check for that first]
Bad drive
[Do this second, you should always have a second on hand anyway]
Bad Windows
[Do this anyway, it's good system maintinence]

WinXP? Win2k?
You've got some serious PEBKAC issues and quite honestly, you should be
using Win98SE, or for someone of your apparent intelligence, WinME.
This file most possibly indicates your computer's current logon state,
though judging by the filename it's likely for some other purpose. [I'm no
WinNT expert, I avoid that kernel like the plauge, security patching for
obvious duh's on dialup isn't my idea of fun]

I've been messing with computers since I was 6, I've used every major CPU
out there, excluding that lame Via POS and the Pentium 4, every release of
Windows excluding XP final [I did, however participate in the beta program]
and I'm only 15.
It seems to me that if you've been messing around that the Windows directory
would be a second home to you. More likely that you've just been using.
Also, you'd have the sense to keep spares of various easy-to-fail components
around (modems, drives, video) that are suitable temporaries, though not
necessarily of the same caliber.
Try this: Boot up in DOS. Delete the offending files there.
Win98 has no "admin" that I'm aware of and these are probably used by some
sort of TSR, possibly a virus or worm operating on your machine.

Biggest mistake you can ever make with Linux security is the root password.
It should be somthing really screwed up like
K436shgfSg45763EeG
Add some special characters if your system supports it
The average root password is somthing like "god" "love" "sex" in the case of
lonely sysops and for most everyone else a word like your girlfriend's name,
sports team, somthing personal. The biggest downfall of any Linux box is
social engineering. Any information that can be stolen, obtained, beaten out
of one of your friends or researched including credit card numbers and such
should be avoided as well as ANY word or combination of words found in the
dictionary.

One little thing to add here, "cd .." is the proper down level command,
"cd.." works under DOS but it's my understanding that it won't on any Linux
console.

The transparency problem you're obsessing over is almost moot, the only world that I've seen that will truly suffer from the
transparency problem its good 'ol AWTeen, center of most of AW's idiot user base (The others all have dedicated, good modelers that
can work around it) and even then, only their vegetation.
Also, get a new PC. An AMD and a Geforce are going to get those performance levels regardless. And AMD K6-2 550 and a GeForce 256
anyway. A Duron 700 and a GeForce II MX pulls 20FPS in a DENSE zone (120m out, complex lighting situations, large high poly COB
objects, refreshing textures)
A full scale Athlon and GeForce II GTS or GeForce 3 hits 30-40 EASY in the same situation.
Also, why in the hell are you using the beta and not posting to beta??? You're not even supposed to have it are you *grins at idiot*

Go back before the conversion from the aw.community newsgroup and introduction of the original charter (You can't for this group
unfortunately, the posts in the old aw.community group are gone forever it seems) and things were QUITE pleasant. Unfortunately it
was that group's last few months that brought us into this, it was virtually a solid wall of flame for awhile.
Go back to the BEGINNING in worldbuilders and you'll get the general idea.

If any of you on the beta list has a copy of Linux installed in a dual boot config, I'm interested in having you try somthing.
I'd like to find out if AW works AT ALL under Linux. I suspect that as 2.2 functions under WINE, 3.2 will do so as well, at least in
OGL mode. Email me if you're interested in trying it out.

Hmmm... I like the Object Yard... Altho' Yards like Lara's have a place, (I'v used Lara's numerous times) and for new builders they
may be the way to go, I tend to get lost while wandering around (not to mention I lose track of why I was even there etc. :-) )
Yards that have everything all together allows one to zero in on what one wants AND offers ideas aswell due to everything being 'in
your face' so to speak....
I'v added a link to your yard from the entrance of mine. If you have a spare moment check it out at:
http://objects.activeworlds.com/cgi-bin/teleport.cgi?aw_21.8S_457E_270
(notice the ever-so-clever 'Shameless Plug' :-) ) (WARNING - VERY DENSE)
Different layout but has the same idea. Everything packed together so one doesn't have to tport all over the place...
Well done (I'v added your yard to my 'remember' list...)

