Wish for Building Backup Devices.

Nov 15, 1999, 6:38pm
How about in the next version of AW, add an option to place four placemarks
around a building, and on the placement of the fourth will generate a file
to download. This file would be a copy of the property converted to a file.
Then, If your building is ever destroyed, you have a backup to replace it.
Have the AW browser load the file up, you enter your password, and privilege
password and the placemarks appear, and you just move it around like an
object until you find a free area of your choice. And then poof, it's back..
This would be great for people who are tired of their current nehiborhood
and want to move somewhere else.
think the passwords are necessary, because without it, anyone could copy
our precious work and copy it all over AW...
Let's say a good friend wants a copy of your mansion, so he can have one of
his own.
Before you make a copy, you change your Privilege Password to His Name. Save
it, and change the password back to the original. When he gets the file, you
give him the Privilege Password (His Name) to use it.
That would work for preservation societies also..But not anyone else.
Unless You make a copy and release it to everyone with the privilege
password in a text file, zipped up with the file..

Well?
Does that sound like a plausible idea?

ActiveWorlds IRC. Does it exist?

Mar 1, 2001, 8:37pm
I was wandering around in IRC and wondered if there is a channel for
ActiveWorld users to chit-chat, shoot the bull, about life in AW..

Just wondering????

ActiveWorlds IRC. Does it exist?

Wow, thats the fastest set of replys of a question i've seen.... wow..

And a small arguement also...

My problem with chatting in AW is that I have to be close enough to the
chatters to listen....
When I'm building somewhere remote, there is no one around to listen to, and
respond.....

There's never enough people in one area to have a nice long conversation...

The only conversations I've seen were at ground zero, supply yards, or at
special events. (Cy Awards etc...)

Maybe if AW allowed us the option to lower or remove the distance
limitations to "Listen" it would be different.

> sorry... I don't post on the newsgroups often but I found this subject
> delightfully stupid :)

Why do we have to limit ourselves by using AW alone?

We have these newsgroups to post messages about AW, why can't we do the same
thing on IRC?

Just Wondering...... James Wyatt...

ActiveWorlds IRC. Does it exist?

I have found the cure to all this bickering about Distenceless chat in
AW.....

Get on AW, and In the browser, enter the following:
http://members.nbci.com/jameswyatt/AW/AW-IRC/AW-IRC.html

There is a javascript IRC applet, where you can access FOUR AW related
Chatrooms. (ActiveWorlds, AWGate, AWBingo, & AWBuilder)

Now, wherever in ActiveWorlds you are, you can keep in contact with other
Users..

Seems simple to me.........

ActiveWorlds IRC. Does it exist?

Ok Tony, Just for you, and other non IE users, and others.. I've added Info
for people who want to use mIRC, and other IRC "client" software.
Server list, and Room list..

I know in mIRC, you can display a chatroom outside of the mIRC program, so
you should be able to access AW, and have the irc room below the AW
browser...

Streaming Media Display Question.

May 14, 2001, 5:15pm
I have a question....

Is there a way to display streaming media on an object in AW?

I've built a virtual Radio & Television Station in AW with links to many
Audio/Video sources for users to enjoy.
But that's only links. I want to build a Working Theatre where I can select
a specific video media for users to enjoy.

I've also built a

bank, where you can create a free savings account, and you can also create a
paypal account.
church, where you can have a Virtual Wedding in.
and even a working Video Game Arcade, where you can really play dozens of
Classic Arcade Games online.

AW 15000s
30000w (pass it on.)

Any suggestions to what I should build next, would be appreciated.
