Yeah, this is another problem but damned if I know what it is. Sometimes when I'm looking straight down, there are very few polygons
in my field of view (hidden or otherwise) and I'm clocking like 90fps but there is extreme lag in writing into an action field.
Anybody know what's going on?

Screw on-topic posts. Mudpie *et al* gunna bury AW anyway.
Yeah, I love to rant too.
The *multiverse* has time and space as part of it's solution -- so there's no "something from nothing" problem which is often used
to justify God. What is the multiverse? I will explain: the universe is a solution of the extremization of a Lagrangian (ya don't
hafta know what that means) and there are MANY such solutions; the multiverse is the class of all such solutions. Each time
elementary particles interact there are numerous outcomes to which we can only assign a probability (the Heisenburg Uncertainty
Principle). So there are gazillion universes branching off whenever and wherever interactions occur.
So the next problem: how do we "know" which universe to "follow"? Well, we follow them ALL. Consciousness is time-linear so we can
only perceive one path at a "time". The problem is the same as the problem "why am I me and not you" or the damn cockroach I just
squashed. And the answer is the same: I AM you and the cockroach that I'm scraping off my shoe. I get to be everybody and to follow
every path. So do you -- after all you ARE me. But when you get to be that cockroach you have no idea that you once were 3580 --
hell cockroaches can't even count. And "when" and "were" don't have any meaning either.
Another solution to the problem is that I am the only conscious creature in the universe. We call peeps who believe this
*sociopaths* -- they used to be called *criminal psychopaths*. Times change.
Another rant concerns the extremely naive assumption beloved by scifi fans that the multiverse is teaming with intelligent life.
After all if it only happened once in one universe we'd still be here talking about it. But I'll save that rant for another time.

I miss it too SW. It's a damn shame that some twits couldn't figure out that if they aren't on the beta they shouldn't bug Roland.
They spoiled it for all of us. I had 3.1 for 2 days and found several bugs including the now famous MIDI bump (seems to be a botched
attempt to delay the transition between MIDIs) and 3.1's inability to handle texture names larger than 16 characters (which whited
out a lot of my textures). And some others that I worn't boar ppl with. I was sure that these bugs will be/have been discovered by
the real beta group and since I wasn't supposed to have 3.1 I didn't mention them to Roland.
I was just beginning to work out techniques for combining standard animation methods with the new move and rotate commands when I
lost the connection to the server. When I tried to re-enter I got the infamous "reason 79" message and knew what had happened. I was
really pissed at the idiots who spoiled my fun. You can still use 3.1 off-line but that sucks.

WRONG. You see anything in my message about beta TESTing? I was just having fun. The beta should have been made available to all
with disclamers and strict instructions not to bug Roland and to upgrade a COPY of 3.0 (which I did). I noticed in the chat that
some beta testers were giving 3.1 upgrade instructions to everyone who asked for them (not me -- I figured it out myself).

Well good for you, wing. I'm a big fan of eep. And just to show I'm not one of those insecure peeps who resort to correcting
spelling errors, I won't mention the incorrect spelling of "warrantees". I DID take an INFORMED calculated risk to have some fun.
The beta had been out for several days and some of the inexperienced users that were allowed to beta test would likely have caught
such expensive anomalies. Also, only a complete nitwit would leave a beta alone for 20 minutes. There -- I've made a good point for
including inexperienced users and nitwits in the beta test. BTW -- the upgrade proggy takes any URL you give it for an upgrade path
if you use a DOS prompt or "run" so the beta could have been made REALLY closed.

I'm with you Irish. Right now i'm 100% honest except for one proggy which is *ridiculously* overpriced. NO NAMES! They could make a
good profit selling it for, say, $200 -- especially since a lotta people (including me) would buy it at that price instead of using

Oops -- I just remember I got a cracked XXX6 'cause I paid for XXX5 and the snots wouldn't upgrade me since I missed the deadline by

These move and rotate commands leave a lot to be desired. They sure haven't made old fashioned animation controls obsolete. I won't
go thru the details but I think you need 3 objects -- only 1 of which is visible at a time. One object at the beginning pointed out,
another at the end pointed out, and another at the end pointed in. Then you use 3 control objects to move the first, rotate the
second and move the third. If someone has a simpler way please let me know.
I haven't had much time lately, but if I get a chance I'll set up an example in Polygon.

I couldn't agree more nova! Even invisible objects add to the poly count and degrade performance. But i'm damn sure you can't do
stuff like that without old fashioned astart;adone controls making things visible and invisible. I set up a simple example in
Polygon if you want to see it. The effect is 3 sailboats sailing in a triangular pattern; as each boat reaches the vertex of the
triangle it rotates and sails on. Looks pretty neat and is located at polygon 7.7S 5.9W 0.0a 89. At that position there's not much
of a poly count but if you turn around you may experience serious lag. Just wait for a good load.
The controls are the 2 fireplugs. There are 6 sailboats: the 3 at the verticies are all labeled sb0 and the others that will move
are labeled sb1,sb2,sb3. The controls read:
create name sbc1,animate me . 1 1 5000,astart;adone move 0 0 10 time=10 name=sb1,move 8.66 0 -5 time=10 name=sb2,move -8.66 0 -5
time=10 name=sb3,visible sb0 no,visible sb1 on,visible sb2 on,visible sb3 on,astart sbc2
create name sbc2,animate me . 1 1 10000,astart;adone rotate 4 nosync name=sb0,visible sb0 on,visible sb1 no,visible sb2 no,visible
sb3 no,astart sbc1
The effect you're talking about would take 4 controls and 4 objects.

I think all ftp clients support resuming if the upstream server does. I like GetRight: www.getright.com which can be legit for $25.
The free version is ad driven. RealPlayer has one which seems to d/l automatically at certain ZDnet sites and takes over as the ftp
client (my getright went poof -- I had to uninstall the RP ftp client and put getright back in the startup folder). RP wouldn't be
so bad if it werent for the obnoxious ads which pop up and can crash you if your resources are marginal. Anything AOL gets its hands
on turns crappy -- now the realplayer on my old computer crashes it every time I try to play a streaming media.

Well wing, she's 27 and an Capoeira Angola expert (that's an African martial art and/or dance). She's planning a trip to Brazil to
attend the International Capoeira Angola Conference and a trip to Seattle to represent Louisiana in the National Poetry Slams. I
think if I dumped AOL I'd be another domestic violence stat.
MSN Messenger Service works fine. The ads are relegated to the hotmail which you can just not open up and a little partition at the
bottom of the window.
BTW I just noticed yet another ftp client -- NetAnts, www.netants.com Don't know anything about it except it's supposed to have
all th bells and whistles -- multithreading, resume, clip-board aware, etc that GetRight has. And it's free, but I don't know how
obnoxious its ads are.