It is geared for more experienced builders, and is tightly compacted to make

Please feel free to telegram me if you think of anything that would be a

"Good evening, this is your captain speaking. Just gotta take care of a few
things here at the top of the flight. First, this is Activeworlds Airlines
flight 375 from Corperate America to The Real World. If you're not going

Secondly, please take note that there are no exits on this plane. You will
be removed by men with welding torches once we land.
Third, I hafta talk about in-flight emergencies. In case of loss of
pressurization, a bong will drop from the ceiling. In case of a water
landing, the AW Community at large may be used as a flotation device and may
be counted upon to deliver you to dry land and get you back on your feet.
Finally, we will be departing as soon as I can weave this bird between all

Builderrrrrrrrz, you hafta remember, only some of us have the appropriate
resources and skills to operate a full scale security testing situation such
as what you described. I FIRMLY believe that 90% of the time, all virii
infections are caused by overhyped software, such as Win2k and this
WORTHLESS stock quote bot. ZA/ZAP is also overhyped, which is a decent
deterrent to the damaging overhyped software and the shortcoming of other
overhyped software (OS's)
The same goes for virus detection software. If you're careful, you don't
need it.

A script kiddie is a wannabe hacker that think that they're a real hacker.
Examples of scriptes include executables in that context. And a kiddie
denotes that they're a wannabe. By definition, a script kiddie is one who
uses any targetside script or DDoS attack to do harm to a targetted system.
A cracker is similar, except all scripts are done infiltration side, and a
hacker is similar to that, though they often know everything that is to be
known about computers and how they function, and rarely have malicious
intents about breaking into systems.

Yes, some sick bastard somewhere in this world orchestrated this attacks and
he deserves to fucking die in the most painful way we can muster. A little
irony would be nice too. A US bomber pilot, his plane critically damaged
orders the rest of his flight crew to eject, and pokes himself right through
that fucker's office. They find his skeleton days later pinned beneath the
nosecone of an American B-1B. The last radio contact with the aircraft was
the pilot screaming "FOR FREEEEEEEEEDOMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!"

I'm going to assume for a moment that Osama Bin Laden is the culprit here,
which he likely is. He has MANY terrorist actions against the US to his
credit.
3 US Embassies
1 USN Destroyer
1 Failed attack on WTC NY
3-4 destroyed buildings in WTC NY, including both towers
1 attempted attack on the White House which ended up hitting the Pentagon
instead
1 attempted attack on Camp David that ended up in a Pennsylvania field
At LEAST 10,000 people over a decade murdered
If this is not a situation that warrents the full military intervention of
the entire world to stop attacks on innocents, American or not, I don't know
what is. Sure, he's only one man with one organization. Who cares if he
keeps killing Americans, it's an American problem. But what's to stop others
from following his example and putting planes, car bombs, god knows what
else into London, Paris, Moscow, Berlin, Bejing, Tokyo, maybe even your
home town. If the United States were the only nation subject to terrorism,
the US would no doubt act alone in retaliation, but SOMEONE needs to show
the sick fucks of the world that they can't do whatever the hell they please
to anyone they want.
If he had killed soldiers that were actively threatening him, it would be
another issue entirely. But, offensive action against civilians is forbidden
by the Geneva convention, and is a war crime. NOBODY that kills innocents
should be allowed to live, and though he played no direct hand in the murder
and sat in his office in Afghan watching it unfold on TV, he is still at
fault.
It's not an American issue, it's a world issue. You can't EVER expect peace
with this kind of ASS killing hundreds in seconds and thousands in hours.

*beats everyone that's replied to these threads senseless*
Comon people, lets not fight among each other, it's just not appropriate.
Bodhi, though he's commited a sin in these groups is not where your angers
should be directed. Who gives a shit whether some news coverage was faked,
somewhere in the world, someone IS celebrating, whether Palestinian or not
is a moot point.
Get yourselves laid or somthing over the weekend, it's been a hard week for
everyone and everyone's tense and ready to beat up on anyone. For anything,
even people for just being of Arab descent or practicing the muslim
religion. These people are simply miniaturized versions of the terrorists we
are about to wage an all-out war on. Don't lose focus of the real enemy.
Sorry if I've gotten the actual thread's content all wrong, I don't even
have the patience to read it all anymore.
[I don't care if you're American or not, so don't gimmie that shit, this
isn't an American issue, it's a worldwide issue]

Errrrrrrrrrr, Chrisssss. I never said they were. I said that those that
THINK they are are simply small-time terrorists.
My wording was exceptionally shitty, but we all make mistakes.
